That's kinda beside the point. He is using the fact that Roma and Villareal (within the top 4 of the leagues who will be *guaranteed* a position in the new system) to show that the new rules give an advantage to leagues that don't deserve it at all, based on their results. So that leaves money as the only justification of the new rules. And that is not really what we would like to see drive the Champions League clubs selection (especially as it is money in a "rich get richer" scenario).
Qualification for the other teams got made harder, and there will be a less diverse representation. Now you could argue that a PSV, a Dinamo Kiev or a Rostov don't add anything, and the games are shit quality anyway, but (1) they draw in people from NL, Ukraine and Russia to be a little bit invested in the CL, and (2) apparently Villareal or Roma are actually even worse quality than these qualifiers.

Roma did have 90 minutes of WTF which cost them their game vs Porto i'll point out. However the point is valid indeed, they clearly deserve place in that competition but what they are doing is targeting the TV audiences that give them the most money to increase prize pool etc etc. Imagine if England did lose its 4th place team because Italy got carried by Juventus as they have a golden group of players now. Would significantly drop viewership from England for a start in which im pretty sure we have the most expensive contracts for said competition (BT vs Sky Sports war ended with 897£million deal) that would drop significantly as less games to be broadcast. If your club isn't in the champions league you are only really looking for the big games which come later in the knock out stages only.
However that just my little argument, i don't see point in keeping it how it is anyway as it justs England vs Spain vs Germany vs Italy battling for the 4th place anyway as no one else remotely close to taking anyone over.

It's not just one place more for Italy, it is 5 because the qualification spots are now guaranteed. If it just added one more guaranteed spot for 4th place and kept the rest in plac e it would be much less of an issue.

It would still imo be unacceptable. I dont like the change at all. I get what they are trying to do but if I was one of the countries or clubs getting shafted I'd be pissed and they are.

Lol. Cilessen got pretty lucky with that. Hope he does better than the first few games of the season with Ajax. I like him, but was quite glad Ajax sold him.

yeah lol lingaard is not doing well. not rooney either. fellaini been a good ballwinner, pogba showing some class, but city by far best team so far. Seems like Guardiola is adapting to the league though - that 1-0 goal was as premier league as they get..
