Two amazing terrans and the TvP advantage atm is gonna make it hard for a foreigner vs korean final. I think it is somewhat possible though, and if anyone is capable of pulling it off, it would be Showtime or Neeb.
I don't except 3-0s, I think both are capable of taking a game or two. TY was a tiny bit shaky in the group stage so maybe Neeb can beat him but it's a bit unlikely especially given Neeb's track record in important PvT games. Maru vs Showtime is really interesting IMO. Maru is playing really good right now, but Showtime is super solid and maybe he can take advantage of Maru's over-aggression.
if it's TvP semis and final, I think ShowTime got a chance if somehow the final is PvP, Neeb will win it :D if it is TvT, I think Maru... Maru hasn't dropped a map yet

:thinking: Showtime only lost 2 maps against TY. On the first day of the tournament, with way worse jetlag for him. He is on a 14 game win streak. Though he did not look as solid vs XY yesterday as he usually does. Please have at least one close game vs maru :D
It's a fucking amazing line-up, the two best foreign protoss against some very hyped terrans from Korea who sometimes disappointed overseas, but looked very strong in this tournament. But I can't stay up from 5am to 9am today . I hoped it was around 4am so I could watch a bit and maybe stay awake for an entire bo5, but 5am :/.

Zerg isn't doing too badly against Terran right now though. Buffing stalkers against mechanical air units (since liberators and medivacs are the main problem in the match-up) could be a possible fix. And if that causes colossus based armies to be too powerful due to stalkers shredding vikings, they could just revert the colossus buff instead. The game is better off with colossus not being truly viable anyways.

I kind of wish we had more Koreans in this tournament. Such a large prize pool yet so few "top tier" players. Though it was nice to see players I never heard of before get some exposure, like the player from Japan for example.

That's a seperate subject from the skill required in microing against Disruptors.
Picking up units in a medivac is something every master+ terran can do at roughly the same time. It's not that difficult. However, instantly being able to focus fire at the right time, and splitting when you realize you can't kill the disruptor in time has an infinitive skill cap.

Blizzard is going to blame the sample size was too small in this tournament and that foreigners need this Korean region lock in order to sustain the foreign scene.
I feel like Neeb should've played that out. I mean, he would've lost tbh, he should've at least had a go at defending all three locations. Anyway, ggs, I was hoping this tournament would reinspire my PvT but no such luck.

Gap is increasing right now if you look at the performance of top korean terrans. Especially Maru and Innovation are out of this world.

Normally I'd favor Neeb over Showtime, but with how he's played Showtime is definitely the favorite. And the English stream seems to be able to tell when games end to start working again.

What we can do is see if Maru will make TY choke.
I think you just have to rely on the eye test at this point. Look at the play styles between Koreans vs foreigners and judge from that in addition to what little tournaments we have where both good Koreans and foreigners are playing against each other. The increased amount of streaming definitely helps.

Yeah but its like if he didn't do X then maybe he would have a chance. But over the rest of the game he also needs to avoid doing Y and Z.
And these koreans can just force potential errors over lessor skilled players all the time.
Right now it seems that all-ins are almost a non-factor when playing vs protoss and thus its alot easier to rely on the favourite to win.

Don't look at the timer, it's misleading and useless. It should be enough to know that Hearthstone isn't over yet (and still takes a while, 2-2 atm and it's bo7) and they still need to move on stage.

Nice! I wanted to point out exactly same to some ppl telling here that TY's win shouldn't be considered as important as GSL.! This seems at least 2x impressive than GSL.
Wolf could probably do anything he wants there and will never have a problem finding casting and on camera jobs in Korea. He seems to be insanely popular with the Koreans. I honestly think he might do korean shows in the future and maybe even go beyond esports . Don't think he will ever leave Korea.

Well, they are the best way of ensuring that the best player actually finishes first. Everyone plays everyone on equal terms, no luck of the draw.
So if a match ends up being irrelevant it's only because someone has been playing exceptionally well.
There is luck of draw in the order. It might happen that player A gets eliminated only because player B beats player C, because he gets to meet him at a point when the game does not matter to player C at all (while when A played C, it still mattered). There are definitely arguments for each system, but "no luck of draw" is not a valid argument for round robin.

