Hello TL,

I'm a platinum random player. I started out from bronze 3 months ago and now I'm already giving hard time to some low diamond players, except I keep losing to platinum cheese occasionally.

All my friends say that watching Day9 has really helped them. I've only watched the Episode #208 with djWHEAT, where Day9 was coaching a platinum zerg. I found that really helpful ^^

However, I'm curious to see what episodes you guys would recommend the most. I don't really feel like watching all the dailies to catch up, because it's 1 hour per episode after all.

So, I would like to get a brief list of dailies which you think are the most helpful for any player aspiring to get from platinum to diamond.

Thanks

PS. I couldn't find anything related when using the search-function

All of them.

Seriously though, check out The Mental Checklist. It helped me a lot when I was just starting to get into the game. =)

the episode title on his blip tv catalogue usually says if hes looking at something specific, eg. Low lvl replays, noobie tuesday. Definitely check out his low level replays dailies as a start.

I would just watch them all! They have all helped me in some way, and if you look for Newbie Tuesday, there are only like 8 or 10 on blip.tv

You should start with these two dailies:
Day[9] Daily #184 - Newbie Tuesday #1 - http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/4152891/
Day[9] Daily #194 - Newbie Tuesday: Drone Timing - http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/4210235/

#184 is basic Protoss and terran economy, while #194 is for zerg. After those, I'd watch rest of the newbie tuesdays and then start to randomly browse them. There is alots of good stuff in there, but I think those 2 dailies are the most important.

Even if you are high platinum, it's better to start with the obvious and work upwards from there.

Newbie Tuesday vods, all of those (less than 5 I think)

#173, the first one, is particularly useful.

I'm pretty much in the same spot as you - I'm a random Plat player who picked this game up about release and started in bronze (just played customs and diablo2). I think my biggest problem for not being in Diamond is, besides not picking a race, not taking a third and knowing how to end-game. Perhaps this is something you have trouble with to?

I don't know if any dailies deal particularly with that, maybe the recent Sen/Softball vs iNControl Daily (i think its the most recent non-funday one, like #213) but that's about making power units, not about taking the 4th and 5th.

Watch #121 too, it's labled "Plugging holes in silver level play", but it is from the beta which kinda translates to gold / low plat play these days.

EDIT: For learning how to pratice, I found #130 to be great too.

I recommend just watching the episodes with players that you like. Or match-ups that you really need help in.

Also watching videos doesnt help too much much, you still just need to play the game for yourself and get used to the mechanics.

In my opinion #218 (Tyler vs OptikZero) was the most useful recent one. It really drives home the importance of expanding at good times instead of just repeating that it's good. In my opinion it's the best in recent times. As others have said, some of the newbie tuesday ones are good. Even though they're generally aimed at below your level, they contain some gems everyone can learn from. Also daily #191 (about adjusting your play based on map) is a useful exercise in figuring out how map should affect your play, which I think would be good for your skill level. Check them out!! I hope they help.

this one is a tad older, but watch the daily called "back to basics"... seriously. hmm... just noticed it's already posted under "mental checklist" by moonloop, but that one really needs to be featured. I doubt not a single bronze would be in bronze anymore if everyone watched that (and yes, i'm aware of the impossibility)

I'm also a big fan of the mental checklist episode.

The mental checklist is still the #1 thing I focus on when trying to improve.

Though it doesn't really help your game, you should really check out #100 for its inspirational value.

I agree that episode #100 should be a starting point. Attitude is half the battle.

After that I would actually browse for the Newbie Tuesday specials because they are the most helpful.

Yea, Funday Mondays are very entertaining but far from what I'm gonna recommend as a must-see.

Obviously most of the Brood War VODs would be 'situational' in understanding RTS concepts on a whole but browse for specific SC2 ones that seem interesting to you, generally racial specific ones help most new players.

I actually used to follow his casts in Brood War so it became more of a habit for me when I have time but really a lot of what he is saying should come naturally to you if you are very observant and do some mass gaming yourself.

Actually I think the first game in the most recent Funday Monday is probably the crispest example of an extremely well executed game plan. A lot of people here are pointing you to the Newbie Tuesday's and they are very beneficial - and certainly the Mental Checklist episode is easily at the top of any day9 list. But that first game in episode 223 really opened my eyes about how to play "correctly".

I liked the latest 222 Incontroll vs Sen daily. I was having lots of trouble with exactly what that daily was about, and now I'm armed with new experience of how to beat it, or atleast not get completely slaughtered.

Mental checklist no doubt.
And the one who teaches micro, but it might be the same episode as mental checklist?

I think it would be helpful if the OP was to mention the main race he plays. I remember for example that day9 did 3 dailies on BratOK's TvT, TvZ and TvP. At the time, I personally liked those a lot and it helped new T players just to get a general idea of a build if they didn't have any yet.

Many people here have already mentioned very good dailies and you should check them out, and I would add to the list #217 Funday Monday: Expo Hungry. I think this is the one where they are to expand every 4-5 mins. Although it's a funday monday and is aimed to be fun, i really enjoyed the first game where a noobish toss player played on Lost temple. You could see that he wasn't too good but played an excellent game by doing this funday monday mission and his macro was off the chart. Furthermore, #223 was to attack every 5 mins and there was a PvT on Xel'Naga caverns where the guy happens to attack every 5 mins and expand every 5 mins too and his gameplay was excellent I thought.
My favorites: Terran - Maru // Protoss - SoS // Zerg - soO ~~~ fighting!

Best thing ever to watch for any aspiring Zerg's out there. This is really the entire core of Zerg play, and I didn't give it nearly enough thought until I watched this.
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

episode 100 is highly recommended, but keep in mind that you won't learn anything about playing starcraft. it's also two hours long...

should still watch it if you're a day9 fan though
