You're supposed to be like "I can't go to a barcraft for three years" And then I'd be like "thatsthejoke.jpg"

When you have the opportunity try to get to some ESL event. Try to make contact and become friendly with either TL.net staff on site or the ESL admins. Try to get invited to the players party. I was at the GamesCom after SC2 launch. Went to the TL.net (community) dinner. Half the people there were players, casters and staff, the other half regular guys. All TL.netizens tho. 120 people, booked a complete mexican restaurant. ESL admins gave tickets to the players party the next night to everyone in attendance. That weekend was the most awesome thing I ever experienced for nerdy introverted socially awkward shy me. Most of the players were broodwar legends, and thus kept the "community standards" - being extremely approachable and just about ready to talk for hours about everything with anyone. Good times before eSports blew up and people on the inside needed to distance themselves from the audience to preserve their sanity. I met people I have known for years online. I got to talk, chill, smoke and drink with people whose replays I have poured over wide eyed for years. I did a lot of orga work in German broodwar back in the day and I got fucking recognized, people were telling me how much they liked my work and stuff - that was so unreal, it boosted my confidence sooooooooo much. The highlights were: TL.net went through the redesign of their page at that time. The horses were gone. Nazgul promised me over a beer that the horses will come back. When I got to the after party I saw White-Ra standing around alone, so I went to say hello. He gave me his beer and got another one. Proceeded to get me drunk over the night. DIMAGA and Tarson had the third place match on Sunday. Both got drunk as fuck Saturday night. I was in a dance-off with Tarson, DIMAGA, Demuslim and a bunch of other guys. Morrow spent the entire night of the player party on stage practicing SC2. Seriously. Sitting on the curb outside of the venue with some players and regular guys passing around a bottle of Jacks. A few guys went to "have fun" at the biggest strip club+bordello in Europe (the world? Pascha in Cologne). Demuslim, who lived with NarutO at the time, forgot his wallet with all his money and documents there. NarutO had to pick it up the next day because Demuslim was too ashamed. Morrow forgot his backpack with all his gaming gear there. And a shitton more. Proof, of course: http://imgur.com/a/bX4rR I'm the guy with the purple shirt on the last pic. Well, and the brown hair at the bottom of first pic...

Back then it was just the old guard that was attending stuff... I think I met Chill, Nazgul, zatic, Carnac, HotBid and R1CH. But I had other hookups at the time anyways from my time with BW4eVeR, MYM and mTw, . In 2010 I was basically buddy buddy with everyone from the European broodwar scene, players orgas everyone. Just briefly talked to TL staff when I met some by chance when smoking outside. I'm a bit sad to be out of the scene, but was on the way out in 2010 anyways, never made the jump to SC2 or any other esports scene (in a behind the scenes capacity). Had a nice gig going from 2011-2014 managing a WoW website that took most of my time and made some nice cash. Sometimes I wish I could get back behind the curtain and be involved, that shit is seriously fun and it just feels great to be a part of esports subculture of creators and passionate people. But at 28 and YEARS out of the loop and no contacts anymore... I'm doomed to watch from the outside =(

Asmo, who's the last remaining Sith after Vader and Palpatine bite the dust? Dark Revan or whatever the name of Vader's apprentice in the video games and comics is? We're doing a viewing party at someone's place for the finals, about 10 people who play normals from time to time (and ranked team for some of us), I think the drive's two or three hours for us so it's decent? I'd have taken the train otherwise.
