UPDATE 3: - GosuGamers.net News - fragster.de news
UPDATE 2: As seen in later comments to this thread, it is unconfirmed whether or not SuNNy actually said that maka/cool/tester were confirmed or just interested in joining MYM. After a search through CellaWeRRa's VODs on his livestream account found no VOD of today's incident, it cannot be proved either way.
Until new information comes to light on this matter, the situation is as follows: - SuNNy spoke to Cella on his stream about playing for MYM, and salary of some form was discussed (roughly in the area of 500-650 euro) - Several credible sources (affentod via twitter, fragster.de, etc.) posted news regarding the salary, etc. - SuNNy was promptly let go from MYM - A statement which was briefly translated below by Mahrgell (fragster.de news) left more questions than answers as to whether or not SuNNy was supposed to contact Cella or not, etc.
If you have any further information, please share it here so this can be cleared up.
UPDATE: Mahrgell did a brief translation of this news post which depicts SuNNy acting on false pretenses and has henceforth been kicked from MYM. Explanation is in the spoiler: fragster + Show Spoiler +MYM surprised by the news they don't want to have anything to do with Sunnys actions Sunny kicked They never considered signing mentioned players They only wanted to know market values of players to offer contract in special cases (kinda contradicts last statement) They never talked about the pulic made salaries/details they can con believe and can not understand this 'epic fail'
------------------------------------------ Well, as some of you may or may not know, CellaWeRRa was streaming when MYM SC2 manager, Sunny, asked for Cella to join MYM for a new Korean Squad.
They discussed Salaries, etc, and even potential teammates in the form of Cool, Tester and Maka.
Anavrin posted the info on REDDIT: + Show Spoiler +MyM.Sunny offered Cella a spot on a Korean division of MyM they're trying to make while Cella was streaming live 15 minutes ago.
MyM is sponsored by Razer. Cella is a top Korean zerg player who just qualified for the GSL.
Cella asked for cash, and demanded $650, and Sunny basically said yes before Cella took his stream offline.
The biggest incentive Sunny tried to use was that Cool, Tester, and Maka were interested in joining up (sounded like all three already agreed).
If this deal works out, it would mean that many of Korea's top players will be paid by a foreign team sponsored by a foreign company. More importantly, it may mean that the skill wall between foreigners and Koreans will erode with the switch from Brood War to WoL.
Maka had this to say when asked about joining MYM: + Show Spoiler +

"Asked for cash and demanded $650" Lol....

i was watching when this happened. They did talk about it but there was no "demanding" or anything. just some negotiations. Cella mentioned $650. that was it.

Awesome.
I wish Artosis got paid that much so he would whine less about terran

This. What a bribe. Why not grab IdrA? Cella is much better then MYM whether they agree or not. WeRRa not MYM =_=
I would have said 1,000,000$ if I was as good as Cella.

I never said he was. I just said what I would have said because obviously he'll stay on WeRRa. So why not make it hard for the MYM guy?
MYM has like no zerg players so why don't they get IdrA and stop trying to jump players. It's silly.

cella for TLAF!

again. I was watching when this happened. First MYM brought up that he would be paid a salary. Then Cella mentioned a figure after asked about what he needed.
There was no "demanding" or "bribes" or whatever else you guys try to sensationalize it into being.

Interesting. Pretty bold of MYM to contact him directly on BNET, while streaming. It's also odd since I don't have much exposure to culture outside the USA that he 'demanded' $650 which seems so trivial to me. Yesterday on the ESL stream Take and Demuslim said in Ukraine the average monthly salary is like 250 euros so for winning their tournament he'd basically earn 2 months average salary o.0

