Actually think Nony might play great based on the fact that he should not be able to win, it's JD. If he had been up against someone else he might have had more of a "I have to win, I should win"-mindset. I feel like if Nony actually put blink stalkers in Jaedong's main, got charge and hit around the right with chargelots and the like, he'd actually be doing OK here. Not that he can break the swarm hosts very well, but that's a lot of territory for swarm hosts to defend without much else to speak of.

That was really well played from Nony. Other than a few questionable fights and his observer control, he played pretty fantastic. There were at least 3 or 4 times he could have straight up won if he didn't lose his obs.

Problem with teching up is that you are basically forced into not being active, which gives the zerg the freedom to bank infinity resources. Making the call between trying to make something happen with stalker/colossus and playing passive and teching is pretty tough. Nony actually made the right decision imo, but he needed better execution.

I agree. It would have been much closer if 5 observers didn't die to sporecrawlers. Especially the first time when the 2 died he could have killed off a couple of the swarmhosts before backing off

Oh come on now, his corruptor count was actually really low. He utilized roaches for remaxing to hold pushes/harassment and used infestors to great effect. The vipers didn't have a huge impact but to say he only used SH and corruptors is a little misleading

Ehhh I feel with gas heavy tech it is a perfect opportunity to go for mineral heavy harassment, whether by zealot runbys or warp prism. In that game Nony was actually up a base on JD for a bit there, having his whole half of the map taken. What if instead there was a warp prism in the main and a few zealots warped in at bottom right? I know, I know, easier said then done, but it buys the protoss time and can stop the zerg from "banking infinity resources" while you tech

Honestly I think he should have dropped a fleet beacon ages ago when he had like 4k-2k just because you can either think of getting some tempests or be ready for a muta switch. the question i always ask myself in these situations is why does the zerg keep building ultras after the first wave? i don't think i have ever seen it work unless protoss literally has zero income to build immortals
this reminds me of a game from last year, i forget who was playing... maybe hyun and someone? it was on whirlwind and had a lot of this weird lowish econ ultralisk stuff going on and the zerg lost in the end. it got a lot of votes as one of the best games of the year at the time

Awkward engagement when Jaedong was trying to move up the ramp. Jaedong got his Queens Graviton Beam'd and Ultras trapped on the ramp while Stalkers and Immortals were shooting away.

every single queen was caught off creep and away from the ultras by nony's entire army while the ultras were stuck up a ramp
Also Nony was fully upgraded while Jaedong only had +1 attack.

That moment in game 3 when NoNY cancelled the Nexus as the Mutalisks flew by was so hilarious for some reason it made me laugh for like 2-3 minutes and got especially funnier when i saw a comment in the comments section saying ''that probe shat itself''

I think the longest game I ever ran an LR for was Gumiho vs Losira actually I might have only been typing up LR that day. Not sure if I managed the OP or not. that whole series was long though

That happened once not too long ago. A new guy made the OP but then he PMed me the night before and said he thought the finals was on a different date and couldn't update the OP anymore so I had to use my banling powers to update the OP for him instead

I missed the beginning but I believe there was also a resume from replay or regame or something from HerO saying his keyboard not working which was true. Then I think Impact held an all in but HerO killed him in with a follow up attack

Well HerO was playing versus Impact and i believe the score was 1-1 and when it was time to put down his natural in the game he had placed Zealots on the ramp before and put them on hold posistion and couldnt get his probe down to place the nexus and went up to 900 minerals + then he paused the game said his keyboard malfunctioned and thats why he couldnt get his probe down and asked to redo the game. At that point people went crazy and said he was lying that it malfunctioned and just didnt want to lose and some diehard fan of HerO on here went like ''Why would he lie? HerO is x10 times the player Impact is so he has no reason to lie'' and people started saying ''x10'' to stuff after that

i was curious why he didn't take the bottom base, but i'm not a protoss player and i haven't played many zvps on merry go round this season
Not only for that Violet series, but just for his utter lack of doing anything in Premier, Top needs to go now. Kane, do not let NA down. The record of North Americans vs. Non-North Americans in WCS America Challenger so far this season is NA 4 - World 2 (map score, 13-6). We've got to keep this up.
You should edit the part about how they are so high-level back in, I think it was accurate. Just look at how good the game Nony won was compared to the other three in the series!

