Hey be nice, why not give it a chance? The viewer will decide if this is a good thing or not. I'm going to watch this week even if I am skeptical about the entertainment level. I will hold my judgement until I've seen what the show brings to the table.

Too bad EU challenger qualifier is going on at the same time, at least for the start of this. I would love to be proven wrong about expecting pretty low level games ^_^

Ok I know often "America" = short for "United States of America". But I think putting the entirety of both the Americas as your "i" seems a little wrong.

Except it was open to everyone from North and South America. Not just USA.

pretty sure puck isn't going through with the transition anymore, or at least is unsure enough about it that he's asked that people refer to him as male again, or just don't assign him a gender at all

This tournament is not USA only, its America only, aka USA, Canada, Brasil, Chile and so on.

I believe that puCK said that he prefers to be called puCK instead of he or she until he figures everything out.
|
On May 06 2013 03:08 Noocta wrote: Wait.. I thought Puck was a she ? ( won't jump on me for asking please =( )
I asked her/him when casting alongside TaKe if we should call 'her' or 'him' and she/he replied that it doesn't matter and we should just say puCk. Have you ever tried to cast and build your sentence without using he/she/her/his/ etc? ... God that was awful.

I know TB said "no caster cam", but I do think they add some value to a cast, especially for the pre-game and post-game analysis.
Honestly though, I just want to see TB with a huge US flag behind him.

I hope this lag doesn't happen in the games.

Is the stream smooth for anyone?
Sound is ok, no stuttering, but the video is essentially a dia-show...
Usually if twitch craps out it is both audio and video stutter...

It's the same for me. The stream is a series of pictures, the audio is fine.

|
I hope they postpone the games until this issue is resolved

"and we'll be getting into the game very--" *stream dies*

Of course I was going to be here for this USA officialness.
I am rooting for Leiya because of being a girl or MTF (forget) and I will back Minigun because he kicks ass.
Smack talk idea is interesting that was quite bland though, ah well. Tipping players? Knowing the insanely generous nature of gamers in the US some people may make more than Code S Koreans lol

Affirmative here. Good sound, Video bad.
Edit: It's bearable when you open one of the EU streams and mute it, if you still want to listen to casting. Just different observers so that's a lil' annoying. Better than nothing.

It's unfortunate that this is pretty much unwatchable.

Such a shame, I was really looking forward to this but with the current technical issues it's just un-watchable (I'm getting about 1 frame every 2-3 seconds) Hopefully the fault is identified and sorted.

I think there is a problem with video feed coming off TB. He is doing it in 60 fps per second, so either his internet is congesting it, or twitch can't handle it properly.

Conspiracy theory: TWC is unhappy they are not getting free advertising for providing the initial transport. So they are engaging in some creative routing/traffic shaping. Possible because of Sundance. But secretly, it's Hot_Bid re-enacting that scene in Airplane!.

Why are people allowed to openly troll about Puck here?
There was a pregame banter including webcam. Not only did Puck introduce himself as male, and his teammate Vibe referenced him as a male, he also was on camera and was clearly visibly male, both because he actually had beard stubble as well as a manly voice.
I think the mods should not allow people to troll about Puck here... I think this is pretty disrespectful tbh...

Vibe could have had that game if he didn't lose his entire army for no reason. Most of the overlords could have escaped when puCK did the first recall.

Sorry there is no victory screen guys. I will fix it tonight. I broke it when I was trying to add better support for stalemate situations and I didn't realize it no longer was triggered when a player quits the game.

pretty awesome game again. very entertaining

this has a lot more viewers than i expected tbh

I gotta say that I'm really happy that the stream issues are sorted out; while the games aren't of tip top caliber, they are incredibly entertaining and its clear that both Vibe and Puck are playing pretty well.
Edit: And as I say that, the stream dies

Spawning in the pot, in the green trunks, it's ROOT.ROSE!!!

True agreed, TB AND Husky both bring audiences to this built in legitimacy to the games and makes AM SC2 lot more fun. And actually these games have been high level in their own special way.

When the Observers went into Pucks vision and could see the creep at the hidden bases, was that actually Puck having them scouted? Because he couldn't see the hatcheries but he could see the whole amount of creep, so he should have been able to see a hatchery in the middle as well.
I'm not sure if I missed something there or if that is a bug where the observers see all the creep even though they switched to the opponent's vision

Let us hope TB only uses his dark arts for good.

I don't think there were invites. Players were selected by NA ladder rank/position. Top 16 eligible players of NA ladder.

There were 'invites'. They qualified by ladder ranking (GM).

Illusion did ladder on a shared barcode NA-account last season and so this could not be considered his account following the rules of the tournament.

Yes I believe the worker count in gameheart includes workers under construction and mules as well. I just have it checking for all units with the 'worker' tag. I will look at it tonight when fixing the victory screen to see if I can correct that.

As noted earlier on Twitter, TotalBiscuit is currently pulling what I refer to as a "full Kaelaris" - he is the production, the observer, and commentator. (With Husky, granted. But then Kaelaris got ToD recently.)

Hm, still unlisted on TL sidebar. I hope TB remembers to relist it, it could help with numbers. Edit: horray it's up

I guess I will root for Puck, Husky is skinny enough, poor fellah he needs more Taco Bell.

Some day, some day, Taco Bell will get the damn hint and drop a sponsorship deal on Husky.

Why are Husky and TB misgendering Puck? That's really rude and also not very professional. I saw the MLG casters doing the same thing in the game against Sage.

Exactly that risk is big enough to force the opponent to play differently.

