Something’s Not Quite Right With Chris Paul

Houston looked outmatched once again Sunday night. Harden faded. The role players didn’t hit shots like they did in Game 2. And Paul struggled mightily. It looked like he took the “drag his leg to the finish line” comment seriously, as he posted 13 points on 16 shot attempts and finished up a minus-18. Paul’s typical impact on the Rockets’ rhythm wasn’t just erased; it was used against his own team.

Paul missed six of his eight 3s and three of his patented midrange jumpers. He turned the ball over twice and was swallowed up by the Warriors’ athleticism on most of his drives to the rim. The guard went to the free throw line only twice the entire game. And in the third quarter, when Curry decided to make the game his own one-man show, it was Paul who was left in the dust as the Warriors point guard raced by him on what seemed like every trip down the floor.

Yea, I think a good example of said type of player is Manu Ginobili

Also, the Cavs' effort to close out the 3rd quarter was super impressive. Korver diving on the floor, George Hill offensive rebounding, etc.

Rehabbing Leonard’s image would be ‘easy fix,’ experts say

“Dude let his team down bigtime!! ANY other star would’ve been getting KILLED by the media. If you can play PLAY!!! #Kawhi #NBAPlayoffs,” wrote one user.
“If I were counseling (Leonard) on how to patch things up, I’d say, you first have to come out and own it,” said Marc Bluestein, founder and chief executive officer of Maryland-based Aquarius Sports and Entertainment.

“So if (Leonard) was going to stay a San Antonio Spur, he has to get out in a press conference with Pop and/or (Spurs general manager) R.C. Buford and talk about, ‘Hey, last year is water under the bridge. There are reasons why I made the choices I made, but I have since talked with coach and ownership, management, etc., and we all have an understanding, and I am looking forward to helping the Spurs get back to what the fans and the people of San Antonio expect from this organization.’

“He’s going to get pushed on why he made the decisions that he made, and the media is going to have to ask those questions. But that would be the first thing — you just have to hit it head on.”

Hit it head on, but keep it simple, Aguilar said.
But one expert believes Leonard needs to back up his words with action to “show he is excited” about remaining in San Antonio.

Along those lines, the marketing experts said the rehabilitation of Leonard’s image would be aided by memories of what he accomplished before he suffered what the Spurs say is quadriceps tendinopathy.

JC I thought you were talking about players you love and hate at the same time. I agree with Manu and Smart, but Duncan? What is there to hate about him? Maybe I misunderstand your statement.

JVG always gushes over effort guys, I have heard him use the term "he will never short change you" on very special players like Ariza, Smart, and Manu.Maybe his experience with AI makes him appreciate hard work over ego. Speaking of Manu, I remember there was a playoff postgame interview when Manu was younger where Pop said this of Manu after making a risky long pass and bad 3 in succession, and then make the crazy game winner after that: "I went from wanting to trade him right there and then in the middle of the game to wanting to cook him breakfast the next day."

Manu is the reason I became a die hard Spurs fan!

I misunderstood your post the same way as well. I used to both love and hate Manu. I like the way he plays but he was part of the vanguard of international players who made flopping more mainstream in the NBA. I no longer hate him as just about everybody else has copied him so it no longer applies. Players like Harden are much worse offenders nowadays.

I like the way Draymond plays but it isn't the whining to the refs that annoy me the most. It's how he always screams "and 1" really loudly when he thinks he's fouled even though he doesn't make the basket 99% of the time.

I think Manu was frustrating in the sense that he'd make all these wild passes, full court bounce pass, nutmegs, corner three to corner three Nadalesque banana pass, when a simple pass would be enough. But he does it so casually and always pulled it through.

What about Rondo? I've always found him iffy...

Wow how about this:

tldr: SPURS DISBAND ALL-FEMALE DANCERS IN FAVOR OF COED FAMILY FRIENDLY HYPE TEAM

SPURS SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TRYOUT DATES FOR NEW SPURS HYPE TEAM
Auditions Set for July 21 and August 5

SAN ANTONIO (May 18, 2018) – Spurs Sports & Entertainment will be introducing a 35-member coed Spurs hype team at the beginning of the 2018-19 season that will elevate the game day experience and energize crowds with a diverse array of unique family-friendly talents, including tumbling, acrobatics, dance and stunts. As ambassadors of the Spurs brand, hype team members will participate in a variety of community events and public appearances as well as perform at home games. The name of the team will be announced at a later date.

