And still, Sid's got him beat on ppg: 1. Sidney Crosby 1.325 2. Evgeni Malkin 1.180 3. Alex Ovechkin 1.166 Backstrom is 5 so he is no slouch, but lose Ovechkin I don't think he goes off for an MVP 100+ season like Malkin did. Ovechkin is without question the best goal scorer of this generation though. I don't think best offensive player is a lock though. Sid did extend Dupuis' career by at least 5 years longer than it had any earthly reason to exist, and turned Kuntiz into a goddamn Olympian. my fav thing is that as bonkers as Ovechkin is, he's nothing to the all time guys, even when you factor in the scoring difference between the 80s and now: The 30-year-old sniper hit the mark in his 801st NHL game, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (575 games), Mario Lemieux (605), Mike Bossy (647) and Brett Hull (693) as the quickest to reach the 500-goal plateau.

You'd think if the NHL was willing to rig the draft lottery, then they'd have rigged it to make sure Edmonton didn't get McDavid.

Bit different. Mathews is an Arizona kid and they need that for ticket sales and merchandising. And Bettman loves trying to help Phoenix out.
