The idea behind expanding behind an attack and not expanding whilst attacking depends on how you go about it.
For example, in TvP BW there was this staple build called Fake Double. You built your rax and your fac and you prepared a small army and you attacked and it LOOKED like you were doing a 2 fac push, but in reality you were expanding behind your fairly strong attack. You could do a lot of damage to the toss if you got lucky and you could easily get your expansion up.
The opposite build to this was Siege FE, where the Terran would get his expansion up faster then the FD because he cut a few units and didn't pull a fwe SCV's to attack, but attacking before this would be really bad, you'd get caught out by Dragoons and picked to pieces. Still, you have your expansion up faster, and siege tech, so you can turtle in quite effectively and macro up a comparatively fiercer 2 base timing push or faster 3rd compared to a FD opening.
That's the difference.
To put this in SC2 terms, a 2rax marine pressure opening in TvZ can get an expansion quite safely. A 1 rax FE get's it up faster but is vulnerable to quite a few Zerg openings and has to aggression to it.
Or, if I push out with my 140 food, 2 base terran army, setting up an expansion just as I move out is quite safe. The expansion won't be attacked, and the immeadiate expenditure of 400 minerals won't be missed quite as much because my units are on the other side of the map now. The attack may falter, it may succeed and win the game right there. Can't really know, but at least I know it's a safe time to expand.

he did that in one of the last dailies and such hints help me alot. now i wonder if there is a collection of such tricks somewhere out there? all that tactical analysis is great but this is another layer of the Game that you do not hear alot about (or do not really see well in replays).

Anyone know why when ever I watch Day9's stream, the video freezes for about 20 seconds every 30 seconds but the audio continues the whole time.
Audio and video are find for all other streams I watch.
I used to be able to watch days stream no probs back in the day.

Same here, It probably happens because the servers cant take the number of viewers that tune in.
Usually mine's stable until the viewers hit the 3k mark then it progressively gets worse until 5k-7k where its like listening to the radio.

For this Funday Monday can you only make gateway units from Warp Prisms or can only attack from Warp Prisms? I hope its not just making gateway units from prisms...I am getting rolled not making units until 6-7 min lol

I'm pretty sure you can make units where ever you want if they are to defend.
Just don't attack directly but with the warp prism mechanic.

You can only attack with units warped in using a warp prism.You can still warp in units using a pylon or a Gateway to defend.

You can make Gateway units from Gateways, or warp them in via Pylons, but Gateway units built this way cannot be fielded to attack the enemy until you've begun mining at 3 bases.
Technically you could just play greedy and try to turtle, grab a fast 3rd, and play normally, but the spirit of this challenge is to use Warp Prisms to harass and assault your opponent so I hope people don't waste Day9 and his admins' time by submitting replays that don't feature this spirit.

Love your show, but I am short on time, so I've been grabbing your podcasts to watch on the bus. I've been converting them and it takes about 7hours to convert a full length daily. Recently you uploaded Taurent vs Sen game 3 which did not need to be converted to iPod version, could you maybe always upload them in that format? Would be so amazing!

In reply to my post 2 spots above, to anyone having the same problem, simply add your podcast folder to your itunes library, the podcasts will show up in the movies part of your library and then they will sync fine. Amgosh no more converting!
edit: omg it only worked for one video! ugh, I hate you so much apple.
