WC3 last year was a delight though, got really bad nostalgia from that.

What the fuck is Crossfire, and who cares?
Srsly, no 1.6?

Crossfire is basically a popular Asian FTP 1.6-esque shooter, if I'm not mistaken. It's been at the last few WCGs. I think OGN also has a Crossfire tourney they run from time to time..?

I believe the phrase "They pay for Crossfire to be in WCG" comes to mind.

I mean it has nothing to offer. It's SC2 tournament is shit and it's game selection is ''lacking''

This post actually made me laugh, like they give a shit if you "boycott" them, lol. The audience is Korea and China, look at the games and the sponsors.
lol

I really have no idea how much of a pull that has in China, but it's still not worth going. WCG has been a terribly run tournament since... it's inception. That was okay at the time since there wasn't as much going on, but right now we have plenty of well organized and run tournaments. Hopefully the LOL guys realize that this is not worth attending.

Hopefully, but it might have been change because if you go to the game portal WC3 isn't there.

Do the national winners have to pay their own way again? I recall that keeping a lot of people from participating last year.

From the USWCG site:
The winners of the WCG 2013 Online Qualifiers will receive stipened travel to the US National Finals, where they will have the opportunity to compete for the chance to represent Team USA at the WCG Global Festival. Members of Team USA will receive compensation packages for travel to Kunshan City, China, where they will compete against competitive gamers from across the world as representatives of Team USA.
Last year, the 2012 WCG Global Festival prize pool totaled $258,000.00 USD. The prize pool for the 2013 WCG Global Festival has not yet been announced. Details will be posted when information becomes available.
I assume compensation packages are not full coverage, but some limited financial aid. Attendance of US National FInals fully covered though.Maybe their official sponsors (samsung, riot, wargaming, smilegate, the latter three being the companies behind the bought in titles LoL, WoT and CrossFire ) pay for their players, but more than that, I do not think WCG has the money to fly that many people to china.
It is gonna be interesting, how they tailor tha prize (assuming it is gonna be 250kish again) over the 11 games at the Global Festival. I have the feeling that the bought in titles gonna take the cake. With the arrival of WCG (and LCS) the relevance for the (globally) most popular games at WCG is pretty damn low.
WCG is like the equivalent of less reputated Olympic Games of E-Sport, where partaking and representing your country is put above athletic competition. Sadly no olympic spirit involved but money.

Are there really 4 Starcraft Qualifiers?
The website only has Starcraft for Qualifier #2 and #4, unless I am mistaken.

It looks like each game has 2 qualifiers a few weeks apart, so rather than 2 enormous qualifiers covering 5 games, they split it up into 4 qualifiers with 2-3 games each.

Not trying to be overly pessimistic, but this is going to be another shitstorm waiting to happen.
I'm sure some money issue will pop up 'again'. At least this time they have more tactful post about the event, with no mention in the OP about receiving funding to the Grand Finals, even for the winner of the nationals. At least that is what stood out the most to me, given that I'm not blind but nobody else has mentioned or noticed this yet.
|
lets hope they have a required replays for starcraft... because last time we had people who just said they won without even playing a game.
|
I'm pretty sure no one cares about WCG any more.
|
I'd never been a big fan of WCG, they get a couple of good players to the finals, but it can't be compared to the player pool of the others big SC2 Tournaments. I hope this year will be different.
|
I really wish stuff would not be all online nowadays offline tournaments are only for pros now no average people any more.

crossfire is 1 million times more popular in the asian countrys then 1.6 which is even dead in eu xD i want CS GO
|
no 1.6, no GO, no WC3, no DOTA wtf WCG???!
|
I remember when I was excited as hell for WCG whenever it was time for it. Now there seems to be less games? Didn't past WCGs feature a lot more games? I still remember hardcore rooting for USA players in BW and going crazy when Froz beat Boxer twice.

Does anyone actually know more about what's going on with this? Xeno just tweeted that he's cleared for WCG next week, but according to the WCG website (http://us.wcg.com/?page=viewnews&id=7248), only Puck, Huk, Suppy and Goswser are qualified. Did someone give up their spot perhaps?

Why would they do that? Not enough prize money/not worth the effort or a conflict with another event? You don't have to answer if it's not public info, I was just curious why these decisions get made (like would it be different for Huk if Xeno wasn't next in line to get the spot).
|
Congrats to Xenocider for winning WCG USA, have fun in China at world finals!
Too bad only 1 goes on, Puck and Suppy definitely deserve some love too.
I do agree with the sentiment Kane tweeted about these finals though, but c'est la vie.
