Bullshit. Everybody saw messi punching a player's head, with VAR available, and they chose to ignore and he even got to kick a free-kick 4 yards in front. Just like he and Jesus got away with everything they said in copa.

Rules to blame? Bullshit.

No, in that case the incompetence or corruption of the team of referees is to blame. But still not the VAR. How is extra information ever a cause for more wrong decisions?

yea wolves are very solid.

last season vs top 6 teams they got 1 point vs city, 4 vs united, 3 vs tottenham, 4 vs chelsea, 4 vs arsenal, 0 vs liverpool. (that is, 4 wins, 4 draws, 4 losses).

But then there record vs the bottom 6 is awful xD they are as Sneirac so well put last season "the Robin Hood of the premier league".

I worry for them due to not having a big squad to cope with Thursday > Sunday footy, just look at Burnley they were bottom of the league (ish) at Christmas due to their hectic start and squad not able to cope with the injuries they sustained.

Didn't Wolves have some crazy record of always playing the same starting 11 and never getting injured last season? If I remember correctly, there were some amazing numbers in there.

I think I remember seeing that. Another crazy thing they did last season was playing an entire PL match without getting a foul, becoming the first team in PL history (I think) to do that

I was wrong about them being first in history, it was the first since the 2003/04 season https://www.90min.com/posts/6352094-wolves-break-unique-premier-league-foul-record-in-0-0-draw-with-brighton

I missed most of the current VAR discussion, but have my 2 cents anyway

- the old handball rule is shit, the new handball rule is shit. There might be a way to create a passable handball rule, but I wouldn't trust IFAB to come up with it, FIFA to actually adopt it and referees anywhere to apply it. The only thing we can hope for is consistency and hopefully not a kneejerk reaction the other way because people think some decisions have been too harsh.

- while the daily mail article may have been bullshit, apparently the margin of error at full speed is still 2cms. That should probably have been communicated before it was ever implemented. For example say everything <2.5cms should revert to the old guideline, doubt to the attacker

- There is a reason VAR exists in the first place, terrible game changing mistakes/oversights. Fans somehow apparently would rather lose to a dive than VAR irregular goals, or at least so they claim in the moment. Also VAR does not remove the emotion from celebrating goals, neither has the offside rule all this time...

- However review needs to be communicated better. We won't get the cricket/AAF style being able to listen to VAR and don't really need the referee to make an announcement, tho that would work too.
Just have the 4th official give info to the stadium announcer. "VAR review for handball/offside" and "call confirmed/overturned, no goal/penalty" or whatever. Obviously doesn't fix everything, but it is zero effort to make shit better

Kind of sad that only thing keeping some clubs alive is Sponsorship deals, and the hope of reaching the top tier for long enough to make enough money to survive going under again. I also wonder if this is a sort of economic bubble that will eventually pop.

Are there any European squads looking for a CB? Specifically, Mustafi?

Not for the wages you gave him and considering how much of a discount is apparently needed it will make more sense to just keep him and use him to absorb injuries/east european adventuring.
Emery talking about him seems like an attempt to get him to accept lower wages somewhere, which is just silly tbh

I figured, given his salary (I think £800k), he's going to have to get extremely fortunate to find something similar

I was considering whether Dortmund could use one more experienced CB to really challenge Bayern for the title. Right now they're running some quite young and inexperienced defensive players and veteran Hummels. Serie A level Mustafi could be useful, Arsenal level Mustafi not so much.

Leverkusen is another team with high expectations and questionable defensive line.

The wages are likely a deal breaker though, it's probably up to Mustafi if he wants to take a wage drop to prove himself somewhere.

Oh god the VAR naysayers totally influenced the referees. Now we have clear penalties (martial vs palace) not given

Yeah this is just ridiculosu today, 3 blatantly horrible calls and counting

meanwhile in Bundesliga the new handball rules showed its full implications. Technically this is the correct call, but its bonkers
