That actually feels a lot like his old games, though still missing his old sharpness. Same razor-thin builds, meticulous micro (sometimes overly so) etc.

It's not the first time Nerchio refuses to make upgrades. I'm guessing he skipped them to make more units but it's weird to see a Zerg make Greater Spire before Evolution Chamber.

The way that game played out had quite a lot to do with the opening I would say, both of them were fairly low econ because of it. Nerchio sacrificed a decent amount of resources to early lings and speed, and nani had to get a super late natural because of how defensive he had to be.

upgrades were a big deal, but the obvious difference maker from game 1 were the sentries. puny nerchio has no chance if naniwa makes sentries

at the time he would have had to make the evo chambers, he had to make something happen because he was behind. Later on, tech gamble > upgrading from behind with an inferior composition. Made absolutely sense that he never started upgrades with how the game went.
