Group One Favorites Maru, Stats, TY Chance of Upsets Not likely. Ryung.
Seems pretty clear cut, I would be shocked if any of them lose in a bo3 twice. Any upset potential is likely to come from Ryung, who has historically strong TvT and every now and then pulls out A-level games.
Group Two Favorites Serral, Scarlett, Solar Chance of Upsets Not likely. Leenock?
Serral, Scarlett, Solar. And if there's any upset it'll probably be from Leenock, so this just seems like a very zerg strong group.
Group Three Favorites Special, Zest, Snute Chance of Upsets Very likely
A ton of very strong foreigners and B level Koreans, as well as "favorites" who can be prone to choking and playing below their peak level? With a good day, any of HeroMarine, Billowy, Kelazhur, Namshar, Lambo, and Bunny could make it out.
This will be a fun group.
Group Four Favorites Neeb, soO, Trap Chance of Upsets Very possible
While I would say Neeb and soO always make it out, the last place is going to be a brutal battle between Cure, TLO, Trap, Patience, Losira, Harstem, and SortOf. I would favor Losira and Trap. I also always loved Cure back in the day, but I don't think he's doing good nowadays?
He would have to lose vs stats to get a chance to even play TvT vs i assume Ryung though. But yeah i think that would be how he loses his chance at group stage, by losing to Stats and then to Ryung in a TvT
That's assuming TY has learnt how to play Sc2 again after his bad GSL performance and can beat Ryung as well xD
OMG the level of the qualifying brackets is insane ! Really hard to predict 3 out of each. Bracket 1 : Stats for sure, then Maru TY DNS or Bly could make it. it''s only BO3, anything could happen. Hell even Stephano could managed with a bit of bracket luck Bracket 2 : Serral and Scarlett are easy foreigners choice, but Leenock, Solarand Creator will definitely try to get there spots. Mana True and even Guru could upset some games and stop them Bracket 3 : Zest Special and Kelazhur would be my choice but Snute and Bunny are tough opponent and NoRegret showed he too can upset manage to play top level games Bracket 4 : soO Neeb Trap. But Losira, Patience are here and Harstem and TLO can still take them out.
B3 seems to be the "easiest" but definitely not the least stacked.
hmm so is Stephano back for real? training in korea and so on. would like to see more of him this year, hope he can be back on his old form pretty soon.

TY showed us the best games of the season, i dont understand how you can say he was playing badly
Looks like an awesome set up they have in Katowice for this tournament. PCs back to back like in GSL qualifier and just playing games after games. Nice that they can also view all the games as well and have like a "soccer saturday" vibe going. Wish GSL would take note!

With Hurricane and Cure next to Neeb, I wouldn't automatically favour Neeb. Hurricane's a PvP sniper, and Cure used to be really good.
That being said, Hurricane could straight up lose to Cure, and given Cure's recent performance along with a slight Protoss edge could give Neeb the advantage. If Neeb gets by Cure/Hurricane, I think he makes it through rather easily.

Its never been autowin for protoss the raven could be argued was even better before the 4.0 patch, ghosts libs and BCs are effectively unchanged and the carrier has had a slight nerf with the cost of interceptors but that is not a huge thing in PvT.
people shouldn't be salty about a game where pretty much every tech path was used by both players. That was a treat guys. If the matchup evolves in that direction it could be pretty cool.

I also loved watching FlaSh split 4p maps in half with 100 turrets and then mining it out for 15 minutes.
And I don't think it's outrageous that Maru can beat Stats in lategame ( People that think terran should have no lategame of course think different). When we see let's say uthermal beating Classic with mass Raven we can talk.
first good late game TvP I've seen in months and people complaining about balance
Also I think the new seeker is better than the old one in TvP because of the energy cost, it took you such a long time before you have enough seeker missiles

Honestly we don't get to see PVT lategame very often, mostly one side will just kill the other side before that happens, mostly it's T kills P since Protoss players tend to tech more often.

yeah often times the players will stay on early late game tech and trade because neither of them sees the opportunity to to tech up.

If I phrased it as more of a mindset that's my bad, but I'm just saying I don't think you can really let korean players get into their comfort zone, which going hatch first in ZvZ definitely does. Afaik Solar loves his aggro ling/bling wars against players who aren't soO.

I dunno, he looked pretty damn comfortable against Guru v0v It's just usually an awkward position, I guess. I think the aggressive player tends to have a big comfort lead in ZvZ, being on the back foot is never fun in that matchup.

Just played at the usual average foreigner level :D. She's in LB now.
How do you go from S-class to losing to Guru?
Is it surprising? Scarlett's never been very consistent in ZvZ. I kind of knew she'd struggle to rely on the matchup, because across her entire career she's been inconsistent in the matchup. She lost to Namshar in WCS, which is when I really started to think 'yeah, this isn't gonna last'.

I think the bigger factor is that most of them are competing for almost a decade now and are slowly getting old and slow. They don't necessarily need a coach, the WCS koreans in 2013/14 still dominated foreigners.

I'm still confused by that stargate location choice, like the low ground is literally half a screen away, for a proxy oracle it's at most a 2 seconds difference for when the oracle arrives? Unleeeeeess this was like a voidray shield battery allin? I don't get it
Thinking about it I would think the in base stargate was suppose to be void ray shield batteries all in? (You kill the queens with the shield batteries then just auto-win killing the spores) It's the only think that make sense to me

Rogue wishes he could be bad enough to make top 8 in GSL
He has the talent too, it's unfortunate that he ran into the ZvZ titan that is Scarlett

Could've been worse, he could've encountered Guru in the qualifiers.

Even as a protoss, just a-moving banelings into enemy army is so satisfying feeling.

I lost one of my first games ever by losing all my Zealots to burrowed Banelings on Desert Oasis. Good times.
EDIT: Wasn't being sarcastic either, the whole Roach/Marauder/Immortal thing that was going on at the time was much more boring.
the amount of commercial brakes this tournament has really diminished the viewer experience for me. I know they need to make money off of this, but WTF sometimes they even took breaks when they werent showin video-ads, just not-showing actual game-play

Like I said earlier in the thread, that's every non-Korean tournament in SC2. Better get used to it, it won't change

ESL are probably the greediest tournament organizers there are. They recently started streaming their CS:GO and Dota tournaments on Facebook, presumably because they were paid, and tried to take down people restreaming on Twitch.

There's the Scarlett we know and love, crumbling against what should be an easy opponent. That one week where she pretended to be good was a welcome relief from the emotional roller coaster that is being one of her fans.
My power rank with Serral #5 still holds strong for now :D. I'm really badly disappointed with Stephano elimination (couldn't see the games), hope he manages to come back to the top level one day.

She can't beat ro32 wcs players without fancy builds.

Why would that he the case?
Just poking a bit, because Scarlett usually drops here and whines about toss even when ZvP is broken So I'm sure toss is at fault today too! Somehow x]

Yeah, toss is bad enough in PvZ for Creator to lose to TRUE so Scarlett couldn't beat Creator to advance! It's a bit sad that she is eliminated early but there was too much hype after GSL so it's a good thing Plus EU>NA still

well that was close enough, maybe it was mistake for her to always chasing True overlords with her queens and losing injection time and then hasn`t been able to keeping her 3rd hatchery alive

Even the most foreign of koreans can beat the most korean foreigner
Sorry for Scarlett, she played really great after she was knocked down to the losers bracket, but True just played really really well those series, kinda was in control of all 3 games, even if lost the 2nd, he dictated the pace of the games.
