lichter's notes: I am currently writing a FAQ for LR threads, to be included at the bottom of each LR. Mostly I want it to address questions regarding LR threads, as well as questions about becoming LR OPs. Please look through the FAQ and PM me with ideas to improve it. TY!
Volunteer! All you have to do is check if there's already a thread for the tournament, or if anyone is scheduled to make the thread. If there isn't a thread and no one is scheduled to do it, you can become the LR OP! We are always looking for new people to help out, especially for WCS AM and EU.
Being the LR thread OP is hard work, but it's also fulfilling. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people check the LR thread every day, and it is a valuable resource to the community. It's a simple way of supporting SC2, the game we all presumably love :p
Now that I've decided to be a LR OP, what do I do? + Show Spoiler +
Next, read up a little on bbcode and familiarize yourself with it. It helps to look at the code for previous LR OPs.
Finally, check your schedule. Are you SURE you'll be around for the duration of the tournament? Are you sure you'll be able to update in a timely manner?
If everything checks out and you've done all of the above, all you have to do is make the thread!
Where can I find previous LR OPs, as well as LR resources? + Show Spoiler +
LRing is tough work, and only a handful of people do it regularly. The most famous ones are Shellshock and The_Templar, but occasionally other people (such as packrat, Yello, etc) do it as well. If no one is available to do it, then there is no LR. Again, we need more volunteers. Anyone who watches games regularly and types really, really fast has qualifications to become an LRer.
All you have to do is write out what happens during the game. It doesn't need to be complete, but it should be a good summary of the entire game. Supply counts, timings, build orders, and major events are typically what receive priority in LRs. You can read more LRs by Shellshock and The_Templar for a better idea of how to do it.
Can I submit a new banner, player photos, or other images? + Show Spoiler +
Yes! We encourage creativity in LR threads, so if you want to submit some fancy stuff and replace the premade ones, go right ahead.
Who do I contact if I have questions about LR threads? + Show Spoiler +
One thing to note is ForGG's current WCS ranking :
#16 (2450 points)
So right now he is the limit for Blizzcon entrance, but with 3 regions RO8+ and Season Finals after that, he won't make it if he doesn't get more points here

He can always hope for inconsistency from guys below him ^_^ Also: Genius 4 0 Showtime 4 4 to advance
I'm thankful that I cannot watch ForGG tonight because after seeing Goswser and Babyknight losing yesterday, my heart cannot take another disappointment.

I wonder if Twitch VODs give no revenue or so bad revenue that content producers use only Youtube now. Everybody starts doing that and it is pretty annoying sometimes.

He can if he wins IEM NY. But that's not the easy way to go to BlizzCon, obviously.
Come on ForGG, you can't fail today. You just can't.
Going 1 rax into 3CC and neglecting upgrades obviously leaves ForGG with a huge army. Very risky build by ForGG though, would have one hell of a time holding off any colossus all in.

I remember him doing it all the time, for some reason nobody collosi all-ins him :D

Yes but does Showtime have the BALLS to colossus all in him?

I remember seeing only 1 collosi all-in against ForGG ever: by Welmu and ForGG did held it (did not play that build though).
Weird ideas from ForGG, but Showtimes greed paid off! Hope ForGG doesn't check that replay though, because there was a timing when he couldve busted that wide open.

Storms kept him alive when he was rebuilding his collosi count and those archons tanked like mother fuckers in that last fight. A couple emps in that fight and it goes VERY differently...

lol. how did they not help? they stormed like 8 vikings twice during fights and the collossi stood there and killed everything else. templars were key here.

he would do the same without storms, but with archons and stalkers. And i am not sure what would be faster.

What ? Showtime afk for 20min ?? He had huge trouble defending when ForGG pushed the 3rd base, it was really tensed then there were agression from Showtime.... Stop saying bullshit

EMP's still really good on the army anyway, especially clumps of chargelots.
2 volleys from blue flame hellbats > 1 emp.
However, the emps can be "free damage" meaning the ghosts can do it and not die. No way do hellbats get close enough to a protoss army without getting immediately dusted by the Colossi.

It was tense, but in the end Showtime traded 3rd nexus, 1 collosi and some gateway trash for a large chunk of army.