Actually, it is the same MYM that had Lucifron and Grubby (Technically Grubby was in both MYM's, the good and the bad).
And on another note:
It isn't so much that the manager was stupid enough to speak to him while he was streaming (I mean, it could be a mistake on anyone's part) it is the portion where he reportedly said they spoke to Cool/Tester/Maka.
And just after speaking with Maka, he said he never heard from them...
|
MYM seem fairly clueless.
First, they announce their SC2 squad, consisting of:
Raven - Who had done nothing in SC2 to that point and still hasn't. Not even sure if he's still playing the game.
Garimto - A retired pro-gamer who peaked years ago and seems more interested in broadcasting SC2 than playing it competitively.
Artosis - Another broadcaster first/player second who isn't likely to be winning tournaments anytime soon.
Demuslim - Their one dedicated, top level player, but...
Demuslim gets an offer from mTw to move to Germany and compete in EPS, so MYM recruit Naniwa and Cloud (neither as good as Demuslim, no offence) and sends them to Germany instead.
Now they've set their eye on Cella, who is famous because of his stream and, like most of their other players, has no tournament results to speak of. So they decide to start negotiating with (and by "negotiating with" I mean throwing money at) him in full view of thousands of stream watchers.

Can someone just explain this to me? The 650$... Is that a one time thing?!? Or every month? Week? Time he wins? Is awesome?

Salary afaik.
|
$650 a month for a 1 year contract.
|
650 dollars is a fair amount of money in a lot of countries, maybe it is the case with korea. add it to the fact that you will be paid to play SC2 from your house, so, it is nice.
|
when i saw this live i already rofl'd hard, but its getting even better ... the fact that theres a mixture of hiding and lying involved too adds another bit of fun :O

these kids need to find someone who not entirely naive and represents them well. im sorry but asking a monthly 650$ by default thats just sad, im affraid someone will bleed them out badly at the end.

Remember MYM went bankrupt a year ago. They can't afford the best players anymore. Hence NaNiwa and ClouD are probably cheap since they're talents: not big names.

Well, it is a completely new team.
For those who don't know, MYM went bankrupt, they liquidated everything, and owed players a lot of money, even staff members. It sucks, but it happens.
So, the title of MYM was for sale by whoever still owned the rights, and they sold it to a mediocre team by the name of Wicked E-Sports (at the time, they had CS, Wc3, etc.) and then they 'rebuilt' MYM to what it is today.
It does not have any of the original management or owners. Wicked is operating under MYM essentially, some minor staff members came back to work there, and a few players as well.
I hope that clears some stuff up for you : )

First of all.. cella didn't demand anything. Get your facts straight before you make a post about someone as nice as him.
The MyM guy was trying to make him sign a contract for 500Euro a month for 1 year at 30 hours of game time a week.
Cella demanded nothing. That was MYM's offer. Cella has a team already. He has no reason to leave his team and join another free team.
I really am not sure why you make this post without clearing any facts first. Cella is not famous just because of his stream either. He has been casted before on HD and other known casters in the community. He is also a very friendly, outgoing and talented player. Sure he has no results to speak of yet, but he's playing hard and did qualify for the RO 64 GSL. Whether or not that means anything or not, he still did.
He also plays very high caliber players on his stream. just today he's been playing with HopeTorture (IntoTheRainBow/RainBow) for about 10 hours.
MYM Sunny seemed to be pretty nice too. If they are looking to start an esports team in korea thats nice for them as well, but please wait for them to make their own post on it. It's going to give people the wrong idea of them and cella as well.

1. I did not claim that REDDIT info to be mine, or say it myself. 2. My commentary was on the cool/tester/maka portion, and I did clear that up. 3. I said for the community to discuss, as in, if anyone can confirm or add details, please do so. 4. I never made comments about Cella or his level of fame or his stream.

