yes I've seen couple of the korean terrans as well as strelok do stuff like this before. I believe Strelok obliterated MMA with the same style of just dropping hellbats all over his army. I could be wrong about the game but I know strelok did it

First time I saw it was WCS EU. Stelock would go mech and use 3-4 medivacs to drop on top of the army while he sieged up. Also in the first WCS EU game with ForGG vs Bunny there was a total of 260 SCV kills. Yeah, helbats are pretty popular in Europe XD

Yes Demu! That performance was pure class all round, he seemed so focused and calm especially when it came to fending off that contain and drop play in game 2.
It's been amazing watching his whole qualification run - almost making it through the premier qualifiers, fighting into challenger league, and now into premier for next season. So, so good.

Theognis has very very solid macro play, that's what he used vs JD (not any all ins or cheese at all, was a great little series imo). I think he definitely has a chance, but no idea how today will turn out.

Yeh its probably a combination. Stc is a medicore korean. Demuslim is IMO a long with Lucifron the best terran foreign player (maybe the two best foreigners overall). So seing the perhaps best foreigner beat a decent korean player shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Demuslim lost to Byun 17 times in a row cross server. Demuslim is good, but definitely no where near Code S level. TheSTC used to be up there with Byun, he's just lamenting at how far STC has fallen.

Byun should be in Code S and (I think) still could be. He barely lost to Rain in GSL up/downs and seems to only have lost due to his anger management issue nearly forcing his eyes to pop out of their sockets in the match. The commentators couldn't stop talking about how tilted he appeared during the series.
Also, Byun used a special type of 1-base build during those 17 matches every single game from which Demuslim was clearly experimenting with finding a counter while allowing him to expand. In only a couple of those matches did he actually attempt to play the same 1-base style against Byun.
Also, Demuslim has adopted the same 1-base build and incorporated it into his own strategies.
Don't think it's fair to judge Demuslim based on the Byun games. He has beaten Byun before and actually streaked against him.

TheSTC used to be pretty good. He got back to back top 4 finishes at IPL3 and MLG Orlando (3rd place), and was in Code S a few times.
I kind of feel that Complexity kind of let him down, which caused his skills to deteriorate. coL picked up a lot of Koreans, and I have yet to see a single one who got a lot better after joining coL.

Agreed. If the Homestory cup announcement today is an indication of things to come, region lock should get more serious very soon. They are actually enforcing region locks for Homestory this time and Blizzard is endorsing it.

No region lock in EU , yet an EU player made it to finals. It could have been an all Korean semi final, but it wasn't.

13 Koreans (10 of whom have been in Code S, 2 who have been in Code A), is a lot more competitive than a washed up GSL champion with hardly any results in the past year, Shuttle (who has never even been in the GSL), MVP (who was knocked out of the GSL--- yes even Code A, before switching to Europe), and ForGG (who was still in Code A when he left).
But if it makes you feel better imagining Europe would still have done as well with 13 Koreans at the calibre of the ones in NA, then keep imaging so.

Agreed, MLG is getting to be unbelievable. They can't even make DQ calls anymore . . . they are leaving it up to the players to determine who is DQ'd? Let's tally up the list of MLG screwups:

It's in the best interest of the viewers to have the game played, but it's not fair to a player to make them wait forever for it if that player showed up at the right time and the other didn't. This is the only fair way to have a shot at the game being played still without asking anything unreasonable of theognis

It's horribly unreasonable to force a player to DQ his opponent. How do you think Sen would feel about that if he ended up showing a few minutes later? They aren't doing this to be noble, they're doing it because they are cowards after what happened in the qualifiers.

On the other hand if theognis was like "I'm sorry, but the match was scheduled for ~7, and I have to be somewhere at 9, so I need to take the forfeit", then that's the way it would be.
I think that would be preferable to a strict rule where MLG disqualifies Sen 15 minutes after the scheduled time *if* we could have had a chance at actually seeing the game later in the night as long as it didn't conflict with theongis' schedule.

Problem is you're asking Theognis to put literally thousands of dollars on the line in order to be courteous to Sen. Not really fair at all, as he may want to be a "nice guy" but he may also want to have money to eat as well.
It's like dangling $2,500 in front of his face and saying "all you have to do is be an asshole to your opponent and DQ him!" . . . yeah, not cool.

The idea behind conflict of interest is to prevent people who stand to gain or lose from a decision from making said decision, since there is a huge potential for bias. Sometimes having a conflict of interest can even be illegal in severe cases.
Now of course, our situation is much less severe, but it would be unprofessional for the players to decide whether their opponent is DQ'ed. These situations are why we have admins, so that we could have an official making decisions who don't have any conflicts of interest.

