Gone are the days where we refer to players as an "NA Ladder Hero" as a derogatory term referencing their struggle toward a goal of little meaning or value! Competition breeds ingenuity, hard work and skill! And NA Ladder Heroes is here to increase the competition!
This is a Blizzard sponsored event now as they are providing the bulk of the prize pool. Big thank you to Blizzard for supporting this project.
Stream for the monthly finals can be found on my channel: http://www.twitch.tv/feardragon64
Be sure to keep up to date with the amazing website run by Troy Pavlek.
Credit to Troy Pavlek for making the website!
NA Ladder Heroes is a system to incentivize players to give more meaning to their ladder practice. The system is split up into two parts that tie into each other. I will note that all of the values listed are the base prize pool values and may increase depending on both patreon and my own contributions to the prize pool.
1) Weekly Ladder competition
- Every(or close to every) Saturdays at 9pm PST/12:00am EST, the top 20 registered players on the North American Grandmaster list will be awarded points for finishing at the top of the ladder. Higher placement will result in more points earned. Point values will be as follows.
+ Show Spoiler +1st - 23 point 2nd - 21 point 3rd - 20 point 4th - 19 point 5th - 17 point 6th - 16 point 7th - 15 point 8th - 14 point 9th - 12 point 10th - 11 point 11th - 10 point 12th - 9 point 13th - 8 point 14th - 7 point 15th - 6 point 16th - 5 point 17th - 4 point 18th - 3 point 19th - 2 point 20th - 1 point
- The top 6 registered players will also win $50/$30/$20/$20/$15/$15 respectively for that week of the ladder competition.
2) Monthly Finals From Ladder Qualifications
- Every month, the top 12 point holders from the weekly ladder competition will be invited to a monthly tournament with a $400 prizepool. The event will take place during a single day.
- The tournament will be a single elimination with every round but the Finals being a Bo3 & the Finals being Bo5. A Bo3 3rd/4th place match will also be played before the finals.
- The top 4 players are seeded one round in(into the ro8). Seeding is done in accordance to points that qualified them.
- The tournament will pay out $200 to 1st, $75 to 2nd, $50 to 3rd, $25 to 4th. and $12.50 to 5th-8th.
- Players in the monthly finals will also earn OSC points depending on their placement as follows:
+ Show Spoiler +1st 250 OSC points 2nd 175 OSC points 3rd 100 OSC points 4th 60 OSC points 5-8th 25 OSC points each 9-12th 12.5 OSC points each
Please note this event is constantly adapting and thus, everything here is subject to change.
Players will submit registration to participate in the event. Approved players will be added to a registered players list and will be subject to banned permanently from the event if they break any of the rules.
- No Barcodes/Shared Accounts - Registered players agree to use an account that displays their real username(no barcodes) and agree that no other player or person will use the account for a ranked ladder match at any point. You also may not use name changes during the competition unless approved by me.
- Publicly Listed Players - Registered players will be publicly displayed on the website, as well as players who have been banned from participating due to rule breaks.
- Don't Be a BIG Jerk - I reserve the right to ban players from the event that show excessive levels of bm during ladder games(I will be very reasonable about this. I'm not going to ban you for dropping manner mules or offensive gg'ing. Just don't be dumb and start doing things like using racial slurs, extremely personal attacks, etc.)
- Don't Be An idiot - Players of course agree not to hack/mod/stream cheat/etc.
- Reregister if you name change - Ladder Heroes is tracked via an automated system. If you name change you need to reregister your new account name with me and justify the change.
To register, send an email to feardragon64 [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com with the the subject line "NA LADDER HEROES APPLICATION" and the following information in the body:
- Your most well known username
- A link to the battle.net account you will use for the event
- The paypal account you would like to be paid at
- A replay of at least 15 minutes in length for identity verification/hotkey analysis if accused
- The best way to reach you(skype preferred, otherwise e-mail address, etc.)
Registered Players
The Prize Money/Patreon Currently, the total prizepool between the weekly and monthly totals to $1000 per month. However, each month will actually have a slightly larger prize pool based on Patreon contributions.
With the additional funds I'm using there, I may increase the total prizepool for a particular month based on the percentage values listed above. Of course, as with everything, this is subject to change in the future and it is simply where I'm currently spending the patreon money I'm getting. If you do decide to contribute to the Patreon, the replays for the monthly finals will be available to those contributing at least $10. A link to the Patreon can be found here:
1) What About Europe/Korea/South America/SEA/Etc? I will start by saying that ALL players from ANY region are allowed and encouraged to participate, regardless of your citizenship, residency, etc. The only inherit requirement is that you of course have to be in the North's Grandmaster list. However, if you are interested in playing on the EU Server, EU Ladder Heroes has also been launched and you are free to particulate in both NA and EU Ladder Heroes. If you can place in both then more power to you.
2) Won't maphackers/win traders/etc. just win? Keep in mind every player participating *has* to register for this. A strict list will be maintained and anyone caught maphacking, win trading, cheating, etc. will be perma banned from the list and listed in the "banned" section of this thread. This is to ensure the participants able to earn any money will not be map hackers.
3) Can I play in both NA and EU Ladder Heroes? Yes! If you can keep up your ranking on multiple servers then more power to you. Just remember to register for both individually!.

