I didn't see any thread for the ice hockey world championship. I hope that some other people here are watching the games. I'd like to watch together and share some thoughts. At the moment I'm watching Finland vs Russia.
Some of the games are geo-blocked but I don't know which and why. I could watch Sweden - France but for Finland - Russia I had to resort to somewhat less legal streams.
Semi-Final round on Saturday.
Canada v. Czech Republic @ 9:15 AM EST/New York time
Please get rid of the Swedish referee duo who are refereeing the Finland vs Russia game. Absolutely horrendous pair. Especially Mikael Nord, who was just as awful last year.
Russia v. Sweden should be good.. .that starts 75 minutes from this post or 1:15 P.M. E.S.T. Because its in the Czech Republic the Czech v. FInland game in 135 minutes or 2:15 pm EST should be fun to watch.
Just because Canada is destroying weak competition does not necessarily mean they'll defeat very strong competition. Remember the USA at the 2014 Olympics? ..both men's and women's teams.
The Czech Republic has impressed me with how well they've run this tournament.
I don't even score goals in my dreams as good as that Seguin goal to make it 7-0... or the Spezza goal to make it 9-0.
It's beautiful to watch. They are really good. Really looking forward to the Sweden - Russia game. Edit: They're so confident the goalie leaves his goal and passes the puck in front of the goal :D
Russia hired Nazem Kadri as an independent coaching consultant with the goal of improving their diving. so far it looks like mission accomplished.
In other Russian news: Ovechkin will join the team in time for the semi-final game if they win today.

no, the player with the least amount of time left in his penalty returns to the ice and it becomes 5 on 4.
Also, if the penalty is a 5 minute major then the offending player serves the entire 5 minutes and its a 5 on 4 for the full 5 minutes no matter how many goals are scored.
the only boring game today was Canada v. Belarus.. and some of the circus trick goals by Canada even made it mildly entertaining... over all, great games today with lots of electricity and atmosphere in the arenas.
Like, what the actual fucking fuck. Wouldve been 3-2 in favor of finland, but then that fucking retardo referee called a penalty for finland and czech got the lead. What a fucking joke.

Ah the salt, the salt is delicious.
So tell me how was the interference call legit? Completely standard struggle in front of a goal and finland gets a penalty because they did a goal.
edit: You cant just fucking call salt after a bunch of that bullshit. its the same as zergs in 2012 saying that "you just have to play better to counter gglord/winfestor, get over it".

The last motion the Finnish player did was over the line. The puck was gone, he has hands and his stick in the other player's face and pushed further. And it was in the goal area, you can't do that. We played better... just admit it, we had more goal opportunities, more shots on the goal, everything.

You cannot deny that making a call like that, especially after the puck is already in the goal is kind of a joke. Not to mention that the game couldve gone completely differently with finland leading 3-2. Instead the zebras gifted you a 3-2 lead with the powerplay. It couldve been a great game without this shit.
Especially with the line the referees went with, a call like that is just a bunch of bullshit.
Edit: oh btw before the third goal of czech this happened and no penalty ))))))))))))
the best officials in the world are busy working on a north american based contest whose prize is this little 120 year old Cup that has a bunch of hockey players' names engraved into it
crappy officiating is part of the fun of this tournament.

Dude, the finnish ice hockey has better referees than this tournament. And its much said, because most of them kinda suck ass. Honestly, its a fucking joke that those kind of shits get pulled to these tournaments.

Classiness aside, it was a clear situation where the penalty wronged against finland so much, that you got a nice pass from the referees to the quarterfinals.
this goal should've been disallowed. and i'm watching it in slow motion 50 times. its a tough call, but i'd say it should be disallowed because of how the check initiated by the Finnish player resulted in direct interference with the goalie INSIDE HIS CREASE.
had the Finnish guy mugged the Czech player in front the net but never interfered with the goalie i would've called nothing and let the play continue. very physical jostling is cool as long as you do not collide with the goalie INSIDE THE CREASE.

He never interfered with the goalie tho. It was a czech player who slided behind the two striggling players and lost his balance and pushed his own goalie there. Also to point out, that finland got an interference call there rather than just having the goal disallowed. On the pp czech guys made a goal.
he initiated contact with the guy who fell into a guy who ended up interfering with the goalie. but, its a tough and close call to make... i would've disallowed the goal and called no penalty ( if that is possible under IIHF rules).
that's my personal view of it, i have not officiated a hockey game in 6 years; the highest level i ever officiated was Midget "AAA" so i'm no expert by any means.