I think it's better to just have a set of rules and follow them. When you add in all that conditional stuff then you start getting the stupid drama.
Pretty much this. When you start having anything more complex than "be here at this time +/- 15 minutes or you're DQ'd", you end up with way more drama than there should be. It's a regrettable situation, but it's way worse when you start ignoring/bending the rules (see basically every situation that occured this season)

Problem is you're asking Theognis to put literally thousands of dollars on the line in order to be courteous to Sen. Not really fair at all, as he may want to be a "nice guy" but he may also want to have money to eat as well. It's like dangling $2,500 in front of his face and saying "all you have to do is be an asshole to your opponent and DQ him!" . . . yeah, not cool.
Its always better to have set rules. You can actually discuss set rules. Casual "wait for him a bit longer" kind of shenanigans are great among friends, and even okay in small competitions. But with this much money and publicity on the line you need to have set boundaries.

Considering we might not even see SC2 at Anaheim in a couple weeks due to MLG trying to save a few bucks on qualifiers . . . . I'd say MLG is ranked 0th at this point, rather than 3rd. And yes, I had to invent the term "0th" in order to accommodate how horrible they've been to SC2 lately.

The idea behind conflict of interest is to prevent people who stand to gain or lose from a decision from making said decision, since there is a huge potential for bias. Sometimes having a conflict of interest can even be illegal in severe cases. Now of course, our situation is much less severe, but it would be unprofessional for the players to decide whether their opponent is DQ'ed. These situations are why we have admins, so that we could have an official making decisions who don't have any conflicts of interest.
Yes, but the conflict of interest in this case doesn't affect anything in his favor. In his favor, he can just take the forfeit, which would be the default ruling if following strict guidelines. He'd be acting against his own interests to agree to play the game later in the night, so I don't think the 'conflict of interest' is a problem really in this case.

Can't disagree with that. If MLG did fail at least WCS would be passed on to NASL guys who would give a much better crack at it (can't say for sure they'd make it work, but I'm 100% sure they'd do better than MLG). Would also be poetic karma for the snide comments Sundance made when IPL officially announced it's failure. Of course I don't actually want MLG to fail, as that's not good for anyone, still, I'd really love to know what shady little back handed deal Sundance made in order to convince Blizzard to let them run WCS. An offer the couldn't refuse? (or keep?)

He's probably not, but the coaches might be more willing to play him if he spends most of his time preparing specifically for GSTL, as opposed to Violet who may be spending more time preparing for WCS

He hasn't been in America for a long while, and won't be for a longer while now due to this visa fiasco. I went to a lot of trouble to somehow fit him into my fantasy team too, turns out he would've been the perfect anti team pick as he never plays a damn game >.<

I thought the issue was something to do with the fact that he over stayed his visit (by quite a long time) on his last visa, and the US border control is pretty draconian when it comes to matters like that. If that is the case he's going to find it extremely difficult to regain entry again any time soon.

The problem with Major is that he apparently has never improved his weakness. He always had extremely solid macro and multitasking but also always has been too reliant on it. His unit contorl on the other hand has always been extremely unstable. Almost always he needs a better economy than his opponent to win. I have to say that I thought at this time he would have improved his unit control enough to look more similar to koreans. Kinda dissapointed.

Violet is "in" Premier league, but not really as he can't play in live tournaments with his visa issue. Solving a visa issue before next Premier season is at best a long shot.

He didn't have medivacs, so he couldn't heal from stims. It was a tough decision

Well Major did better this time.
I don't follow metagame too much its weird how Brood Lords seem to have randomly become strong, against what Major was doing it looked great. Interesting how WoL Zerg seems actually very powerful again, why mess with SH or Viper, just need BL/Infestor with some Banes, why not?

They said on stream that he didnt show up so theognis got a walkover. They have a certain grace period for him to show up after his match is scheduled to start. He didnt show up by the end of that period so he had to forfeit.

Demuslim has been practicing that Innovation build with hellbat/medivac/viking on stream. I love watching that! Not a fan of hellbat drops on minerals lines (too ez), but for direct engagements its so fun to watch.

I have already stated this on multiple threads but to clarify viOLet has not broken any VISA rules or overstayed. The interview that Azubu did was mistranslated. It has more to do with the embassy recognizing his profession seriously. Things have been going much better and he should be back over here in June.
