Imo you decide which setup you want to use and the number of players---whatever we get will be around that number and I imagine to fill out the game completely we'll need to coerce some people anyway.
Playing via forum ia so painful though. It's far easier with built in functionalities in a chat room format.
I actually think forum mafia gives a different type of game. Chat room format is just way too fast. The most interesting format is what people are streaming like the twitch dailymafia channel or ryuzilla on Tuesdays. Hilarious to spectate sometimes. They also use webcams so sometimes you can tell things from body language.

I don't think there's much to know besides that most of us signing up from here are noobs/first time playing
Chat mafia is faster, yes. If you prefer playing one game over a week sure go for the forum, but honestly if you just want people to play together chat is way more fun.

Yea, I agree they take a really long time with their decisions sometimes. I don't mind the pacing too much as I usually just watch mid-game which makes things more interesting or I watch while playing some game on the side. I think the bigger issue is the cliques that form due to their repeated cast of players.

And suff I sort of get what you're saying but what's the alternative? I don't understand how you have a game without a mod exactly. And tl mafia isn't all that slow by some standards... There are some days that last a week on other sites.
Epicmafia has the game mechanics built into it. So if you are mafia you can just choose who to kill during the night and everything happens automatically.
How do you deal with cheating or behavioural issues or screw ups in any way?
What kind of cheating are you talking about? Why would you care about cheating if you are just trying to play an inhouse?

I know it's not the best reason, but playing on another site has it's own difficulties. This is mostly because signing up for another place you might never use again is not something most people want to do. The hype dies down when you want people to "move" locations to play something, and chatting cross platform is not fun for most people.

Ive played a bit of epic mafia. Its a really fast game. Like everything happens within 15 minutes. Days are 2 minutes long or some shit. Its pretty silly, people getting lynched cause they chose a bad name, or they didnt claim properly.

Not sure what kind of game you were playing but it's definitely not like that.

I just went on the site. Possibly times are wrong, but its really similar to sc2 UMS mafia. Night actions really important. Analysis of text not so much.

Yes it's similar to the sc2 ump, but ranked/competitive games are fairly .... competitive and it does require a lot of textual analysis. It's not the casual kind of games you find on sc2.