Yeah, maybe my biggest angriness at this is the interference penalty that Kontiola got, not to mention the slashing,
Sorry if im talking about old news, but anyway i cant wait to see czech to get absolutely rekt by canada today. Hopefully cananda keeps doing what they have been done and send the czech fans crying home after 0-10 loss as they deserve.

I hope the match will be nice. Canada has played well so far, I won't cry if our team loses.
This IIHF World Championship set an attendance record. The atmosphere was great and the event was very well executed. The Czech Republic was a great host.
I wanted the Czech Republic to win the bronze medal this morning.. but they lost
its a cryin' shame the Czech Republic and the 43 year old Jaramir Jagr didn't win a medal. Jagr really ran out of gas, playing 3 games in 4 nights and the team really leaning on him big time.
about my team Russia in the finals in short: pathetic, weak, disorganized, toothless, chaotic, but most importantly - expected play. Like said above, no shocking surprises. Except that i would prefer to see Canada-USA and Sweden-Finland games in this tourney. Oh well, not every year.

Beer in Czech restaurants is cheaper than regular water. No joke! (and its good too!)

russia did fine. they lost to a team that went undefeated in the event... 10 wins and zero losses.
Russia held Canada to below its average in goal scoring... Canada was averaging almost 7 goals a game. Canada scored 66 while only giving up 15 goals in 10 games.
66-15 in goal scoring is the most dominant win by a country since the Soviet Union broke up and hardly any NHL-ers played in the event... we're talking like before 1990.
Half of the 3rd period was still tense because of the Russian's dangerous offense and their history of huge come backs.
Canada and Russia put on the most entertaining hockey games in the history of the sport.
Good Games All Around. Great Event Hosting By the Czech Republic.
even though I know i'm being trolled, just for everyone else: Shots of Goal: Canada: 37 Russia: 12 (!). Dangerous offense my ass. Out of these 12 shots: Ovi - 2, Malkin - 2, Tarasenko - 2, Kulemin - 1, Kovalchuk - 0, Anisimov - 0. These 6 dudes totaled same amount of shots as one young Tyler Seguin. Good job!
Russia had 39 goals going into the gold medal game. The #2 offense in the tournamment. That is a dangerous offense. My post was serious and hardly a troll of any kind.
Russia got shut down by a record breaking team that went 10 wins and no losses and scored more goals than any other team in the 90 year history of the tournament.
Also, in Russia v. Canada games ... often Russia has very few shots and the games are still close.
Many serious hockey observers consider December 31, 1975 : Montreal v. Soviet Union to be the "greatest game of hockey ever played". Shots on Goal ? 39-13 in favour of Montreal... google it if you doubt me.. there are 3 hour documentaries about this game.
Any intelligent hockey fan was on the edge of their seat going into the 3rd period because of Russia coming back from the dead.. like they did in this game here... 5 goals in the 3rd period.
Here is some dangerous offense...
and i can rattle off at least half a dozen other huge mofo 3rd period comeback the Russians have pulled off over the years. They were the defending gold medal champs and won 4 golds in 7 years.
its the high powered offenses that both Canada and Russia possess that make their games the best in the history of hockey.
pretty sad you think its a troll though... its too bad u r so serious and can't just enjoy the games... i had a great time watching these games.
Many Russian players displayed a lack of class in leaving the ice during the Canadian National Anthem. The team faces sanctions for this poor behaviour.
It should be noted that the best player in the world, Alex Ovechkin, remained on the ice during the anthem. "Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Viktor Tikhonov and Dmitry Kulikov were among the few players who remained on the ice for the anthem."
I hope Ovechkin wins either an Olympic Gold or a Stanley Cup or both before he retires.
i'm lucky, i can walk down the street and watch a hockey game with a gang of drunken louts on any night until the middle of May.
The IIHF also puts on other great events like the Women's World Championships and the World Junior Championships. If you liked this event I recommend checking out these other events as well.
"the IIHF said Kovalchuk gave an `unmistakable head gesture` as signal for teammates to skate off the ice early after collecting their silver medals."
again, 1st class guys like Ovechkin stayed on the ice and listened to the Canadian anthem. i hope the guy wins a gold medal and stanley cup because he is worth paying money to see and is just a 1st class dude... and for the record .. he is the best player on planet earth.
as far as Ovechkin's class and dignity goes ... i can't say the same for many of the other russian players, especially that contract reneging, lying rat Kovalchuk. Though. funny thing.. when the russians had 1 of the best comebacks i've ever seen in an IIHF game in Buffalo .. coming back with 5 goals in the 3rd period to win gold. .. every canadian stayed on the ice with tears in their eyes.
