This thread is not the US Politics Mega-thread. The discussion about Trump/Clinton/MAGA/MKGA stops now. This is not the place for it. We will take mod action starting from Page 5.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the thread for the 4 episode tournament, "Make Korea Great Again". Our goal with this tournament is to create a new Korean weekly event, however in the past participation has been an issue. If consistent sign ups for this happen, and the viewership is on average 2k or higher, we will continue to push this for 2017. Prizing for this tournament is going to be $300 thanks to our friends at Matcherino details are below:
SIGN UP LINKS (Each day will be 3 AM PST / 8 PM KST start time)
PRIZING 1st place - $200 USD 2nd place - $50 USD 3rd/4th place - $25/$25 USD
FORMAT This will be an open single elimination tournament, available to anyone on any server or rank, but will be defaulted to the Korean server. All matches will be Bo3 (Bo1 if Ro64) until the Finals, which will be Bo5.
I still remember the time you guys did Acer teamleague and thoroughly enjoyed your cast... But I guess memes are necessary to attract audience these days... Chinese scene is pretty meme as well
I guess the people who want to rename are offended because they are Trump supporters and the name makes fun of Trump? But aren't those the very same people who are against pandering to the always-offended leftist? This just doesn't make any sense guys
This is great, because right now, we need every single fucking tournament in Korea that we can get. There desperately needs to be a reason for at least some of the ex-Kespa guys to stay in SC2 and time is of the essence. Go BTTV!

I don't really care about trump I'm just tired of this phrase.

It's so catchy though. Also considering how 2016 has been for Koreans, I'd say it's very relevant -_-

By the way, Rifkin on Reddit asked the community about name for the new tournament and this is the answer we have given him. People want to make Korea great again

We will invade Iraq, kill thousands of civilians and one clown. Why the clown? You see, I told you nobody's gonna ask about the civilians.
Smoke screen tactics at its finest, BTTV is obviously primed to take over the world.

Not really the best meme if you're trying to be an inclusive tournament, but I hope things run smoothly without any scandals
Its not meant to be inclusive. We going to have a great beautiful wall of lag and make the foreigner pay for it. And if they have a problem you than tell them the the wall got 300 pings higher.
Tried to make a meme out of the tournament name, ended up creating a meme out of the meme about the tournament name. Rifkin, employee of the month at the meme factory.

I don't think you appreciate the divisiveness and poor taste of this decision. In the minds of a significant portion of the population, the tournament might as well be called "Starcraft Macht Frei". Everyone involved needs to take some time and reflect.

those people should "grow a pair" and stop acting like a special snowflakes.
Stop being offended by irrelevant stuff and focus on something worth your outrage

Pop culture...
The hateful and divisive President-elect is not a matter of pop culture.
Ugh, I was hoping people would stop parroting this leftist media propaganda after it was proven they had been lying to you for the past year. How was Hillary doing in the polls again? Oh right, 98% chance to win! Go truth!
You could just change the name right? I like basetrade, but wtf did you think was going to happen when you signed onto that name?
Right?
Maybe funny to you because you live in Canada, but isn't funny to me. We all have a right to vote with our viewership, if people don't want to watch because of the name... I support that fully.
As for the mod, invoking the US election by virtue of name makes this a political thread, regardless of intention.

Maybe I'm in the minority when it comes to people watching starcraft on the internet, but if you venture out past that to the rest of the country or the world, then I'm not in the minority.
Further more, I'm sure the success of your stream has to do with the fact that you offer a high quality product, that I and many others enjoy... I promise you it has nothing to do with the name (which you could change).
If you have any friends that are gay, hispanic, black, or really any minority group that live in the United States, I suggest you call them and ask them how they felt about the election in the first week and going forward. Shocked and scared that's what I hear from people... Jewish people walking home to find swastikas on their doors and shit like that, little kids chanting, "build the wall" in school while other little hispanic kids are crying and recording it on their phones.
It's fucked up... So go ahead and tell me I'm overreacting again.
If you actually believe that I am overreacting, it's because you can afford to, because you think it won't affect you. Nobody is threatening to take away your healthcare or your right to marry based on your sexual preference.

