The only thing is that, if you cheer for Zerg, the likely outcome is Innovation's mech. So it's either the guy you root for wins, and he faces mech a bunch, or the guy you cheer for loses... unless of course we think that Byul has a better chance against Innovation than Dark.

byul is probably the best Zerg vs mech by quite a margin. the problem is that it's a finale

Well...one of his defining attributes is being one of the best anti-mech Zergs we've ever had. Don't know if he's made a full recovery or not but his ZvT looks quite good lately from what I've seen.
I'd be more concerned if ByuL can defeat 1st place :p

ByuL's anti-mech peak was vs. a terrifically different playstyle though. Inno's new mech style is extremely aggressive early-mid game until the death push that's supposed to hit pre-hive.
Just consider: ByuL's peak came before vipers, ravagers and anti-air queen buff, and he's playing an innovation that now has cyclones, libs and t-OP-nks. Given that all of those units are pretty key to the mech vs z that inno plays (except libs since machines don't need no freedom), I think it's a complete tossup how good ByuL's zvmech is compared to Dark's

Yikes, ByuL had the ultimate timing, right before +2 air, +1 ground weapons, graviton catapult, AND the 3 extra carriers... if he attacked any earlier he wouldve rolled over Stats

Close Byul, but I don't see him winning this game. Storm/Carrier so strong. Maybe if he could get some corruptors, a couple ultras and hydras, I think that could beat this composition.

He needs burrowed infestors and vipers and to slowly try to out-position Stats as he tries to take his 5th.
Stats not getting an oracle at this point is actually extremely surprising... Envision is so powerful late game and necessary to not get randomly pulled in or fungal + parasitic bombed.

Ultras can tank/kill High templar/zealots easily and can tank interceptor shots. Great combination, until Protoss has a ton of immortals/archons. Byul can still win this game if he takes a good engagement, that last one wasn't the best.

I think it was a mistake to split his army to kill that base. That base wasn't worth much and the units were needed in the fight.
Or am I wrong?

I think he underestimated the usefulness of cracklings late game, it couldve been 10 cracklings instead of half his army killing the 5th base and it wouldve died just as quick.

Instead he made an army, did nothing then expanded and teched slower. By the time the lurker den/greater spire/ultra den came out Stats was maxed an on the doorstep.
Basically, ByuL is a half stepper.

Byul had a huge advantage. He could have kept attacking and win (he was 200/200 with a bank and Stats had 120 supply I believe). Since he chose not to keep attacking, he should have stopped making banelings and roaches/ravagers, instead adding in Hydras a lot sooner or adding infestors, anything but making ling/bane/ravager/roaches.

I think he was scared of Stats going for a strong push as Stats was poking with his army multiple times without actually committing. I wouldn't call that a throw, it was really smart by Stats.

The upgrade disadvantage must have dissuaded him too. While it was smart by Stats, ByuL could still have won that handily if he'd been decisive.

We watched both semifinals today and they were incredibly good. Innovation playing one build over and over was a little silly, but apparently the strategy of not changing the winning horse is the correct one. The Habitation game of Stats vs. ByuL made me really angry though, I would really have loved to see the stupid golden shit get demolished and at one point it really looked that way, with the great BM gold steal