Nah, there will be heavy scrutiny on the players that sign up. There are a lot of people, players included, who will make sure this is a legitimate competition that will not include any hackers.
|
Now what if you have players from other regions playing on the NA ladder and are in the top 16? IE: Miso?

|
Fuck yeah, Ravi! I can't wait! <3
|
Interesting, but will not have a lot of actual players from NA to win the prize money, and players that aren't on NA / TeamLiquid will have a hard time finding this, I will notify Miso if anyone hasn't.
|
Great idea, looks really good! Definitely will have to be on the look out for maphackers with a system like this though...
|
Feardragon's love for the NA scene is incredible - good luck with everything. I really hope you can put up an EU version of this, NA times are often unwatchable for me :/
|
I just let ex KT-Rolster Miso know, and as soon as all the other Koreans find out, this won't be much of an NA event, just EU / KR players taking the $ , but still very cool and thanks feardragon :D
|
I mean if a bunch of Koreans start playing enough to stay at the top of the NA ladder, its sounds like this event was a complete, unquestionable success.

The idea is to improve the quality of practice from the NA ladder. If a bunch of Koreans are playing on NA on a consistent basis, then I definitely consider the event to be a success.
|
Thanks for creating this, Ravi! Awesome idea
We've spread the word in the SEA region as well, to encourage some more of that #dedication.

Quick update on the website! Troy Pavlek has done some amazing work on the website and created a system you can use to track the current rankings! These updates are automated and should constantly be up to date rankings for the players participating in the NA Ladder Heroes event! Check it out here: http://www.ladderhero.es/

@Feardragon thanks for this ladder thing. It is absolutely great and really appreciate your endless grassroots efforts! Can't wait to see how this changes the dynamic of ladder
|
Just a reminder that since the new Ladder season is beginning and everyone now has a rename, now is the time to register and make sure you get GM this season to participate! Best of luck!

I forgot to post the results for Week 1 of NA Ladder Heroes last week so here's a link to the image!
Week 2 is ending today! We've already had some interesting changes in the standings over the past week that makes me happy to see the standings won't be too stagnant across the weeks. Looking forward to seeing who will stay on top!
I'll post here later tonight with the standings at the end of today(Week 2).

Really liking this style of tournament so far. Maybe if it grows big enough we can make a return to the original version of the TSL, where the top participants on the ladder qualify for the tournament? It would be harder to work out though with GM only being the top 200 on the server and Masters not having a unified ladder

drunkenboi witht he race switch

In addition, we have the first week of August ending today! So without further ado, here's week 1's victors!
Congrats to all the winners and shout out to JonSnow who managed to not only win the monthly, was busy playing in the tournament, but then went back around and laddered until he was number 1 on the ladder again for the weekly reward! What a beast.

