I really loved the MULE video and the claymation runner up from the Euro winners, but felt that all of the American winners were not even close... all in all though, a good group of videos!
tbh it might just be different judges, seemed to be a different style going on.
I liked 'Richard's (Canada), nice use of the in game camera took me a while to recognise the maps and gave it a real pace (well until he started to pause too much and lost it).
Holy shit... I just watched a few... these are amazing.... I mean OMG if the actual SC2 single player cinematics are as good as some of these I'd be happy...
Keep in mine the Europe winners were being pulled from ALL of Europe as opposed to the US just being US (and Canada, missed that)..could account for the difference in quality.
You have to give the US winner props for being willing to stand in front of the camera like that. It wasn't a bad video and some of the quote's were funny. The Mule was amazing though and the Viking song posted in this thread is amazing.
I don't know about the whole Europe vs USA thing, but the first place USA one should not have won IMO. It was mildly entertaining, but honestly .. it was just a bunch of guys acting tough in paintball suits and namedropping a few Starcraft terms in the process, like those improvised 'plays' you would do in middle school. That place should have gone to the Viking song linked above :D
Europe videos destroyed the USA videos. The USA videos were hardly worth watching, although the last USA video (with the paper) was interesting...he could've did a lot more though. The first one might have been really funny if they got some people to get in Zerg costumes or something. The Viking song was great.

holy shit this video is amazing and needs to be seen by all
dude that isthe mst amazing thing ive ever seen
That was sublime.

You know what's sad is that the awesome (fucking amazing) runner-up video from Peter (Germany) just highlighted the fact that some of the sound effects are so shit (Ultralisk attack sounds like a farmer scraping a scythe across a mud brick... wtf).

300 million in us + 33.3 million canadians 497 million in europe (including countrys that got some other issues then internet... like poverty and starvation.
Tbh i dont see it being that big a difference. but yes all in all more people.
banana phone is apparently the best from all the videos. The problem with it is that it is based on non-self-made music. Which was one of prerequisites for the contest, as I remember. Bananaphon #1, Mule #2, Viking's song #3
On June 05 2010 06:40 Wire wrote: was banana phone not a submission? why did that not win =[
Two of the rules were: A. All music had to be original works or owned by Blizzard, and B. Not previously published anywhere, as Blizzard needed full distribution rights.
Not gunna lie I really enjoyed the Us toss overview the most. I teared up when they started introducing new units. That right thars some good toss propaganda! <3
The mule wasn't that great I mean yeah it's all right but I really wan't impressed good song thou.
Us ones were good imo. Best one from each country was second video on each page and best video was the rine claymation and it's not even close. Not a fan of the dancing mule.
Euro what? Maybe I'm blind, but I only saw a decently(?) animated MULE dancing to really bad music that doesn't mean anything. No story, no script. Nothing. It's really surprising what passes as music, video and story these days...
I actually really liked the 1st place American one because the dialogged was just the right level of cheesiness. I think the 2nd place American submission was really cool. The guy clearly had a huge ambitious idea however, for that same reason he wasn't able to put as much detail into it as something like the mule (which was brilliant, simple and polished).

Well, population size is one criteria but I think the real difference is the diversity of culture in Europe vs cultural homogeneity of North America.
I really enjoyed watching all the vids, but agree that overall the EU entries were 'better'.
lmao @ the people bashing the US Grand Prize, I'll admit there were better, but I'd like to see you put together authentic marine and medic costumes, and get on camera and do what they did, hell they even got a chick who wasn't half bad.
The mule video was so stupid. There was no intelligence or creativity involved in the video. Just search techno song and you'd get the exact same experiance. All the other winners were much more epic and worthy.
camera movement on that 3rd US one was amazing, I dont' think anyone would complain if that were switched wtih 1st place since 1st place pretty much blew a can of ass
Edit: Lol I never noticed what the ghost says until watching the 4th US video "Nucular (Bush-way of saying Nuclear) launch detected)
"Weather forecast shows it to be a little, bomb-y" haha I love it
The mule video was the shit, definitely deserved to win imo. I can just imagine the blizzard staff who looked at these shitting themselves laughing at it. It's really a great concept and is really well put together for a short video contest.

I didn't even feel like watching the american ones! The mule was tooooo epic!
I think in the end he should have had an orbital command call-down another mule to that spot and have the same thing all over again while the music slowly fades and picture blurs! Lol cuz that's kinda how it is... terran party while mules are mining and then *crrrrrank... xP
MULE was pretty awesome obviously. The russian video was pretty damn cool, too.
American winner was okay. They could have made a little effort in the "acting" though. I know this is an amateur video, but still... The girl playing the dropship pilot was the best part.

I couldn't agree more. I watched the top 2 from both regions and they were all painfully boring.
edit: The viking vid that people seem to like so much was the worst out of all of them. I turned that one off about 1/3 of the way though, but I managed to get through the others.

All of that shit was paintball gear, authentic marine costumes?? LOL

it was a fucking joke and was painful to watch
THE CIGAR WASNT EVEN LIT
I didn't say they were in authentic marine costumes, learn to read. Obviously they weren't, heres a second try; I'd like to see YOU put together/find and burn money on authentic marine and medic costumes and get on camera and do what they did.
Understand as to why they weren't in authentic costumes?
