Why aren't you for Stats? soO is washed up whereas Stats is the new topdog around :o Because he is as inspiring as ramen? He is crazy good obviously, but there is nothing interesting about him. Still very happy for him, he deserves it. Someone who has given it his all in progaming for over 7 years, steadily improving but without ever winning anything, finally won his first big title. Now I don't know what you have in your ramen, but I'm usually not nearly as inspired by a bowl of noodles as I am by the story of Stats' career. I agree the storyline is great, he seem like a great guy and I'm genuinely happy that he won. His gameplay just does nothing for me. I have trouble finding pleasure in protoss victories (unless I dislike the losing player), and adepts + the Rain-esque style just make it even harder to cheer for him. The TL writers said it best : "He is unenthusiastic and methodical, clean but oftentimes uninspiring."
Full disclosure here that I cheer for soO but I totally agree with you said. Stats is great guy. Solid player and as Stats said himself a happy programer. But his style is just boring. It really took me by surprise with a cheese on Echo that he did (kind of Has-ish, like 5% of Has). But then, same old same old. Also, after he won, he didn't show much emotion and he said on the interview he felt nothing. I was like "Seriously?". Imagine what soO would show if he finally won.
Make no mistake, Stats won fair and square and he deserved it.

Aggressive players, creative players, micro-oriented players. Maru, SoS, Life, Parting, Polt ... It's a personal thing, I agree that someone like Lilbow winning by blinking everygame was super dumb and that Stats is a much more "objectively" interesting and intelligent player, but it just was much more fun.
I think the two main things are
1. Protoss wins have a tendency to feel cheap even when they're deserved. This might be due to design, or to our own expectations and bias against toss. 2. Rain-esque, clean and perfect wins have a tendency to feel cheap even when they're deserved, at least for me. Aggressive playstyles are just more entertaining, exciting and shiny. It feels like those players really seize their victories.
(Now I realize there are flaws in this argument considering Stats was aggressive in almost all the games today, but that's mostly the adept meta. I think the core of the argument still stands)

Ya know, sometimes you just gotta ask yourself why do you care so much about some guy half way around the world losing in a video game. I really shouldn't, but goddamn I am really torn up for soO. I didn't actually think he'd win, but I'm still depressed

I always think about how he felt after he lost and standing there on the stage and tried to kind of crack a smile for the TV. People say third time's the charm but this is his fifth ones already. I just wish before he retires he will at least have the taste of big tournament victory for once.

i think it's kind of stupid to gauge how much people deserve victory by how they react emotionally
kinda like criticizing someone for how they grieve - everyone does things in their own way

Also don't forget the pylon change which will probably affect no one but sOs.

Counting just code S (so no super tournament, no code A, no world championship, no invitational) I count 8.
