WCG USA StarCraft 2 Live Event in NYC This Weekend
This weekend, WCG USA will be hosting a StarCraft 2 event at the Samsung Experience in the heart of New York City featuring $2,000 in cash prizes. The event will be completely free to spectators with local StarCraft 2 fans encouraged to come out and support the local scene, as well as catch all of the action as it happens on the 16 panel 184" display that will be setup exclusively for the event.
Can't make it into the city on Saturday or Sunday? We'll be streaming select live match-ups from the event on both days on the WCG USA homepage located at http://us.wcg.com. Subscribe to us on Justin.tv @ justin.tv/wcgusa to be notified when broadcasts go live this weekend.
We'll also be hosting a Dreamhack viewing party on a Samsung TV during the event, so you'll be able to follow the action from both events.
Event Schedule and Information
The event will be taking place and open to spectators at the times listed below. We will be streaming live for ~3 hours on both days of the event, covering select featured match-ups. The tournament format is a 32-player double elimination bracket, with each game being best of 3 maps. You can view the current list of participants here.
Main Event
• Saturday, June 18 - 13:30 GMT (+00:00) to 8:00 pm EDT
• Sunday, June 19 - 10:30 am EDT to 5:00 pm EDT

Would try to make it out there to help, but I doubt the pay would be enough to cover travel. Seems pretty freakin sweet, always wanted to see NY, but I guess I am stuck keeping the scene alive in MO. Good luck!

Yeah if you are in the area make sure to check this out - we went and visited the location when i was in NYC and its sick. Hotbid played SC2 on a 5 monitor set up haha.

As a spectator, can I come and go as I please? I'm not sure when I'll be able to show up/how long my stay can be.

Just out curiosity why aren't any big names players participating (other than Pokebunny and Hashe I don't recognize anybody). I know wcg used to be the only big tournament in the west and now there are bigger and better but does no pro player want to even bother with the wcg anymore?

they announced this tournament over a month ago. but it didnt show up on the "Sponsored Threads" until today, if you search im sure you will find the older threads.

This week is such a great weekend to watch E-Sports, but its also probably the most important weekend of my life, so I will unfortunately be unable to watch any of the tournaments going on. If Dreamhack, Gomtv and WCG wouldn't mind delaying all these tournaments for a week and a half that would be really great. Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any idea how accurate the 8PM end time is on Saturday? I may have to leave early, and am curious if the event would really go from 9:30-8PM.

We have staff for the event, we just wanted to get some more of the TL directly involved (which we did). Going to be a fun weekend!

Yes. You'll be surrounded by strangers, but strangers that you share a common hobby with. I find random SC2 players and spectators to be some of the easiest people to get to know.

Heyo - question here, for what will be the dealbreaker for me trying to come or not:
How is the Dreamhack viewing area? If it's just a living-room sized TV and a handful of chairs nearby I might just stay home. If not, it might be fun to give it a shot.

This is the screen for the Dreamhack viewing party... I think it should be big enough and there is plenty of seating around.

Nice meeting all of you though, especially Certified, that Scham guy in the cardigan who was playing the ZvZ on the ladder, that dude that I was talking to about Broodwar and telling me that joke about Jaehoon whose name I completely forget, that dude with the ponytail from Arkansas (sorry I'm awful with names and I've been running on an average of 4 hours of sleep or less for the past few days)
I found PokeBunny's wallet on the floor before the matches started. It's a shame I didn't find it after the matches ended cause I would have walked away with $2000.
