I just never got to the part of PoE where the cool skill trees did anything and I got bored. They changed it so you start feelign the impact of the skill tree a lot earlier on, which is a really nice bonus. It definitely smooths out a lot of the early game leveling. I hadn't played PoE for like 6months, just came back to playing it, they've improved the game a fuck ton. Probably one of the better companies at balancing games.
I'll have to try it again then, I'm about ready for another go at a hack and slash rpg.

Ali top got nerfed, not sure if it's too too good right now but it's probably still at least alright.
Renekton is really bad right now, I'd reccomend someone else. Ryze is really good and interesting and different, I'd reccomend him.
If you want to junglet try to get started with a rush6 jungler rather than the complicated ones that wei2coolman mentioned. Amumu, Vi or Evelynn are probably gonna be the easiest ones to get into. Vi isn't all that great and Amumu is only decent atm but good enough imo.
While Caitlyn is supposedly easy (which I am not convinced of), she is also really bad atm. I'd reccomend Corki I think, short ranged but got a fast jump. Or if you want a long range ADC that's similiar-ish to Kog and Trist I think Jinx is good too.

man you gotta know how to abuse your range and take pot shots while still csing on caitlyn i really don't know why people think she's supposed to be baby's first adc

She's not the best ADC, nor is she the friendliest for those who don't play ADC, but if you want to learn how to play ADC, you play Cait to learn.

Why does that make sense? People like Corki/Kog make more sense. They offer the two spectrum of ADC.

Kog, has change in range due to his ability, doesn't give a consistent base for players to work off of, also due to the popularity of triforce build, his max damage output is based on weaving in ulti's on his auto attacks.