Some people don't get it, if it doesn't affect them or they don't think it will, they aren't concerned.
This isn't about minorities, just about money = viewers = greater numbers.
For the record I'm in no way saying, "fuck Basetrade" or anything like that... but I definitely lost respect for the brand.
And I'm one person that won't be watching any of these tournaments.
I've been a big fan and player, since the wings beta. As much as I like starcraft, I won't choose it over speaking out against a tournament name created from the words of a man who espouses hate against minorities and empowers racist people/groups.
If this sounds like a tumbler rant to some people, try turning on a news station other than fox and objectively looking at the things that are happening in my country.
I'm didn't make anything up in my previous post, those things actually happened, you can google them.
You are using the words of a man who is an advocate of torture and nuclear arms proliferation.
If you other people feel this is wrong like I do, please don't watch, speak with your viewership numbers.

Naming a tournament as a joke based on a famous quote by someone you consider evil (my opinion of the man is irrelevant) is in no possible way offensive.
just from the first page of a lazy google search. Just because we use those quotes does not mean we espouse all their beliefs. Just because I use those quotes does not mean I support genocide or war. Words are words, and I use them as words to mean that specific quote or what the quote means to me.

You're treating me with leniencey because I make a valid point. It's true we learn things from the mistakes of our past, but isn't the point of that learning not to repeat the harm they caused?
No person is 100% evil, or even evil at all... still people do things to hurt other people and if you are in the majority it is your responsibility to speak up for and even protect the minority, even if such things aren't easy to do.
If you doubt me, ask players from Mexico how they feel about the name of this tournament?
My guess is that the entire country didn't like being told they had to erect and pay for a wall to keep them out of my country. As a community we should care about Mexican players and how borrowing speech from a racist man might have an effect.
Ask yourself if something like this is "inclusive" or if some people will look at the name and feel the same horrible feel I felt in the pit of my stomach on election day. If it isn't "inclusive"... is that really what TL is supposed to be about? Basetrade, ask yourself the same question.
And if it's so "idiotic" let it die by itself with everyone speaking out against me. If my ideas are so stupid, then feedback of the community should match that.

Lots of mays, questions, guesses and general I'm-offended-by-proxy concern trolling.
Major, a player from Mexico, competed in the first MKGA tournament, so evidently he wasn't particulary bothered by the name. But you don't actually care about actual people's opinions, you're concerned about demonstarting your virtue and superiority over the bad-thinking 'racists'.

Feel free to overreact as much as you want, the first tournament had more views than anything else we've done lately. I don't think you understand that you're in the minority.
...and minorities don't matter, is it that you're saying? I wonder, if you are in any way aware, that you're paying a high price for the rise in viewership numbers by caressing the fascists.
Would you name a tournament "Mein Kampf"? (that's the Nazi "bible" from Adolf Hitler)

You're lucky I'm feeling nice by even replying. Quit this... crusade before I click buttons.
You might be the single most intelligent person on team liquid. You even pointed out virtue signalling. You is a good boy.

I look forward to the "Cut the hair off the Drones after they have been exterminated in the Gas Geyser Tournament." That is a hilarious name to someone.
Because jokes are subjective too. And if it offends a few people, who cares, people need to stop being so sensitive.

Pet vs. Natural game 3 definitely worth watching! Some sloppiness on both sides, but the hilarity increased with time into a 30-minute show of low-eco skill.
I saw the event on the calendar and thought to myself "that's a great and funny name". I do not like Donald Trump and thought it was funny. I visited this thread and nearly cried. Shame on you complainers. Go Basetrade!

Yet another confirmation of Godwin's law.
What that? I'm guessing its probably something akin to "Everbody I don't like is literally Hitler".

Good lord I heard them mention the thread was a shit show, I assumed it was exaggeration. It's a funny name and a cool little tourney.

You haven't heard of Godwin's Law? Now I feel old.
Basically it says that the longer any online discussion goes, no matter the topic, the higher the chance someone will bring up or try to make an analogy to Hitler / Nazi Germany.
That aside, the tourney line up looks really sick, and if I weren't in bed sleeping, I would totally watch this. (Or rather, should be in bed sleeping)

In the 2nd game I had the same question, but in this game, what else was he gonna do? He lost all his tempests, so he had no answer for ranged liberators. So he couldn't fight the army head on and win.
I see Skytoss is still rather strong. Glad to see Basetrade TV is continuing these neat Korean tournaments. I'll have to get back in the routine of following them.
Wasn't that just incredibly good timing by Patience? Right before roach speed and +1 carapace. Fight might've looked very different if that would've finished.
