The Kings of the North is a new-old tournament run by ESChamp. We’ve invited some of the cream of the crop for North American talent to come face off in StarCraft 2 and more in Toronto, Ontario in March. We’ll be spending 3 days seeing some of the best competing, as well as hearing from them in all sorts of ways. We’ll be featuring: A Live Edition of StarCraft Jeopardy with Troy Pavlek himself! A StarCraft 64 side tournament. And whatever whacky stuff the players are interested in doing (that we can show on internet TV)!
|
This sounds pretty awesome. Love the side tournaments. Add a Smash Melee side event and it'd be perfect. The amount of cool Starcraft shit that happens in Toronto really makes me wish I was from around there.

In fact one of the lounge-y rooms will have 2 CRTs for Melee/64's until I get my hands on one to put Melty Blood on, but still.

Seriously though, we'll probably be getting a lot of shenanigans throughout the weekend. Lot of cool plans for it.

Shouldn't this tournament be called "The King in the North"?
|
A little upset you havn't invited ThorzaiN or NaNiwa because, they both went under the nickname king of the north during their respective primes.
None the less, Scarlett is the queen to rule them all.

I am sure there will be some smash sessions happening
|
Naniwa will qualify, I'm calling it.
|
Tournament having "North" in the name without Scandinavian players? pff....
Well, joke aside, awesome idea. Will definitely watch! Go Scarlett!
|
Tonight is the last night to sign up for the LAN qualifier
So if you're in the Toronto Area you need to register
|
All canadians. Only one good player. Well, hoping Kelazhur or neeb qualify then. Also, where the fuck are naniwa and thorzain?
|
Due to the Naniwa and Thorzain thing I've always considered the battle for best in NA to be the war for King/Queen Beyond the Wall and now some politicians apparently liked that idea enough to turn it into a full blown platform, which I personally think is a bit much.
|
The NA Ladder Hero qualifier is Neeb... good luck everyone else

Attempt made to fix Jeopardy audio, sorry that, that happened but I can only run with what I got.
We'll be making a lot of fixes tonight in attempt to get everything up to par for the rest of the weekend.

I actually really like the bo1 round-robin format to determine the seeding. I wouldn't mind seeing other tournaments do this as I think it could cut down on some of the complaints on bad seeding. Obviously it would be a lot more games with something like a 32-player tournament, but its something that could be done behind the scenes (online) the week or so leading up to the tournament.

Loved day 2, excited for tomorrow, go Semper!
Also, please do another one of these tournaments. We need more events like this.

what was the decision behind a 3 day event compared with a 2 day event?

Really feels like Scarlett just hasn't figured ZvT out yet.

I really feel like she needs to ditch the muta/ling/bane. I get that it's what she's comfortable with and maybe it works on ladder but it tournaments its been pretty sketchy. Usually it's because of liberators but here those weren't even a factor and she still got rolled

I agree - oddly enough m/l/b is kinda bad at dealing with multipronged harass, and can't take convincing fights vs marine/medivac/lib at all, and doesn't transition from a place of strength into the typical fast hive that is making zerg so tough these days. Ravager styles just feel way stronger right now, and a few roaches left at a base can fend off a medivac full of marines.

Starcraft with gamepad... urghh
|
No idea how anyone thought you could play rts with a N64 controller.

Man me and my buddies were ALL ABOUT THAT back in the day. Team melee against 6 bots on N64 on the TV was sooooooo good! (Basically photon cannons + tanks, turtle up and slowly push out on BGH).
|
Seemed like Masa was playing a moba there while Neeb was still playing SC2, Masa was just going HAM with his ghosts maximizing their potential. Well done! Though I was a bit worried that that was a bit all-in.
|
MaSa got some cute builds.

Only way that could be more sexy is if he got the bunker upgrade.

I'm very pleasantly surprised with the level of casting for this tournament. I've been watching all day and I really think Feardragon and Steadfast are doing a great job. One of the biggest issues I have with LANs of this nature are the poor commentating, but both of you did fantastic work and I'll definitely be tuning in for future events. Solid tournament, here's to hoping Semper can pull it off and finish with a First place trophy!

I was rooting for Scarlett, but Steadfast earned that epic comeback. Archonomatopoeia was fantastic.

I think this format favors the person coming out of the losers bracket.

Trapped a Stalker in the middle of Ulrena.

Now he's pulling da boyz.
|
The boyz dont do much when they're stuck behind FFs and the marines

SCV pulls vs any number of adepts doesn't seem really good despite tempests slow rate of fire.
|
This is why you don't pull SCVs.

Today we learned. Either way, MaSa hopefully can still take this; although I wouldn't mind a Neeb victory.

TBH tho It took Byun a long time before he even got decent results after switching.

Wasn't MaSa being overly patient during the tempest transition ? Doesn't matter since he won even with a very messy engage in the end, but still...

I heard neeb said terran is worthless :D

He's technically korean but the more Canadian dude one which I'm happy with it. Neeb still did well.