Chargelots charge to hellbats, not the other way around.

Because EMP's don't hurt pretty much negate archons either right?? With EMP it would have only been stalkers to fight the vikings meaning they would not die nearly as fast plus EMP wipes out shields for chargelots and owns archons...

I meant against forgg's style. Not general TvP style. And yes, with emp it would be *just* MMMVG against deathball.

5 Hellbats are not better than 10 ghosts in that situation... Consider Archons/Templar/and the Zealots. Ghosts give ForGG many more options to get an advantage in the fight rather than the Hellbats.
gg wp by ShowTime though, ForGG just has more experience than him and clearly knew how to react. But I think we will see more of ShowTime in the future!

Ghosts fry the chargelots :3?
Taking out chargelots shield helps immensely, mix that with being able to emp archons/templars and Ghost are 100X more effective then hellbats in that situation.

Foreigner wins, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Korean Wins, Bad game do not watch.
#nobias.
I think a large part of it is that underdog victories are seen as exciting, but we rarely have Korean underdogs (no one is going to fly them out, and they will never succeed in a Korean qualification). Also if we know something about the player's personality we tend to root for him (not really relevant here, but often we know foreigners better than Koreans). In addition in this case game 2 was probably the most interesting.
I'm really proud of ForGG doing the interview on his own. His English has improved and it shows amazing courage to speak on a public platform. I've been learning Korean for about a year and I feel HORRENDOUSLY nervous speaking even the basic Korean with native Korean speakers. Props to him.

Yeah it was actually quite good. He obviously mostly constructed simple sentences and misused certain terms slightly (three vs third most notably), but if you paid attention you could understand what he meant the whole time, which is more than you can say for most Koreans, even among the ones who try to speak English.

hahahhaha. one smart man once wrote, for a human to integrate into a culture, what the koreans are clearly trying to do here, he needs to put very much effort into it, but also it needs effort to be putted by the society. so we better try hard to understand what they say and not jump on every mistake they do. experts are not made in a day

That's what I like to hear. Funny story, I went through a phase where I went CC first in all my TvZ's and if I got early pooled and died instead of GG I would type Yolo.

mYI isn't that new iirc, their SC2 division only recently started gaining steam. I don't think that he fits the Liquid profile for a new player though.
Rofl. Has Nerchio been playing on the NA ladder? What was that mindless shit he thought he was going to do. I say going to do, because he got so crushed that Genius might as well have been playing a build order bot.

Both of those teams seem like pretty decent fits for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him going to either of those places.
Poor Genius never had a stable team since leaving MVP. He's a GSL finalist who only seems to want a good environnement to play and give good results when motivated. Yet everyone turning him down. :/

He did join Slayers when it was on life-support. I'm pretty confused by this as well as the only criticism I've heard of Genius is that he tends to slack off (but when he's on he's a contender).

They have a translator living in Cologne now? I don't understand how this can be profitable, given the studio (rent in Cologne isn't cheap), appartements for Apollo, Kaelaris and guests, wages for the casters and the staff etc. And all this without running a single ad at all.

Genius was in like 15 code S tournaments. Made several deep runs. Was a steady contributor in GSTL for MVP. And basically always top top korean when he really got his mind into the game and practiced.

It's SK's manager reis.
So? Surely he doesn't do this for free. Even if they didn't have a translator, I don't understand how they fund this league.

Give the guy a little credit. Making a GSL finals takes a lot of skill considering the tournament is over a length of time and if you are gimicky you usually get figured out before the end. Plus he went through Seed, sOs, Polt, Parting, and Ryung. Of course he is still the arch villian of WoL, but you can't say he was entirely "random"

See, there is NO reason to count OSL and GSL ^^
Well I like to think we're counting the WCS because last GSL qualified for first WCS. And then first WCS qualified for second WCS, which is why I want to count it as well. It's not about companies, it's about continuity.

No its not,

Because round robin makes the same playerpool invalid. Sure
it's not about invalid, it's about being different. i don't say that the tournament sucks now, but it's different compared to gsl, therefore i don't count that.

There is. They have the same qualification system which is basically Code A. If you do well in OSL, you qualify for GSL and the other way around. The player cast is the same. For WCS Korea 2012 everybody started from scratch and had to qualify anew, lots of players not even attending.

