Varane feels like a hit or miss thingy. He's obviously great when he's on, but it he's definitely had some pretty bad off days too and rainy Manchester may not be the easiest adaptation after the sunny Madrid. That being said, Maguire and Varane doesn't sound too shabby of a pairing, especially if they can settle down with a goalie.

Im just baffled at Real Madrid, losing their two starting CBs and Perez coming out and saying they are not buying anyone again this summer....how are they going to survive lol!

As I said, when he's on, he's really good. That's most of the time and makes him a world class CB.

Then there's the Real - City UCL game 2020 game with two really awful defensive mistakes and I recall some of the Real's slumps involving absolute stinkers by him also. To me it feels like he's got some tendency towards awful games at times, maybe more so than some other top tier CBs.

I see the transfer as a potential crossroads for him right now. He's got most of the important career ambitions covered already, there's likely going to be a nice, comfy and lucrative contract that'll cover most of this prime years and PL can be a rough transition with the culture, climate and physical play and all that. It's a big test on how he'll respond.

Getting a prime Varane for 50 million is definitely a bargain, but I feel like there's a handful on things that need to click before Utd get the best out of him.

I watch Madrid weekly and Bacillus is right, Varane is kinda irregular. He was always better when Ramos was his partner, but when Ramos was injured and he had to be the leader of the defense he often had bad mistakes (Like the CL ones). Last part of the season for example, Nacho was more regular than him.

He is an awesome defender when he is focused, though.

It is rather confusing when you see the same people complaining the game is too soft nowadays simultaneously saying players can’t adapt to the ‘physicality’ of the Premier League

That is not right with Hazard though, he has been broken in terms of physicality, his body is shot from either being kicked to death in the prem and it catching up with him, or with the way he has trained in Spain. There was a report 4-5 months ago stating how Hazard ankle is literally 1 injury away from forcing him to retire full stop. That isn't due to him "struggling to adapt" to the league is it, its due to his body giving out

In Denmark we have gotten a rather interesting case of abuse. Esbjerg has gotten new American owner that has hired German coach Peter Hyballa. He has training measures has been under scrutiny for being to harsh, with details coming out to press and the union stepping in. But owners standing behind coach.
Now 21 signed open latter first to owners but with no reaction to the press.

In it they say to hard training leading to injury and not listening to medical staffs advice with one fysio quitting and replacement breaking down in tears.
Players being bodyshamed being called fat in front of others, being touch on naked stomach and chest. Pulling players nibble. Being called stupid or horse. After bad performance Hyballa takes whistle blowing full force in the ear of a player and ask him to do 20 arm bends. Saying he can get players fired. Also the have put 4 senior players to U21 because the talked to press as punishment. And more stuff like that
