Master's Coliseum is back in 2018 and it's starting with a bang! Here is what is in store with SCboy's biggest event to date.
Master's Coliseum 2018 will be a dual-game event with StarCraft 2 and Warcraft 3. For StarCraft 2, the format is as follows:
The main event will be a 16-man GSL style tournament, but the groups will be selected with regions in mind.
Group China: consists of 3 players advanced from the Chinese Qualifier and one seeded player, Cyan; Group Korea: consists of 3 players advanced from the Korean Qualifier and one seeded player, Rogue; Group Wildcard: consists of 3 players advanced from the Wildcard Qualifier and one seeded player, Zest. The qualifier is open to all players, including eliminated players from the previous two qualifiers. Group Training House: consists of 4 players advanced from the Training House Qualifiers, reserved for players currently residing in the NetEase StarCraft training house and the Korean training house, each training house will have their own qualifier.
The groups will be standard GSL style group with a slight twist: there will be a final best of 5 match between the top 2 finishers, and the "1st place player" will start with a 1-0 advantage, winner advances to the final bracket.
The 4 group winners will join four invited players in the final, offline single elimination bracket. The invited players are: INnoVation, TIME, Scarlett, Neeb.

Nice, thanks, and happy to see that TIME is in !
It's almost as if we had the IEM Shanghai this year.
|
why 'korean qualifier' called 'korean qualifier'? It is same as 'wildcard qualifier'
|
Only open to korean players i guess

Yeah, quite a shame, it has a lot of potential that could hopefully be realised had they opened themselves up to the rest of the world.

That's mostly about local tournaments getting little coverage due to foreign casters not being able to observe the matches. God knows how much trouble we had when I was trying to get Tenshi and Alex into GPL lobbies a couple years back.

Doesn't casting off a live-feed solve the problem?

Accessing the chinese streaming sites is still kind of pain and it's annoying to deal with without proper language support, also the overall broadcast quality was often up in the air since back then Chinese production didn't really have top of the shelf encoding quality and in-game observing. It was a bandaid solution at best, and when the Chinese orgs finally upped their job at overall production, the ship has sailed for a dedicated oversea audience due to the sheer amount of inconsistency over the years.

Hopefully there's some English coverage for the playoffs, so often the issues with the Chinese events are a shame for us in terms of trying to watch ;;

I'm not a fan of a tournament inviting players and seeding them directly into the money.

They are surely popular in China, and since it is an offline tournament i find it understandable.
Plus INno and Neeb are competitive most of the time.

Neeb, Scarlett, and Inno are all quite popular with the Chinese, as far as I know. And TIME too, for obvious reasons.

The sponsors like them And this match has war3,Invtie Moon Fly Infi and th000 10 years ago, sponsors was the war3 player in Netherlands.

They invited those four players because the one who sponsored the tournament is a fan of those players, especially a big fan of INnoVation. Although SCBoy who is actually holding the tournament is not willing to do this.

Impressive stuff from Byun in Game 2, winning with 4M against LBH isn't easy. And against Dark of all people.
Wow, Dark kinda just fell apart in the last game. Byun should've brought this form to GSL, he probably would've advanced.

i don't want to be one of those casual players who talks about what pros are doing wrong like i could do any better, but that was so frustrating to watch by rogue. what the fuck was he doing with those vipers? it looked like he had never used viper/hydra against liberators before. none of his abducts made any sense or did anything. he abducted a liberator behind a group of hydras that were firing forward at bio. and he kept fighting at bases he had already lost.

Rogue is probably just tired, he streamed 5+ hours earlier. Also he's never been that great online. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Personally I'm more interested in the 4M + Libs style instead of Bio/Tank. Would be cool if we saw a bit more of that in the TvZ meta.