From what I saw on the stream nothing was settled on $650, Cella asked how much the salary would be, and then said that he knew "violet" who was paid $650 as an example. Didn't seem like 650 would be a problem though from sunny's response.
From what we got to see, Cella would get mouses/keyboards and teamclothes, travel money to tournaments and a salary. Towards the end of the discussion Cella asked "so how much can you pay me?" and sunny said something along the lines of "man" "you are streaming this? take it off stream".
The whole thing was abit unusual, partly due to broken english. Sunny opened the discussion asking if Cella would be interested in joining a korea division of MYM. He said that he had already talked to maka and would look to form a team with maka, cella, tester and cool.
Cella said -didn't maka refuse?. I don't remember exactly what was said but Sunny said something like "oh? well we can make a team with You, tester and cool".
Hopefully Cella gets a fair deal whatever he decides to do (wait for more offers or take this). Seems like a great guy. He's not THAT good however, so maybe this deal is something he should accept. Waiting isn't always best.
~So what? HOLY CHECK!
Edit: I recited this from memory alone. I could've got some details wrong but this was how I remembered it. I dont' know where the guy above got the info that Sunny said 500 euro/month for 30 hours game time/week would be the offer. I don't remember seeing it on stream atleast.

The fact that Cella is getting interested parties is pretty awesome though!

To be honest, I don't think results and big tourney wins are as important as they were in sc1 anymore. At least when it comes to signing a player.
Cella is a very popular guy all around the world. People know him, people like him, people watch his stream. Now why wouldn't a business oriented team be interested in adding their clantag in front of his name? Maybe I'm not that into the scene but I have never known anything about let's say Ensnare nor do I really care about him. Even if he was twice as good as Cella I cant connect with him in any way. For a european team it makes no sense to acquire a top korean player for big money if nobody over here knows or cares about him.
=> Cella is one of the prime targets for a foreign team even if he's not the best in the world

lol, why wouldn't an organization want to win? If they sign an amateur or semi-pro player, but fail to win multiple times, it becomes a waste of money. If you look at different organizations, they always try to sign the best players in the talent pool.
I like Cella, but to say he is "very popular" is kinda far fetched because he still unknown compared to players like Tester, ITR, etc who have entered tournaments before.
For a european team it makes no sense to acquire a top korean player for big money if nobody over here knows or cares about him.
The same can be said about Moon, Lyn, and other Asian WC3 players. An example would be Moon, who is one of the best WC3 players ever, but he can't speak English too well. Yet, he has a ton of non-Korean fans because of how great of a player he is. This can be said about Cella except people like him for his skills and personality.
As for all this drama, I wasn't around to see it on his stream, but it really isn't Sunny's fault. The chances of him knowing Cella is streaming is there. Then again, he should have known that Cella likes to stream whenever he plays. As for the whole "$650" thing, it's not too far fetched because European organizations can pay a very high amount of money for their players.

I don't see why Sunny got kicked. So dumb, he misinterpreted his instructions and it's smart reaching out to cella cause he is really popular so he would be a great player to sign on market value alone.

I am gonna have to say that lying through your teeth and making offers that are either untrue or at the very least above your authority to offer, as well as implying that you have signed players that you clearly have not is not something that MYM and their sponsors wanted. Add to the fact that a couple of thousand people saw it live on stream adds to the embarrassment. Add on the slightly bad history MYM has with such things and it's clear this was an epic PR failure.
In short, Sunny f'ed up. bad.

Telling Cella that Cool and Tester have agreed to join.. when that wasnt true. Dishonest, Very deserves a kick.
Its like if I went up to Morrow and said "Join my team, ill pay you $20,000 a year, and btw we have Whitera, Idra and DIMAGA all agreed to join also".. lol

I never said they don't want to win. They want the best exposure be it through winning big tournaments or other means. But people here think Cella shouldn't be signed because he hasnt won a big tournament? Thats a Joke. As long as he's popular and appears in well-known tournaments or he gets good exposure he's gonna be targeted by western teams. I never said teams don't want to sign winning players. that's a ridiculous conclusion ur drawing there.
@ Topic: I think the issue wasn't really that it was streamed but that sunny made offers and negotiated with players in the name of MyM without their authorization. In their statement they say that they didnt intend to sign any player and that details about contract offers have never been discussed internally. Other than that Shymon pretty much summed it up.

i really doubt offer wasnt serious. probably it was serious and probably everything sunny said was true ( as far as i know he never said maka ( or cool or tester ) accepted their offer ) , but saying all those thing on live stream fucked up everything. MYM is just denying it now and blame sunny for acting himself etc

There are over 20 countries in Europe with a lower minimum wage.

