lichter's notes: I am currently writing a FAQ for LR threads, to be included at the bottom of each LR. Mostly I want it to address questions regarding LR threads, as well as questions about becoming LR OPs. Please look through the FAQ and PM me with ideas to improve it. TY!
Volunteer! All you have to do is check if there's already a thread for the tournament, or if anyone is scheduled to make the thread. If there isn't a thread and no one is scheduled to do it, you can become the LR OP! We are always looking for new people to help out, especially for WCS AM and EU.
Being the LR thread OP is hard work, but it's also fulfilling. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people check the LR thread every day, and it is a valuable resource to the community. It's a simple way of supporting SC2, the game we all presumably love :p
Now that I've decided to be a LR OP, what do I do? + Show Spoiler +
Next, read up a little on bbcode and familiarize yourself with it. It helps to look at the code for previous LR OPs.
Finally, check your schedule. Are you SURE you'll be around for the duration of the tournament? Are you sure you'll be able to update in a timely manner?
If everything checks out and you've done all of the above, all you have to do is make the thread!
Where can I find previous LR OPs, as well as LR resources? + Show Spoiler +
LRing is tough work, and only a handful of people do it regularly. The most famous ones are Shellshock and The_Templar, but occasionally other people (such as packrat, Yello, etc) do it as well. If no one is available to do it, then there is no LR. Again, we need more volunteers. Anyone who watches games regularly and types really, really fast has qualifications to become an LRer.
All you have to do is write out what happens during the game. It doesn't need to be complete, but it should be a good summary of the entire game. Supply counts, timings, build orders, and major events are typically what receive priority in LRs. You can read more LRs by Shellshock and The_Templar for a better idea of how to do it.
Can I submit a new banner, player photos, or other images? + Show Spoiler +
Yes! We encourage creativity in LR threads, so if you want to submit some fancy stuff and replace the premade ones, go right ahead.
Who do I contact if I have questions about LR threads? + Show Spoiler +

Fashion statement. I'm a jacket hipster and only buy high end products like north face and I always laugh at them for paying double the amount for a jacket that isn't even close in quality

Standard openers for both players. MMA goes for reapers and Starbuck goes for hatch first and 4 queens. MMA will do a great job at scouting (he saw Sbuck's third base) and harassing. However, his reapers will almost get surrounded by drones and zerglings. This opens a way for the hellions. 13 drones down. At 11:00 MMA will push with marines, medivacs and the hellions that are left. A zergling runby will happen, which will go to the main. MMA will clean this up and he will do large damage to Sbuck's army. For the next minutes, MMA will drop continuously the zerg player. And at the 15th minute, he will go with marines, mines and the support of medivacs. He goes for the third. Sbuck has got banelings but it's not enough. GG. MMA takes game 1.
On September 28 2013 01:25 zeratul_jf wrote: MMA stealing innovation's skill. There can only be one terran
More like the consequences of his bbq (eco graph, red = MMA, blue = Starbuck) without even losing Hellions. Starbuck didn't reach 65 drones in the game.

MMA goes for reapers again. Starbuck goes hatch/gas/pool. Reaper gets two drones, doesn't care of Sbuck's nice control. MMA starts hellion production. However, the zerg player takes a roach warren at the 6:40 mark. He takes a third as well, which is probably a fake. A baneling nest has been popped. With the hellions, MMA reads well what's happening and will throw down more bunkers. Attacking at the 10:00 mark. MMA holds, but will lose a large part of his wall. Going for a macro game. MMA dropping the third and Sbuck going to the main with glings. The third barely survived. MMA has his third base right now. 14:30, MMA attacks the natural. Not enough army to hold. Banelings get decimated by a mine. GG, MMA advances to the winner's match !

Yeah, I´m out later and thus not able to provide rightful critism then, so I thought, that I rather do it now than never.

God, I didn't know there were people in favor of the extendet series rule...
Extended series? No, that would be even worse. RR for all groups.
Let's leave the group format discussion at the door.
You are right, there is no reason to do it now. I just needed to correct a false impression I left with my previous comment, since it apperently got read as pro-ES.

How can you make such an un-bold prediction? You're the edgy hipster writer!
MMA will finish before the guy finishing after duckdeok while duckdeok will finish ahead of the guy finishing third behind MMA who also happens to finish right in third over the guy behind him, Starbuck, who'll end up in the place 2 places behind second

I too remember RoX meaning Radical Online eXtremists or something like that, can't remember from where or when either.
According to Liquipedia RoX means : "Russian Society of Cybersport". The initials become ROCS in the Latin alphabet, which gives the name RoX. KIS is the acronym of the sponsor Kaspersky Internet Security.

It can´t hurt to get a stargate vs such a heavy coloss commiment from duckdeok, but I´d prefer Tempests over Void-Rays.

