Foxer = Fake Boxer, and rhymes with Boxer (unlike Fauxer, see above and understand French kthx). I live in America and haven't heard anyone pronounce "Faux" like "Fawx"... people generally know how to say it. Or just don't use the term at all. Anyways, I'm interested in finding out how often a name change will be available (once this becomes a routine thing). I think it'd be cool if we could get a name change every ladder reset!

Paying to change your name in a video game is ludicrous! And even then you're limited to 12 characters, regionally based, no unicode. This isn't even okay in an MMO, changing a name is a simple update command to a database, it is not something we should be happily paying for! Watching this most-ridiculous form of micro-transactions ooze from game to game sickens me. Don't encourage this unless you want to see it become the standard some years down the road. Changing names, servers, etc. should be free. -- It is free -- Provided that irresponsible system developers are not in control.

What the fuck? He said it's "realistic", as in it's likely to be priced at that point, not that he thinks it's an awesome idea. Maybe you hurt on the inside because your internal organs are in shock from jumping to conclusions? Fact: Blizzard said they will charge for name changes Fact: Blizzard charges $10 for name changes in WoW Realistic assumption: SC2 name changes will also cost $10 Ranting about whether they should charge money at all is off topic.

We have implemented a Name Change feature for Starcraft II. Each account will be eligible for one free name change per Starcraft II License. In addition, beyond this initial free name change, we'll be launching a service similar to the one we offer for World of Warcraft which will allow additional character name changes for a fee. We'll announce more details on how the free name change and additional paid character name changes will be implemented in the near future. To process a Name Change, you must log into your Battle.net Account via Battle.net Account Management ( http://us.battle.net/en/ ). Continue to "Manage Games" and select your Starcraft II game copy with the character you wish to rename. From here, you should see the Name Change option. If your account has a Free Name Change available, it will state that it is free.

Watching this most-ridiculous form of micro-transactions ooze from game to game sickens me. Don't encourage this unless you want to see it become the standard some years down the road. Changing names, servers, etc. should be free. -- It is free -- Provided that irresponsible system developers are not in control. I think you got no idea how much abuse free name changing would give. Lets say you are a maphacker (yes it exists in sc2) and the moment ppl start to post your names on sites you change your name. Rise and repeat. Name changing is an easy way out to start anew, why would you change your name so much anyway?

If the system was designed with a universal account ID, rather than using names/identifiers for players this would not be a problem. Their system is naively designed, which through it's flaws conveniently allows them justification for charging money to change names. Steam doesn't have a problem with recognizing and tracking cheaters who change names because it uses such an ID system. It's not rocket science, just good design. Don't be wrapped up by such a thin smoke screen, look a little bit deeper before nodding your head in acceptance of a $10 fee.

The reason such things are not free is that they would be abused to eternity. Imagine in WoW for example, what would prevent you from scamming others if you simply could move to another server with no bad reputation for free? Sure, technically it might not cost Blizzard anything, but if it would be free it could ruin the game.