WESG should become another WCS global event where the winner qualifies directly to Blizzcon. So there would be IEM as well as WESG.
And they should stop subtracting a seed from Korea or Circuit according to who wins the direct seeds at the global events. So at Blizzcon we would have 8 (or 7) players from Korea and Circuit each plus the 2 players that won the global events, regardless of region.
That would mean the stronger region could have two players more than the weaker one, but it would be based entirely on strength at the global events. So Korea could have 9 to Circuit's 7. Or the other way around (when pigs fly).
So Blizzard could keep the separation of regions meaning foreigners are represented at Blizzcon, but there would be a small countermeasure balancing things out ensuring the strongest players qualify. A bit of both.

There was a very big balance patch a while ago that changed a lot of things (Patch 3.8.0) so yeah, the meta is different. Especially PvT seems to be very Terran favored right now (despite that, Showtime was very confident before his match against Maru).

My theory is that last year the koreans were demotivated because they knew their teams would disband at the end of the year and now they all practice super hardcore to survive in the post-KesPa era.

yeah but it's still weird to gg out so early without even trying in an elimination game of a 200k tournament. some players did comebacks from way worse positions.

My understanding is that a lot of big teams dropped their SC2 squads, and some of them have kept their teams.

A bunch of players have already found new teams while many are still teamless. (CJ) herO joined ROOT just today. Jin Air is the only Korean team that didn't disband. The amount of retirements is thankfully very small up to this point. Some players even announced their retirements and then came back a week later.
Although I think part of the weirdness of the KR scene is that a lot of them still need to do army service, and there hasn't been a rookie draft in a while so we're not getting new kids on the block as much as we used to.

We did have a GSL debut this season and it was the greatest.
But yeah, the Korean scene is eventually going to fade just because of inevitable military service. But that's still a few years away I reckon.
Well they used to do rookie drafts back in the BW days, just kinda disappointing they didn't do one in SC2, but I think being part of a KeSPA team wasn't necessary for SC2 pros anymore.
When they come back they might migrate back to BW.

Also when KeSPA switched to SC2 there was the whole eSF scene still in tact so doing a draft wouldn't have been as viable.

if it was game 1 or game 2 I could understand but in the last game of a series you usually fight until there's absolutely zero chance you can still win.
You think these guys are allowed to make deals before matches dividing prize money differently for example 175k-125k? Overall as cool as 200k sound Im not a fan of the steep prize pool distribution and I doubt it influences viewer numbers, but maybe theres some other advantage Im not seeing.

Depends on the player still. Fantasy wouldn't leave a game until his final building starts to burn even in game 1 of a series. I'd say this one was definitely a bit early and not a sign of a great mindset, but I can also kind of understand it.

There are no rookies as far as I know.
I can't say I'm too surprised to hear this, given how few "new" names I've seen pop up in recent memory. Although I don't follow the KR scene very heavily - there very well could've been quite a lot of qualifier grinding beasts that never made it to the GSL but I never would've heard of them to be fair.

Anyway, Maru and TY have been top 5 Terran, if not outright top 5 for just about their whole careers, couple that with a favourable meta and of course they're going to stomp everyone who is a tier below their level, which is 99% of the progamer field. Maru stomped his GSL group too, and that held only Koreans, same of Innovation another top 5 Terran in a favourable meta. But, no it must be foreigners unable to close the gap, despite numerable instances proving otherwise.

and what was your excuse for HSC where mostly korean protoss dominated foreigners. was protoss OP at that time? also according to aligulac (which you cited to prove pvt is imbalanced) tvz isn't terran favored right now.

Well what do you expect when TERRANS are the ones playing Terran? I mean, sure Protoss is in a bad spot, but that's obviously because they don't have any Protoss playing for them. Just imagine how powerful Zerg would be if we had any true Zerg players.
