The purpose isn't watching a kickass game though. He's not just casting a game. So when he wants to point something out he'll pause. It's just the way it works, and I don't know how it can work any other way. It can be annoying, but that's really when you're actually wondering what's going to happen in the game.

If you want to watch a game straight through, get the replay. If you want a straight through cast, watch a live stream where they're casting games. Ify ou want in-depth analysis, you watch D9 because he cannot possibly cover the gritty details of the game by just smoking through it.

mreh, his pausing IS excessive. at least, i can't help but thinking it is. it's not hard to guess what he's gonna talk about, and specially for those of us who can't catch it when it's live, the times when he looks to the chat for response about "what he should do next" or something like that just feels like filling the time. if people get something out of it, sure, go ahead, but for me it's beginning to lose it's value.

I've already agreed upon pausing is sometimes in order to be able analyze what's important BUT I think D9 pauses too much.

He a friendly contributor, he takes time to elaborate and explain things he finds important because a significant portion of his demographic appears to mid to low level players trying to learn the in's and out's of the game. Perhaps you are getting skilled enough where you are able to watch a replay and see what he sees and intuitively as he does, which is why his explanations and pausing seems "excessive" or "boring". I still kind of like it because sometimes the pause is just to toss in some anecdotal/off-topic kind of remark or to crack one of those little jokes he is known for. It gives his stream some personality.
I would just be careful about labeling he methods in such a definite manner because really when it comes down to it, your interpretation is really subjective to your own state in the game or what you personally enjoy viewing online.

Of course. I started this discussion with "Is it just me...". I'm not out after changing Day9's casting style, I just want to see if I'm the only one having this view. I'm not a fan of Day9, he could shorten his casts abit imo. A mixture of Artosis and Day9 would be nuts.

LOVE the daily on the apm, hotkeys, clicking, etc. although i didn't personally take too much away from it in terms of actual things to do (cept triyng out the F-keys now, i was wc3 and we never had them for a screen-capture type key)
also anyone notice how scarily accurate/quick day9 is? don't quite get that when he's casting games or whatever, really wish he would go into competitive scene more

What, you can't download dailies anymore from Blip, or am I missing something? :S

Dailies aren't casts. Day 9 talks about a subject and uses a game/games as support. Normal casts talk about a game and about the subjects that arise during the games. If you watch dailies to see casts, I agree that they suck. You need to watch dailies because you like the subject, that way you won't be bothered by pausing because he is still talking about the subject you wanted to know more of.

If you don't like the format of the show, you don't have to watch. I think the way he does it has a nice pacing and leads to good analysis most of the time while still allowing your brain a few seconds to rest every so often.

On what days of the week does Day 9 do the daily? I can only catch them occasionally due to my schedule, but I am getting some time off soon, so I'd like to know when I could watch the dailies live!

Day[9]'s dailies aren't meant to be casts. He uses the replays to analyze the player's decisions to help the viewer learn more things and get better. The dailies are more for analysis and they're closer to guides than casts. He pauses a lot to elaborate on specific decisions and look at parts of the game to further his points and bring up ideas. I feel like the pauses are necessary to catch and absorb everything.
There are tons of great casters in the SC2 community, but not many people doing the in-depth analysis Day[9] is doing.

Or the Funday-Monday's...those draw big numbers. Gave us so many meme's and SC2 jokes...it has been invaluable in teaching us even under the most ridiculous constraints we can still win. Unless you name is Ben...

The dailies where complex concepts are analyzed/explained, pausing alot is nice because it takes awhile to explain nicely. Where the daily is focusing on something alot broader (like expand timing/good worker timings) pausing less would be nice.
And dailies like funday, pausing even less would be best. But I think he already does all of these.
So I watch all his dailies. When you're more experienced, i'd imagine you'd want less explained to you in depth, so you'd want him to pause less, but I'm under the impression they're for newer players/low level players. So it's natural that you'd "grow out of" his dailies. (other than fundays)
Go Day9! o.o