There was a toss finalist in GSL opens aside from MC :D? Also, GSL Code S does count as GSL Code S mainly because of branding (yes, i am respecting it, as it is how they treat those).

People always misuse that word
That's just one of two definitions (to remove 1/10 of an army). The other one, which is more frequently used and still correct, is to remove a large percentage (a rather arbitrary amount). So while you could decimate an army by removing 10% of it, it doesn't need to be exactly 10% (it could be more).

Sniper. Random GSL finalists happen.
If we're going to call a GSL finalist "random", the only one I'd go with (and even he is debatable) is Seed. Sniper was consistently good for a while before he reached the finals.
Jjakji?
Back in GSL
What? Jjakji was very random when he happened. Are you saying he is now back in the GSL? That doesn't really affect how unlikely he was in the past.
EDIT: Wait he is not back in the GSL. I have no idea what that was supposed to mean.
Actually he is. He plays in the ro16 tomorrow.
Oh, guess it makes a little sense then, I still don't understand the reasoning behind it.
If I've understood correctly, the term "fluke champion" is used when a player rises quickly, wins a premier tournament and then disappears. While jjakji fell off for a while, him reaching the Ro16 shows that he was no fluke, although he may have had a lucky run.

That's just one of two definitions (to remove 1/10 of an army). The other one, which is more frequently used and still correct, is to remove a large percentage (a rather arbitrary amount). So while you could decimate an army by removing 10% of it, it doesn't need to be exactly 10% (it could be more).
Hmm didn't know that second definition was correct. The more you know.

I know it's been misused for so long that the more common definition is now technically correct, but the original word is very specifically about destroying one tenth. Deci-mate.

Funny, if it works. Very frustrating, if it does´nt. I was rooting for Nerchio in said ATC match and it was incredibly frustrating to see 30+ Corruptors getting kited to death by Phoenix just because they can not shoot while flying.

It's one of the few units in this game that does not get hardcountered or itself hardcounter anything. It's one of the few units with a relatively open field of application, that allows for at least a part of the creativity and flexibility we saw in BW.

So Oracles are better Bunker busters and Phoenix have so much range that they can engage most air units without getting attacked back. That leaves a role for Voidrays fighting armored ground units. Yes I think they would do well against Mech still !
And what buff did they get? They cost 4 supply and do less damage in exchange for easier usage, I never had problems charging Voidrays before an engagement, so yes for me it was a heavy nerf. That made them useless in most ways I used them. And they will eventually disappear apart from getting them for a bit more security on the way to mass Phoenix.

They hard counter every Protoss unit that isn't a Phoenix. Where are our ground-to-air units
That's not quite what hard counter means. Void ray vs corruptor is a hard counter, +1 zealots vs 0 armor lings is a hard counter. Mass muta only beats mass blink stalker then they reach critical mass and have good upgrades. Add in Archon + storm and it will absolutely demolish mutas in a straight up fight. The only way for mutas to play against that is to circumvent or try to separate parts of the army.

Only Phoenixes can defend a Protoss against Mutalisks. Maybe Mutalisks don't hard counter the units themselves, but they hard counter every style that isn't Phoenixes.
That's a different story, and has more to do with the fundamentally shitty design of protoss. Mutas function very well in their flexible utility role, evident by the fact that this problem only really exists in ZvP. The fact that protoss for some reason has an Incontrol-sized hole in their ground based anti-air is another issue.

People are trying to do some mix-ins lately, something like blink stalkers + archons + phoenixes.
Anyway I don't see why it's a problem that we have to get phoenixes to counter mutas (and I don't see why it would be shitty design either).

the problem is that it makes the show look amateurish and looks bad on the tournament as a whole production wise.
this kind of stuff shouldnt happen at a blizzard sponsored major event.

Ok, that is obviously not neccessary, but still, they do 4-5 shows per week, I don´t think, we instantly have to critize them that harsh, if there is one bad close up of a caster (Which is not that important anyway [The close up, I mean, the casters are important]). For me this feels like unneccessary drama, that is, why I responded to you. But lets keep it at that and enjoy the games.