Doesn't mean much Stephano etc. Even notwithstanding that particular outlier/liar when it comes to practice a more relaxed approach can help you perform, your skills don't disappear overnight and the mentality may help.

haha, i probably couldn't disagree with you more, i'm not too big on any of those guys as casters at all (i find day9 very annoying and tastosis are just ok imo) and rotterdam is pretty much the definition of "contagious and enticing spirit" to me. he's just always smiling, laughing, cracking dumb jokes and having a good time if he's ever gotten grumpy or bad mannered while casting i definitely wasn't watching that day

This is a pretty smart opener from Top, wouldn't rely on it mind but pretty cool. Everything has additional utility, so cool! Warp Prism to Maynard to the island and then is used offensively with those Immortals, with the double Stargate to prevent Mutas reigning havoc
i would have liked a spore crawler at the natural. the airspace around it is so incredibly open and frustrating to deal with (i'm ashamed to admit i've had my natural sniped by mass void ray gimmicks on this map before)

The threat of Mutas I feel will deter Terrans from taking it too early unless they went Mech and know the Zerg is going Roach/Hydra or Swarm Hosts and a Muta transition is unlikely.

it's a good ninja base in TvT too because it seems like people don't check for it all the time. Just look at Maru vs Flash in GSL GC. Maru moves his 3rd there because it was too risky to take the one on the main part of the map. Flash has a dropship nearby dropping the natural but misses scouting the island like 4 times giving Maru a huge econ edge.

DAMMIT! Now Top will be back in Premier to do weak 1-2 base attacks that get stopped incredibly easily, finish last in his group, and waste everyone's time, like he does every season.

Unfortunate series for Kane. He completely outclassed Top in the macro games, but reacted poorly to the pylon wall and the 7 gate and then got unlucky in game 5.

I don't think he got unlucky in game 5. He chose a 9pool on a huge map, didn't scout well, and didn't react properly to the 4gate.

This is why ZvZ in HotS is worse than PvP. Now that PvP is greatly improved, the early game of ZvZ is still similar, where you can easily hide how many drones and scouting, to do quick all-in

Good effort from both players. Didn't expect Guitarcheese to play so evenly in some games against a player seen as one of the strongest foreigner Zergs around, his wins against Symbol were not any flukes.
Final score of North Americans versus Non-North Americans in Challenger: 4-4 in matches, 17-12 in maps. Respectable in most leagues. And I don't think anyone should be faulted for losing to the likes of HerO, Jaedong, or Sen.

This day is the kind of day that just makes us all love Starcraft. If games were always the same builds, the same responses, and we knew every way it can look in the late game, then it wouldn't be the entertaining game we all know and love.
I want NesTea to either retire with grace and find a new role in SC2, or to come out as a new man and beast it up making us ashamed we ever doubted him. But anything in-between would be just a disappointment.
Its weird that iaguz proxied the two raxes at different locations. In fact I'd call it a mistake. Two raxes next to each other allows the SCVs to support each other against drones and are harder to scout. I'll take slightly more time to get there half the time, but its worth it.

WoL strats oh wow. I remember good old Roach rushes when they were one supply with two armor, all-ins all the time off one or two base (back when going three base was near unthinkable) and abusing the cliff on Lost Temple.

Ok so TheBest vs Min was this one game where TheBest went for a marine banshee thor with scvs pulled to buffer and repair attack on Crossfire. Min defended it at least twice if I remember right with TheBest finally breaking through on his 3rd marine thor banshee scv pull attack. people were raging so hard

I'm pretty sure I used to dislike Rotti b/c of the accent (yes, yes, that's unfair, sorry, 'murica, etc...), but I've been listening to him forever all week solocasting and it's been really quite enjoyable and impressive. Can't imagine how difficult it must be to be running this entire thing by yourself.

What a great day of games! I had a lot of fun watching them. Rotterdam is amazing for casting them all. Also thank you to KingofdaHipHop for doing a great job with keeping up this thread!