Week 3 of August ends with Arthur and PiLiPiLi coming out on top once again! Congrats to the people earning points!
One week left to earn your points for the monthly finals! Best of luck!
|
|
This comes in a bit late since I was at Hell It's Aboot time but ladder rankings for the final week of August are out!
One correction is that PiLiPiLi ended up being ahead of JonSnow, even though battle.net wasn't updating it since it happened in the last few minutes before the ladder lock. Thus, Congrats to PiLiPiLi on first place and JonSnow on second!
This also means the final players for the August Monthly final are: 1) PiLiPiLi 2) JonSnow 3) Arthur 4) Believe 5) Bioice 6) JimRising 7) EJK 8) ClownTown
The date for the August monthly final will be announced as soon as I get availability from the players!
|
Congrats to Arthur and JonSnow on taking 1st and 2nd for the first week of September for NA Ladder Heroes!
Don't forget the August Monthly Finals is taking place tomorrow at 2pm PST and will even feature Arthur and JonSnow(as well as many others)! Hope to see you guys there!
|
Congrats to Arthur on winning the August Monthly finals! Also congrats to Bioice on taking a close 2nd and PiLiPiLi for getting 3rd place over JonSnow in the 3rd/4th place match!
|
Another congrats to PiLiPiLi and Arthur on winning Week 2 of September!
|
Arthur and Pili claim another victorious week!
|
Congrats to PiLiPiLi and Hitman for taking 1st and 2nd this week! This also concludes the qualifications for the September monthly finals!
I'll have the official list of who qualified for the monthly soon as I'm currently out of town for Twitchon. I will be contacting those who qualified shortly as well! Here is the quick and dirty list: 1)Pilipili 71 2)Arthur 70 3)Jonsnow 64 4)Hitman 48 5)JimRising 46 6)EJK 42 7)Bioice 39 8)ClownTown 38
ALSO IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Due to the upcoming release of Legacy of the Void, NA Ladder Heroes will be on a short 2 month Hiatus for October and November. We'll be coming back in December with a vengeance though!
|
|
With Legacy of the Void launched and the GM Ladder for NA already being out, Ladder Heroes will be returning soon! Remember it's never too late(or too early) to register! If you've previously registered, you should be set but remember if you ever name change you will need to notify me of the name change!
The first week of Ladder Heroes LotV will end on Saturday December 5th at 9pm PST, midnight eastern! Hope to see you guys there. Happy laddering!
|
Became a Patreon for this, let's see some ladder!

Hey everyone! Sorry I forgot to post the standings for last week's ladder lock! So here comes two weeks worth of ladder locks in one post!
For the first week of December it was:
Congrats to Neeb and puCK for leading the charge for Protoss on NA!
And for THIS week(week 2) we have:
Once again Neeb and puCK in first and 2nd place! However the rest of the standings have shifted quite a bit. Great to see so many people getting involved in the competition. See you all next week!
|
Hey! We have the final ladder lock fir December! Congrats to Neeb and puCK for getting 1st and 2nd every week for December!
And that means the players who qualified for the monthly final are: Neeb puCK JonSnow Guitarcheese PiLiPiLi JimRising Drunkenboi Huk
Congrats again! I'll announce the date for the monthly finals soon.
|
Ok date for the Monthly finals has been settled! It'll take place on January 16th at 3pm PST! If you're interested in seeing the bracket, you can find it here: http://challonge.com/NALadderHeroesDecember2015
Don't forget that the first ladder lock for January starts tomorrow!
|
Two big things! One, the first week of Ladder Heroes for January is over. Here are the results:
Second, we have good news! Ladder Heroes is partnering with OSC and will have a bigger prizepool every month and yield OSC points! With this announcement, starting in February, Ladder Heroes will have the top 12 players qualify for the monthly instead of the top 8. The top 4 players will be seeded to have a bye for the first round as a reward for being at the top. As such, the point system will change as well.
The OSC Point distribution for the monthly finals will be as follows: 1st 250 OSC points 2nd 175 OSC points 3rd 100 OSC points 4th 60 OSC points 5-8th 25 OSC points each 9-12th 12.5 OSC points each
The new point distribution for Ladder Heroes weekly to qualify for the monthly will be: + Show Spoiler +1st - 23 point 2nd - 21 point 3rd - 20 point 4th - 19 point 5th - 17 point 6th - 16 point 7th - 15 point 8th - 14 point 9th - 12 point 10th - 11 point 11th - 10 point 12th - 9 point 13th - 8 point 14th - 7 point 15th - 6 point 16th - 5 point 17th - 4 point 18th - 3 point 19th - 2 point 20th - 1 point
January will continue as normal and these changes will start in February. I'm still looking into the exact date the new season will start so February may be a short month for Ladder Heroes but stay tuned for more details!
|
Due to everyone being booted out of Grandmaster League today, I've decided to push back the next ladder lock by one week. This means the new dates for the ladder lock will be Jan 16th, 23rd, and 30th. No ladder lock will happen on Jan 9th.
Thanks and happy laddering!
|
|
Curse ye ladder reset! GMs full so I'm locked out >.<. Next time!