“We are excited to announce our new Spurs hype team,” said Spurs Sports & Entertainment Vice President Tammy Turner. “This team will further enhance the game-night experience for Spurs fans at the AT&T Center.”

Auditions for the official entertainment team of the San Antonio Spurs will be held July 21 and Aug. 5 at the University of the Incarnate Word. Dynamic stunt artists, tumblers, acrobats, cheerleaders, and other performers are encouraged to attend the open tryouts. Registration information and more details on the team will be released soon.

nba.com/spurs

EDIT: Ok so at first I thought it was some gender politics move and eliminating objectification of women, but it's more complicated. Spurs management claim "lack of interest", but the dance team were not informed ahead of time and they were unceremoniously deleted from all Spurs media frontends. Fans are also complaining that the lack of interest claim is bs. Nevertheless, the all-female dancers in NBA and all other sports as a form of entertainment should really go. It's already 2018, women purely as eye-candy is primitive.

Another news story:

Bucks rookie Sterling Brown stun gunned by police for parking violation.
Brown will sue Milwaukee PD

The attorney for Milwaukee Bucks rookie Sterling Brown said the guard plans to file a lawsuit against the Milwaukee Police Department after officers used a stun gun on him -- without provocation, according to a report -- during an arrest in January.

Plans for the lawsuit were announced as body-camera footage of the Jan. 26 incident was scheduled to be released Wednesday, attorney Mark Thomsen told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday.

Police officers used a stun gun on Brown and arrested the then-22-year-old guard during questioning over a parking violation in a Walgreens parking lot at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 26.

On Monday, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said he has seen the video and was concerned about public backlash over the officers' conduct. He said Police Chief Alfonso Morales also had a similar reaction.

"I'm going to let the release of that speak for itself, but yes, I definitely have concerns after watching that video," Barrett told reporters Monday.

Sources who have seen the body-camera footage told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Brown was not at all combative before officers used the stun gun.

"This could be bad," a source told the Journal Sentinel of the video. "The player doesn't appear to be provocative at all."

Police have shown the footage to some local officials, including a closed session of a Common Council committee.

The officers involved in the incident are the subject of an internal investigation. Brown was not charged after his arrest for resisting or obstructing an officer.

"There's going to be a video that's going to come out soon, in the next couple of weeks, involving the department," Assistant Police Chief Michael Brunson Sr. told a church congregation on Sunday, according to WITI-TV. "And I'm going to be honest with you, we're going to need your support during the challenges."

The Bucks signed the 6-foot-6 guard from SMU last summer in a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, who selected him in the second round of the 2017 draft. He averaged 4.0 points and 2.6 rebounds this season.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

True. It's nice that Kerr is a fan of this Pop type no-time-out final seconds plays, but this was the best time to make an exception to that. He has Durant, Curry, and Thompson, what could go wrong with having a OTO play.

Chris Paul will be that guy who still performs, while actually hurt, while Curry is systematically called "hurt" when he has an off night. JVG was right that he's one of the only guys we called hurt when he plays bad.

Curry is getting the golden child treatment.
Harden gets blown by a legitimate great move and everyone ridicules his defense.
Curry gets destroyed again and again on defense and it's not even mentioned anywhere.
Harden and Paul have an off night despite playing well in the series and they are chokers.
Curry plays poorly and suddenly he is injured.

I really believe that more than the Draymond suspension and the Bogut injury, Curry's horrible game and decision-making cost the 2016 championship for the Warriors. He was forcing his 3s down 5 minutes in game 7 when Cavs knew to guard him well, and that shockingly idiotic behind the back pass turnover to Klay iced whatever momentum they had.

Curry is a great player, but he has flaws that people tend to conveniently ignore.