On September 28 2013 02:15 Zheryn wrote: How did Titan lose his advantage? Looked like he was doing really good harassing while being way ahead in eco :S
there was a time warp in the middle of the map, where Titan lost 12 supply for free and PvP is about army supply mostly, worker kills due to harassment doesn't matter if you lose units for it. But that timewarp was the moment where the game tilted in duckdeoks favor, since he had the Colossus advantage on even supply.

I confuse them as well. Maybe because they are both EU koreans that got a big win around the same time.
On September 28 2013 02:20 purgerinho wrote: to make it short: killing probes makes no sense (46 - 3 and he died) in pvp
Well, he did sacrifice a lot of zealots for it. Titan was losing more resources. So DD just spent money remaking probes while Titan spent minerals of zealots. So the probe killing was more or less evened out.
On September 28 2013 02:20 purgerinho wrote: to make it short: killing probes makes no sense (46 - 3 and he died) in pvp
That's not accurate, killing probes doesn't imply that you're going to lose your whole army barely killing his unimportant units the moment when you engage him.
On September 28 2013 02:20 purgerinho wrote: to make it short: killing probes makes no sense (46 - 3 and he died) in pvp
Thing is that the most massive amount of dead probes happened at the end of the game. That never really had a chance to enter into the game. Duckdeok had the army but not the eco (necessarily anyway). Without an MSC to recall with, or running the colossi he's dead as a dodo.
What would've happened if, in the beginning stages of the last game, the proxy pylon wasn't put down in sight of the MSC? Duckdeok would've been much later with the nexus cancel and the extra gates, leaving Titan even further ahead.

Not a good game 3 by Titan. I feel he could beat duckdeok in the final match after duck loses to MMA, but I don't think he will beat Starbuck in the losers anyway so I don't think it matters.
On September 28 2013 02:45 VayneAuthority wrote: why did both players have like 2k minerals when they weren't even maxed...that was a very bad game =(
It is Protoss, their units build in 5 seconds. And the 1,5k bank of duckdeok went into a Zealot mass at the main of Titan. Resources over 1k are natural for Protoss starting around the midgame.

I think Duckdeok wanted ~180 supply only to be able to warp in to harass main and natural while attacking.
As for Titan, he was heavily supply blocked at 158/158. So sloppy play I'd say!
duckdeok had /190 supply, he could have never maxed XD
Ok, then he was a bit sloppy!
On September 28 2013 02:48 Doublemint wrote: Yes, however mass zealots and fast remax on them won't do you that good of a service against Colossi and Archons.
He wants to warp in the zealots where Titan's main army is not, so colossus and archons aren't that big of a problem vs them.

no excuse just explaining Sc2 Protoss, and I found the game pretty good. Titan did alot of crisis management and cut corners everywhere in order to survive, but Duckdeok never let it happen.

no targetfire on the Oracles was a big mistake. But he underestimated the Oracles anyway. Bunkerbusting like Voids + melting the Marines afterwards is evil.
It's a shame MMA didn't make a second bunker to the natural, giving time for the marines in the main to join up into the fight. It could have been his game.

Wrong, but okay.
explain your statement pls.
MMA didn't lose because of CC first, he died because he scouted too late the proxy oracle and no 2nd base. CC first gives a lot of marines actually, it's fine versus oracles as soon as you scout it.

It doesn't mean inability if a pro cheeses. That analogy might have been correct in 2011
No i mean the games where he macroed hes been crushed horribly, so he goes for cheese like 80% of the times.
must be quiet skilled then if you can cheese 80% of the time and win so much. As you play builds 80% of the time, that lose instantly when they get scouted and just have a 50/50 chance to win if they don't.

probably it gives your rines, but you are vulnerable to every 1 base agression a toss could throw at you. i think it's very risky t ogo cc first on a two player map and i am always happy when a terran does this against me but in the oracle case you're probably right.

Actually, I think MMA knew it was proxy oracles once he scouted Duckdeok's main. He scouted the bunker bust too late.

I don't know what he was thinking leaving nothing back at home. Terran will do that every time, little bio armies just demolish undefended bases in no time.
It wasn't a drop at All, he simply pushed with the units left from the "Drop Try" and simply roflstopmed all entering by the main door because Finale went with all his army trying to finish the game, knowing there was still 30 Supply near his expas. The drops did almost nothing, they were near to lost the game for MMA when Templars got positioned and Stalkers blinked.
Anyway, no Storm and no Range? Well... so sad if MMA lose to something like that =/
Oh and players like MMA, ForGG, Nani, etc. will be hoping for Soulkey to take out Rain to deny him more points (not to mention hoping for Rain to not win the consolation bracket) as Rain now has 2750 points and is tied for 13th with Naniwa.