Neebs focus firing has been off this series. He almost killed so many units.
|
There it is again. He almost killed 2 phoenixes.
|
Can't believe no one vetoed central protocol. Maybe its not that bad for ZvP.
|
Neeb donates 2 immortals in mid-game, still wins without breaking a sweat. Sounds about right.

But congrats to Neeb! He takes 1st place in the Monthly finals today! puCK takes a VERY close 2nd place in some insanely great macro PvP games with JonSnow taking 3rd against PiLiPiLi.
Ladder lock for the 2nd week of January is in an hour as well! Thanks to everyone who tuned in today.

Qualifications are restricted to NA players. If an already qualified player or an ineligible player ends up winning the event, the spot will go to the next highest placing eligible player.
Lots on the line for the NA ladder in February. OSC Points, an offline tournament invite, and the same good old prize pool! Best of luck!
|
Congrats to Hydra and Neeb on getting 1st and 2nd in Ladder Heroes for the first week of February! Top 20 received points. Remember this is a short month so there's only 3 ladder locks this week. See you next week!

For record keeping sake, here was the results from the 2nd week of ladder heroes!
Remember that the third(and final week) for February is ending on Friday not saturday! The monthly finals will happen on Saturday with the extra prizes of the Kings of the North qualification as well as the GaunletSC2 Season 1 finals qualification! And of course, OSC points and top 12 in the bracket instead of top 8. Lots of big changes with more on the line! Good luck in your last week of laddering.

Sorry for the super delayed response. DH Austin did not delay ladder heroes besides making the monthly finals for April very annoying to schedule.
Also here are the results from the first 2 weeks of May. April monthly finals is being scheduled now that players are back from Dreamhack and will likely be on April 30th.

tomorrow looks like the actual tournament event for NA

Ah oops didn't see that, thanks.

Correct! Doing replays tonight and live monthly finals are going to be tomorrow! EU finals are also happening on Sunday.

It's been a little while but BIG update. Ladder Heroes is going back to ranking players by POINTS rather than by MMR. After 2 months and a LOT of feedback from players, we decided we didn't want to rank players by mmr due to the loose activity requirements and the fact that the system incentives players to not play. While the point system has its own flaws, I hope it'll create a better competition regardless.
TRACK THE NEW STANDINGS OVER ON THE LADDER HEROES WEBSITE SINCE YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO USE GRANDMASTER IN GAME TO SEE THE STANDINGS! http://www.ladderhero.es
This change is effective immediately and will affect all of September Ladder Heroes for both NA and EU.

So after seeing your posts about the issue, I was kinda wondering about how to change the system for Ladder Heroes.
The "goal" of ladder heroes is to incentivize playing on NA/EU at a high level, right? The MMR change actually just hurt that goal, as it rewarded sitting at a certain MMR rank and not playing anymore.
Do you think it's possible to still use MMR, but give a bonus to games played? Say we take the MMR as a base rating, but for every game played you add something like 5 points? The number of points a game itself would be worth would have to be fiddled with, maybe, but it would encourage playing more games.
And heck, if someone wanted to play 300 games in order to gather points, well, goal achieved?

And heck, if someone wanted to play 300 games in order to gather points, well, goal achieved? I thought a lot about this. Was there something I could do with the MMR system with minimum games played or bonuses for games played. Ultimately all the systems I came up either felt like band aid solutions(create a minimum game requirement and that becomes the exact number of games players will play), or overly complex solutions(how motivating is a system is most players don't bother to understand it?).
I also didn't want to just straight reward games played because the system is meant to target and incentivize high level players who would otherwise practice on another server more often, thereby giving mid/lower tier player a trickle down benefit of better practice. I don't think points is a perfect system, but I think it is a better system than what I can come up with via MMR. I may also factor in additional changes in the coming months with the point system.
