What the Cavaliers didn’t do eight years ago set the groundwork for LeBron James’s departure. Are they making the same mistakes today?

When history repeats itself, it gets more efficient. It’s abridged, because it can be—we fill the gaps with context from the past. And because of that, it’s easier to say this now than it was eight years ago: LeBron will leave if Cleveland doesn’t figure out the right move. The Cavs have a week to make it.

baseball and hockey use their minor league team(s) for "rehab stints" to get their players back into game shape after they've rested a long time due to a major injury.
for example, the ERA champion from 2016 , Aaron Sanchez pitched for 2-3 weeks in Buffalo before he comes back to pitch for Toronto. There is no shame in playing for the minor league team when u r on rehab. Isaiah THomas' ego won't allow him that.
if arguably the best pitcher from the 2016 MLB season can pitch in the minor leagues in 2017 then Isaiah Thomas can play in the G league.

he is not in game shape. this guarantees failure. as long as he shoots 36% and 25% from 3 there is no positive role for him on the team.
if he is in game shape and puts up his career average #s there might be a role on the team for him that has a positive impact. if he can put up #s like he did last year there undoubtedly is a role for him on the team.

And his ego does not match his talent. Last year was an anomaly. How long before we can agree that this is actually his level now and not anymore rust or hip injury

every injury healing process is unique. especially soft tissue injuries.
that is why its best for him to figure all this out in the G-League. Once he starts lighting up the G-league call him up to the big club.
of course, that is all just a dream.

Isaiah is very talented to be 5'9" and still compete in the NBA at a high level. I just have a theory that there are a lot of G-league players and bench warmers that can put up similar numbers if they were given the green light to take 20 shots a game and carry the basketball.

Yeah, but at 5'9, with his contract, if he doesn't contribute anything above average offensively, he is practically hurting the team. Add in the drama and the negative morale that he "may" have created.

Which is why they should get an actual backup instead of this drama queen chucker until he gets his grrove back, as a second unit maybe . They have Calderon! Even DRose would be a wise option ahead of him at the moment.
