Not really sure what the Knicks are trying to do with the Rondo trade. Even if Melo opts out there still won't be any cap space. Rondo has two years left just like Amare, and without Melo the Knicks won't contend for anything next year and won't have a draft pick either. I guess maybe convince Rondo to resign in 2015 but without anyone he can pass to. Having a clean slate in 2015 isn't so great as the free agents are bad and NYK won't have draft picks to build around and have literally no way to get a first round pick.

Or I guess maybe Dolan really thinks Rondo/Bargnani/Chandler could go all the way, maybe this was the plan all along, obv worth trading away the picks.

They're making noise to make it seem like their free agents are desirable and they're doing things.

We will see if he can keep this up. If anything, his hustle alone is the reason he should be out there. It is just too bad that it is when they should be trying to stay below 10th place! .. And I remember when Jordan Hill was drafted actually. I think Isaiah Thomas got some shit for that pick (he always liked drafting the tough, gritty guys that try to outwork you).

So far, the Lakers haven't really lost any games they were supposed to win, but have actually won a few they were supposed to lose. So a little better than expected as of now.

Meeks is playing well in this system also at the moment:

Additional basketball-reference numbers that stood out:
-Hibbert having a ridiculous 11.4 block percentage
-Although not as impressive as LBJ, Klay Thompson and A.I.'s TS% and eFG%. To a lesser extent, Lin as well. Morey is smart for recently saying Lin is their second option on offense after Harden.

I wonder if Lin can ever be a legit starting PG on a winning team with his assist/turnover ratio.

First time in a while I actually stood up out of my seat for a play an opponent has run against us.

The Pistons were actually really fun to watch in that first half last night, they seemed like they were really clicking for a while. I don't know what happened but they completely melted down in the 3rd which after browsing some sites I learned is sadly common for them.

The Knicks' trade rumors irritate me. Because New York is the largest city in the US, their local papers have national and even international reach. They keep publishing retarded lopsided trade rumors that ridiculously overprice their dregs. Then the national media like ESPN and SI publish serious pieces analyzing the trade proposals instead of just laughing at the Knicks.

I think something like Rondo + Lee + Wallace for Amare + Felton + Shumpert would be considerable for Boston. They get rid of two bad contracts, and get a young, elite perimeter defender to go with Bradley. Wallace's contract is terrible considering it runs for three more years. Celtics won't be able to compete anyway until Rondo's current deal ends, and he probably won't even stay in NY then. Basically it doesn't matter what Boston does, they won't have enough cap to sign a big name FA after this season, and so unless they luck out from the draft, their roster is gonna be equally shitty next season, and there are also plenty of good PGs to build around if they do get a high pick. If they keep Rondo, I don't really think the current roster + even Jabari Parker would make them good.

If you threw in draft picks then maybe (and it's not like NYK has any left to give), but Amare is worthless since his knees are so fucked up, Felton is a downgrade from Rondo. Shump is basically the only good thing out of that trade but without Rondo you lose any facilitator you have for offense. Bradley's not capable of doing it, Shump's not capable of doing it yet. Felton does it at an average rate. Yeah it's less terrible than the rumored deals but still nothing I'd consider for more than 5 seconds. Assuming you're correct and Boston gets a high lottery pick, why trade away an all-star PG just to draft another (potential) one? It makes no sense. Keep Rondo, draft a good big man, build around that core while playing terrible to bad for another couple seasons, hope you strike lucky with draft picks for the next several years (not necessarily stars but at least good rotation players), then use the cap space from that shitty 3 year contract to sign a big free agent then. Giving up Rondo to get Shumpert seems moronic to me.

Who would actually win in that trade though. The Knicks would still be garbage and the Celtics would be stuck with 5... ok 4 useless players and still be a lottery team.

I think Sullinger has real potential, so then if the Celtics aren't looking for another PF then there are really no big men to draft. The main thing is having Rondo is great and all but his value is wasted unless the Celtics can build a team soon to compete or guarantee that he will re-sign, which in the latter's case they can do even if they trade him, and especially if he gets traded to a bad team like New York. Felton sucks but he's a great PG for a tanking team because his contract reflects his value. It is possible that drafting smart for the next two years will guarantee Rondo stays, but then the last year of Wallace and Lee's contract really restrict Boston's flexibility when Rondo gets that max deal. I think it comes down to tanking for three years and competing with a 30 yr+ Rondo or tanking for two and potentially putting together a good, young team and gamble on 2015 FAs. Unless for some reason Boston thinks with Rondo + drafting a good big man + the current core can make them a good team next year.

I think it would be pretty even tbh. NY wants Melo to not opt out and bringing Rondo would probably do it. In a perfect world Knicks would have a clean slate for 2015 but Knicks don't know what rebuilding is.

I agree in theory that the Celtics should deal Rondo for value, I just don't think that the package you suggested offered adequate value for him. In particular I'd want one or two draft picks in addition to the young player with potential. Just that one player who has a very very slim chance of actually ending up ever being worth more than Rondo won't cut it.

The problem with your logic is that it assumes that the Celtics either keep Rondo or deal him in the package you suggested. I think it's far wiser to keep Rondo, keep shopping him for deals that will bring them more than just Shump+expirings, perhaps even let him play later in the season to show teams how good he is, then try to deal him right before the deadline when fringe playoff teams or whatever are desperate or wait until the offseason. There's no reason to rush now for a subpar deal.

Yea, the Knicks aren't an ideal trde partner for the Celtics because they have 0 good contracts, and 0 players near Rondo level.

still lol today.

lin is solid. I wouldn't want him as my starting PG on an NBA finals team (though if I had 2 other super stars or something why not) but he's a solid choice for most teams.

I'd like to think most Knicks fans only said that to stop the tears from flowing. Lin gave them a good reason to watch Knicks basketball, which has yet to reappear for me.