Tbh that engagement when ForGG was doing his usual 1-1 mini-push with mass roaches pretty much won the game for Nerchio.

Well he shouldn't really try to fight on the map. That many roaches scale badly, so if you feel the need to go on the map it should be with drops and focus on doing dmg and loosing nothing. At high army values(and with good upgrades) T will start massacring the zerg, at low the roaches can trade somewhat decently with T.

You just have to play it really aggressively, continuous onslaught of roaches with either hydras or ling/baneling to keep overall supplies low, trade and expand behind, rinse and repeat. Eventually terran third folds or you can at least keep his army size low enough and keep him occupied long enough to switch into ling/muta.

Tbh without the missclick the attack would have been stronger, there is something to say for either option. But if you approach it purely as all-in then +2 range is simply better.

Roach/hydra is good goddammit!
You just have to play it really aggressively, continuous onslaught of roaches with either hydras or ling/baneling to keep overall supplies low, trade and expand behind, rinse and repeat. Eventually terran third folds or you can at least keep his army size low enough and keep him occupied long enough to switch into ling/muta.
low supplies with roach hydra? Are you kidding me? Roach hydra is good as a seriously crippling timing, but not much else IMO.
Roaches do really well against Bio before it gets to critical mass. If you hit when medivacs are just coming out mass roach will easily overpower the healing. It takes a heavy committal and is shit for dealing with drops, but if a terran doesn't see it coming it is brutally effective. Game 2 was a perfect illustration. The timing window is narrow but it's there.
As long as the terran never gets above 130ish supply you are good. It fucking works!
Imagine if MMA wins WCS EU (vs nerchio in the final), Innovation wins WCS KR and Scarlett wins WCS NA . Then Acer would live up to being ranked as the number one team. http://aligulac.com/teams/

I would throw up if this happens.
I would probably join you in a vomit fest.
I would laugh eternal at your faces
I give you permission to do that if that scenario does come to pass.

You guys... be nice!
Sorry Not a huge Acer fan. I'd be fine with an MMA or Scarlett win! Just not keen on the idea of Innovation winning GSL. And definitely not all at the same time!

But the foreigner advanced, so I don't think they mind now.

Tbh, this day lacked a rematch win, so nothing to blame format on.

But shouldn't half the TL'ers then be whining they are going to quit SC2 (I think I only saw one in this topic, that is really subpar), with the other half blaming jetlag, network cables, food poisoning or whatever, as long as it is not the non-Korean playing better?

no one would have blamed the format today if nerchio lost...

its completely different to the other days...
The only thing about the format is that it is in reality a bracket with a lower bracket transformed to something resembling a group.

Nerchio did win? I'm confused as to what you are saying. I'm aware that there was no rematch this go around so it isn't exactly like the other groups that caused shitstorms in the LR threads of previous groups.

I have nothing to wine about today, since there were no rematches. I would complain, if Showtime would have beaten ForGG in the final match, but since Nerchio and ForGG did´nt play before, there was nothing to complain about, as this group turned out nearly exactly as Round Robin, with only Showtime vs Genius missing, which would´nt have changend anything anyway.
But since you ask so nice: The format is still terrible.

Atleast that's my prediction, but i should be right, unless ESL decided to randomize it just to screw with me -,-
If MMA doesn't fill one of those last two spots I might cry.
for the sake of Esports, he has to
preferably as nr 1 Best Brackets EU#1
The real interesting thing about your proposed bracket is if MMA gets first and Duckdeok does not advance, then we will have all foreigners on one side of the bracket, and all koreans on the other.

I'd LOVE to see a battle for foriegn zerg supremacy vs korean protoss invaders culminating in a sick MC vs --as long as I'm fantasizing-- starbuck finals.

I thought the draws were random?
If you compare how players were seeded in season 1 and 2, you will notice how it matches up with this bracket. So i'm 99% sure this is how it will be
Unless ofc you are right and it will be completely random, but it shouldn't be afaik
It is not completely random, 1st place is matched with 2nd. Group matching is random though and its good, cause people could throw 1st game just to advance from the 2nd place to avoid certain opponents.

Yep, as i said = Best Brackets EU
Brackets are random 1st vs. 2nd with the exception that players from the same group cant meet until the finals
