I 4gated my way through about 3 seasons of gold, it works well.
Not that it's much better when I play 1v1s now, I've won every single PvZ in the last 2 seasons with the same 2 base 3 void ray attack. A simple, clean build - whether it's cheese or not - will most of the time be enough to win games if you can execute it well enough.