ForGG is still playing at IEM, so he can still get more points.
I know but if MMA goes to Season Final it wil be very hard for ForGG to go to Blizzcon.
Depends on who else does what. He still has an opportunity to pass players like Maru, Rain, etc. If they drop out of Code S and he does well at IEM. Keep the faith!

Well theoretically, if Rain/Nani/MC/Maru all earn no more points in this WCS season (Maru drops from ro16 tomorrow, Nani doesn't do well at IEM, Rain loses to Soulkey/loses consolation, and MC loses in ro8 + consolation) a top 4 finish will put him in 12th ahead of all of those players.
But yeah at least top 4 at IEM for ForGG is a necessity.

I guess it's already over for ForGG
Well if you look at the current players who are in the tournament, he could potentially get top 4. I mean, he did get top 8 at a very stacked DH. It all depends on who else is invited/qualifies.

Well they invite four from the top of WCS rankings. It's fairly likely that Soulkey will decline, so the top four that would go would probably be Innovation, Jaedong, Bomber, and Taeja. So yeah, stacked tournament

Well then their invites being based on WCS points is BS as Flash is 45th... and those top four seem likely to be sent by their teams if they are invited. Jaedong got dat EG money, Liquid sends their players everywhere, Bomber has been to many foreign tourneys and Startale sent two players to DH, and Acer would likely send Innovation.

Bad decision making there by Starbuck, not keeping his mutas back to shut down Titan's attack.
There's such a stark difference between two mid-tier foreigners playing each other (even if they're about equal), and two higher tier Koreans playing each other.
What is twitch doing taking away and putting back the low option every now and then. Knowing when it's back by seeing the lag notification pop up is kinda funny though.
Starbuck's nerves might be catching up to him, he looked much better in Ro32. Even if he ends up losing here, still great potential. Also I think Titan might beat the duck

If he truly only cheesed/all inned, then wouldn't he be an easy opponent to scout and beat? But he ended up winning the season. IMO that points to some ingenuity and style.

Theres so many cheeses you can do as protoss that its almost impossible to see which one of them is coming. I dont find it being ingenious randomly deciding which of these 20 cheeses/allins youre going to do.

If that really was an easy way to win, wouldn't more Protoss players do it then? I don't think he just drew strats from a hat and that's the cheese he did, I think a lot more planning went into it than you think.

I feel like if you told Artosis about that study showing that Starcraft is good for the brain, he'd probably say he's known that for 15 years (not that I'd doubt him, just find it funny). I wish I could get more people interested in SC2. All WoW friends play LoL, dota, or d3 when not WoW. Maybe that sale will help.
As to that last game, Titan followed the Day9 rule about when your opponent is doing lots of weird funky/cutesy stuff. Just go kill him.

People will complain about anything and everything.
But I can't help but feel that they won't be quite so vocal when a foreigner beats a Korean rather than the other way around.
If TitaN wins 2-0 there won't be much to say. :p
I'm afraid I don't follow that logic. The thing people were complaining about was that a player who lost he first match and went through the losers side then beat the player they had previously lost to. I don't see how map score matters...
The complains are when they win one series each but the one with the 2-3 mapscore advances.
Well they complained about SD in ro32 and ro16 and his mapscore against Kas and Welmu was 2-2 in both cases.
I don't understand Titan's build. He managed to remain hidden (very lucky, the probe was one hex from seeing it) and faced a 2 gas no zealot protoss, but still didn't do any significant damage. What was he hoping for? :s

Kas had to play the BossToss while Stardust didn't so it's a legit complain.

If it is the same this season it'll be:
Targa vs. Nerchio Vortix vs. Duckdeok
Genius vs. MC MMA vs. Stardust
I agree.
At least one foreigner will go to the RO4 if it's like this.

Yeah I was going to mention that all the foreigners would be on one side of the bracket. If Titan had beaten Duckdeok, it couldve been an all foreigner top half of the bracket, and an all Korean bottom half, guaranteeing a Foreigner finalist.

Considering it's a 50% chance, it's highly likely. If Nerchio and MMA were to get either both first or both second place in their respective RO16 group, then there would've been 0% chance of teamkill.

Considering no MC vs Genius I'm okay with a re draw!
The only one I'm having trouble predicting is the last one... two Koreans in a PvP Genius looked fucking good in his group but the Duck proved he has some solid PvP today so slight edge to Duckdeok but if Genius wins it's not really an upset imo..
MMA couldn't hold off some schloppy duckduck cheese. If the finals is actually MMA vs genius I really doubt MMA would win...genius all-ins are much more crisp and his failure to make bunkers or react at all would put him at a disadvantage vs a player like that.
MMA just needs to run into only standard players and he's golden lol

MMA has done pretty well holding off Protoss cheeses this tournament. The loss to duckdeok on map 1 was when he went CC first.