Would be cool if we saw a bit more of that in the TvZ meta. it was probably a map choice. dreamcatcher is a choke heaven. we saw TY repeatedly setting up mine traps in chokes, which i don't think he can do as easily on all maps. he even used the fifth base planetary as a retreat point. true to his reputation, it was strategically very strong from TY. he took advantage of the map architecture with a somewhat outdated unit comp. also, not only is the map chokey, but it's choked by thin high ground walls, which made the liberators even better as he maneuvered in circles and bled off zerg units

Looking forward to some PvP. I'm hoping Classic wins this group, I think his second loss to Reynor was a fluke and that he will do well in this tournament and in GSL vs The World.

This disruptor stuff that Trap's playing against Impact is fun--I hope it stays in fashion.

That was an insane comeback by Trap. So cost efficient with those Disruptors, barely lost any of them too. That was just insane control.

Impact's Zergling reaction to these disruptors was also textbook.

That feel when you perfectly predicted something for once and then a Korean midget switches a player into the only GSL group with overlap with this event.

Exactly. They turn a blind eye to doujins because they know the people making them are just as overworked as normal mangaka, and they don't make big profits anyway. The people who buy those are fans to begin with, and if they can buy doujins they probably buy official merch too.
What we see here is a completely 100% unrelated company using that IP for their own marketing. Altogether not that different from creating a shitty MOBA for mobile devices and then slapping together Marvel heroes as the character skins. China lol.

There is this thing called "doujin" tho ^.- ...it's not exactly legal to commercialize fan fiction Exactly. China lol. F*cking Valor Arena,F*ck Tencent,Tencent is a company grow on copy.

So throughout LotV, PvP went from disruptor ping pong to chargelot/archon/immortal/phoenix to glaive adepts to disruptors to PICA to just charge/archon/immortal mirrors with the occasional disruptor or glaive build.
But now we're also back to staying on 1 base for 7 minutes first.

Y'all got any of those interview translations? Cuz I feel like us non-Korean-non-Chinese speaking folks REALLY need it right about now. xD

Hopefully this will be a chance for Neeb to realize he's still weak to those sorts of plays. I'm certain Rogue will just cheese him out for the most part (At least 2 games will be easy Rogue wins with cheese I think. Neeb might win if Rogue tries to play straight up before Rogue cheeses again to finish it)

I'm certain Rogue will just cheese him out for the most part (At least 2 games will be easy Rogue wins with cheese I think. Neeb is one of the best lategame PvZers I think probably in the world (based mainly on the fact that lategame PvZ has not changed substantially from last year and because Neeb was able to beat Rogue in the lategame when practically no other Protoss was at the time), but of course, his problem is getting there. However, Neeb did beat Rogue in that one offline Chinese tournament that no one heard or knew about until after it happened. And, yes, Rogue is probably refining his cheese builds, but it's not like Rogue didn't know Neeb's weakness going into Hangzhou. So if Neeb could beat Rogue who already knows Neeb's weakness, then it's possible for Neeb to win.

Online broadcasting and copyright/fairuse is very much gray area.

I wake up check, took a shower, open my computer, checked TL, and then I saw SoO in a final against Zest.
And I knew... even if I was awake the nightmare was just beginning
+ Show Spoiler +But seriously come on SoO, just one time

Hey, it give the player more time to get into their zone, visualise the match and think about the moment....SoO is soo screwd

soO better hope Zest goes full ArtyK

Soo likes to be in 2nd place again.

Pigbaby vs soO flashbacks

soO is best, Zest is worst!

Do you think Soo can make a great comeback ? Yes.
He already tallied 3-3 with Zest.
|
Zest wants to gift soO a trophy?
|
Sometimes i Wonder how Zest wins his Games.

rofl the Chinese chat is filled with "soO takes our energy" equivalent spams

Quite an entertaining Bronze league heroes final

I think soo overcommited on the low drone Count?

Why did soO go for mass unupgraded roaches? Can that ever even work?

A defeat for the legendary replacement man

So this is how Zest wins. He drags his opponents on his Level.

I think he needs to see a psychologist.

Zest almost made him win, he just recovered at the last possible moment.

Is it worse to get 4-0'd or 4-3'd? soO is only one with enough experience to answer that
