You have two possible targets, and only one "planetary nexus" available. That is why TaeJa executed that (as I assume) prepared cheese on Newkirk, since on that map, the distance between the nexi is pretty big. The only mistake that MacSed made was basically casting Overcharge on his main nexus (and forgetting Warpgate Oo) instead of the natural's Nexus. So would you please stop oversimplifying things?
