I dunno. Dark has played 7 Ro16 group stages across SSL and GSL. 6 of those had some sort of teamkill in them.
Maybe he should change his approach a little bit.

I only looked at last years GSL because that's where Dark was strong. I mean sure he had Dream in his group, but he still could have made it. In SSL he also had to beat Classic and did it. Seems like a GSL curse to me Similar to Maru, well Maru at least made it quite far a few times :D

The only curse he seems to have is that he either becomes a Royal Roader or never wins the tournament at all.

I should've written that better. I meant a 3-way fight in the long-run. I said "always" as I've been eying those 3 for as far back as HotS. soO and Dark for their insane mechanics, ByuL for being the closest I've seen to Life in playstyle.
Of course 2016 belonged to Dark, but I really wanted to see if he had the staying power like Life did, especially given the astronomical hype. We'll see how he does at IEM...

Haha well Maru had a few top finishes which is also worth something imo But yeah last year Maru was only good in proleague pretty much (at least we don't have to consider that anymore, one good thing about PL being gone )

Dark is legit, zerg just isn't strong enough atm at the very top lvl i think. Talking about Life though, Life actually had fairly mediocre results outside of his tournament wins in korea tbh.

You know, I'm not opposed to the idea that for most of LotV, Dark's mere existence has been preventing Zerg buffs. When Dark is at his best it doesn't seem like it matters what state Zerg is in, in a best of 5+ he'll still drive you to the edge.
Especially against Terran, I consider Dark at his best to be in a genuinely different league from any other Zerg.

I think soO should be able to get to that lvl though. Talking about direct buffs though: I am not sure what we should buff tbh ^^

It has nothing to do with zerg if freaking sOo is the zerg to qualify instead of Dark uh. 0-4 isn't legit for such a player :/.

I am not saying Dark lost the group because of zerg being weak, but i still think that zerg is fairly weak atm. Or rather terran too strong :D

He was also in a group with Innovation...
that being said he also didn't play against Innovation - he lost to Classic and SoO.

Right, but im sure he spend more time preparing vs terran than vs Protoss or Zerg just based on who was in the group. if i was him, i would have prepared mostly for zvt cuz he has done well vs classic in the past and dark is pretty good at zvz.
i play all the races , always hve because i love this franchise but i do think zvt at the highest levels is probably a nightmare for these zergs. i dont even think its due to liberators or siege tank improvements, i think its just ppl getting better at the 2-1-1, reaper cheese existing and just their existence is forcing the zergs to play really safe and take gas so early.
the best terrans play the game so well, you cant help but think "wtf do u actually do as dark here?." i was watching TY's stream the other day, just playing a solid tvz bio game, and thinking that "if i played like this, i would literally never lose on ladder here in NA." level of refinement is getting so high that it is scraping the skill ceiling of this game, and the game is starting to feel more and more like brooodwar (where the top terans tend to just always beat top zerg). zerg is my weakest race for sure and this is just my opinion, but i have played and watched a lot of RTS over the years and these trends seem like they will continue in the forseeable future

At a guess, I would assume that Dark spent the bulk of his time honing his ZvT. Given the history between him and Classic (up until yesterday) I'm thinking he kind of just took it for granted that he could easily beat Classic and move on to the winner's match. Since it was always a safe bet that Inno > soO, he would then be fighting Inno for first place. So he focused on ZvT, gambling that he would never even have to face soO.
I think he got totally blindsided by Classic, he looked pretty shocked both times when he lost. Then he went into his match against soO completely unprepared and against somebody whose ZvZ has always been better than his.
Just my hypothesis on Dark's preparation and why he went out 0-4.

Yeah that's perfectly reasonable to be honest. It's hard to know what went on in their heads, especially with team-kills being weird.