Quoted from the stream between Cella and mods in chat... 30hrs a week.

Quoted from the stream between Cella and mods in chat... 30hrs a week. Either way still not a realistic number. The contract will probably include clauses that allow the contract to be dissolved if Cella under performs which would force Cella to still play 8hours plus a day.

Uhh... I watched this entire thing happen live and I'd like to say a few things:
1) SuNNy contacted Cella not in-game, but rather on MSN, and seemed very unaware that Cella was streaming, and Cella did not remove the conversation from view for a long time, after much had been 'spilled' by SuNNy
2) The only amount mentioned was $650/month, in addition to the Puma and Razer gear
3) SuNNy did not say that Maka/Cool/Tester were confirmed at all. He simply said he was in discussion with them.
::
In addition, I want to ask how MYM's management system works. What, is it that you're not allowed to contact players to discuss things with them? That doesn't even make sense to me. I assume that there are more managers who disagree with SuNNy, but if SuNNy is the only manager for SC2, it just seems silly that the entire MYM would just say "Oh this is so awful that we're getting rid of our manager, for trying to manage our team!"

What are the current salaries of sponsored players? Does anyone know?

Not sure what you mean here, but hopely you aren't blaming Cella here. (And i really think you don't) As soon as Sunny said that take the conversation off stream, Cella did it. Not sure did Sunny see that he was streaming when they started to talk.

Wow so much drama since SCII's release.

That type of information will never be open to the public except for the management and players themselves. Besides SC2, an old Counter-Strike team named Team 3D paid their players $800 USD a month according to an old GGL article. I am loosely typing this, but from what I can remember, MYM paid Moon around $2K - $3K a month with bonuses if he wins a tournament. Note that this is when MYM was run by the original owner.

Not trying to blame either. Just stating what I observed.

for everyone else
its 4.3 hours a day for a 30 hour week, and getting paid 650$ for that every month is a decent salary in many countries, its a less than 6$ an hour, I mean he already plays more than 4.3 Hours a day, and considering, he can also get sponsor money, and donations from his stream he can make quite a decent living off this.
Hell if I was making that kind of money playin sc2 Id move out of canada and go back to serbia where the average wage is 800$ a month and live there where i wouldn't have to pay rent or anything because I would live in my own home

I remember a source saying Moon was being paid $4,500 a month at one point. Sadly, I can't remember what the source was.

Well from Shika's post ;
On September 04 2010 01:30 Shika wrote: He said that he had already talked to maka and would look to form a team with maka, cella, tester and cool.
Cella said -didn't maka refuse?. I don't remember exactly what was said but Sunny said something like "oh? well we can make a team with You, tester and cool".
Obviously even at that point cella knew there was a talk between maka & sunny and maka rejected.
Probably Maka denied that to go along with the MYM's cover up and save everyone from more trouble. (but i'm not sure if maka denied talks after MYM's declaration or not?). So i'm not sure that sunny "clearly lied" about that. At least it's not really clear.
Speculations , speculations everywhere.... how can one not love sc gossips & drama?

Like I said during the stream, "CellaWeRRa" rolls off the tongue. "MYMCella" doesn't.

This is the most confusing drama all week! In a week of the GOM streaming thing, the MBC/KeSPA breakdown thing, the OGN thing and the other GOM streaming thing!

everything about this is shady.
1. why would cella stream that, unless he forgot? 2. mym's reaction is weird. 3. some dude says cella "demanded" money on redditt and it becomes true, because it's on the internet.

Even saw him on some kind of korean download site at some point although that might have been replays as I have no way of telling. :p

Didn't he fall asleep at the netcafe with the stream on the other day? I recall about 25 minutes of the default Windows XP screensaver