Mmm, no, what I mean is that what the teammates have to say about the choice of pronouns isn't important compared to Puck's choice. So while they should use the correct one I am not going to take their word on the pronouns over Puck's is what I am saying.
I stated already that I wasn't aware of Puck's current ambivalence to gendered pronouns and that given the last information I had was that they were using she/her pronouns, hearing Husky and TB use he/him pronouns struck me as possibly rude. In the context of some of the transmisogynistic behavior that happened (and luckily at least on TL was rapidly shut down) when Scarlett (and also Puck) came out and general (trans)misogynist behavior in much of professional gaming it seemed like a pretty normal concern to have.

31k viewers? Holy hell, this is sick. So glad people are tuning in and giving this tournament the viewer count it deserves. Love all you people

Rudermensch, surely the best thing to do is just email TB (or even PM him) or Husky asking them the question of how they know what to say, and not get involved in yet another debate that ends up going round in circles on here. Its far too easy for the trolls to get their trolling done when everyone keeps making such a massive issue of it, especially when there seems to be alot of confusion as to what exactly the situation is.
On topic, i think this has been pretty good so far. Yes there have been issues but all of the issues are just stuff that happens. TBH TB and Husky are an awesome and amusing combo and the games have been mistake laden, but very very entertaining.

Perhaps TB means something different when he says "really good PvP". I found it a bit drawn-out tbh.

It deserves? It's got this many viewers due to good advertising, something most tournaments neglect. The games are abysmal and I had to turn the stream off because I was getting Thorzain vs Killer flashbacks. That last game was a great example of what happens when both players just keep going full foreigner whenever they get in a good position. It's sad and frustrating rather than entertaining

It's sad and frustrating rather than entertaining I decided Shoutcraft America deserved my eyeballs because I like several of the players, the production value is good (even though there are have been issues - this is the first broadcast after all), most of the games have been entertaining. It's also a tournament that supports the NA scene, which is a big plus. Sure, the casting is a bit casual for my taste, but those Husky and TB mesh pretty well. 30000 other people also agreed that Shoutcraft America deserved their eyeballs.

I love this tournament, but so far I've been less than impressed by the observers who very often miss action. Maker vs Puck not showing key drops. Minigun vs Puck watching stalkers walk across the map instead of a zealot warp-in, and missing an oracle going into Puck's main, instead clicking on Minigun's units at home. The observer is idle too often, hovering over units that are standing still instead of keeping an eye on the mini-map and catching all of the action. Perhaps I'm spoiled by other observers in other tournaments, but I hope they figure out a system to improve the observing in these games.
|
TB's casting has gotten a lot better.
|
almost to easy, few Zealots distracting 2 colossus from Minigun

Minigun could have ended that early on, but just waited for way too long.

+20 worker for Minigun, it's cool for eco, not for 200/200 fight
|
Hmm, shouldn't Minigun had just moved on that 3rd? Would've undoubtedly taken it out and Puck would've been forced to take a fight in a choke vs Minigun's concave. Instead Minigun moved to engage Puck and his army frog-marched into a colossi laser show.

+ Show Spoiler +All WCS premier and challenger league games ( except finals ) are going to be during Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in case you have not noticed. ( Just look at CodeA / Code S schedule or NA/EU ro32 )
First season is going to have exceptions for NA/EU lan part and qualifiers, logistics issues since they are behind schedule and also they had have more qualifiers to do.
Second season probably is all Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday.
So Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday all are 100% free timeslots ( except maybe when proleague/gstl or a premier weekend tournament is running )

I don't think Husky is the best partner for him if you want to know what's truly happening in the game, but they are doing the best with what they have going for them. Husky and TB are both play by play, it doesnt really make sense to for them to cast together. When a fight happends both want to cast it, doesnt really mesh well Well they both work together and TB is running the event. I don't think they are going to hire anyone else.
TB has hinted on Reddit that he might be casting with Day9 next week - which sounds like a much better pairing. Both Husky and TB are best when paired with a strong analytical caster like Apollo. Still, really good casting today, and John absolutely deserves an MIP award for his massively advanced analytical understanding of the game since the early WoL days.

Lowering the depots was suicide, he had no chance after that. Maker choking hard here, pretty sure his nerves are destroying him.

Very surprised that Puck was able to beat Minigun. Puck doesn't seem to win very often against Minigun on ladder, and in general Puck's control and decision making doesn't seem to be on quite the same level, but today Minigun seems to be a bit off in his mid to late game decisions, throwing away his advantages left and right.

I assure you Code S Koreans don't get supply blocked 8 minutes into a game when the game was absolutely stale.. If it were 38 minutes in I can understand because people get tunnel vision but absolutely no excuse for that.

Code S players get supply blocked when they are dropping, dealing with a zealot runby at the natural, and dancing with the opponent's army for position. Maker got supply blocked with nothing going on on the map. That really shouldn't happen at that level.
Edit: Ah Mackus, you just barely beat me!
For the failed suicide for the colossus, I can see why maker did that. If he didn't do some pretty significant damage, he was going to be in a lot of trouble. And that colossi was preventing any damage. He was in a horrible position before he fail-suicided for the colossus.
Edit: Yorke: Yeah, I very much enjoyed the downtime music. Ended up loading some of the songs in youtube to listen to them later. I'm very glad TB put the song that was playing on top.

Well have to say I overall enjoyed this experiment but there were some criticisms
Production: But will be fixed Too Long: I just couldn't keep interest for 6 hours, so needed to take 2 off, not sure why it had to be so long but hard to keep my attention this long with this level of play. Personalities were a bit disappointing, don't exactly want them to be fake... but being funny would be okay. Lack of hype was apparent at times this felt like a DoTA2 board with its slowness and man the chat was always so good manner and boring. Talk more about your tea and crumpet recipe please.
My likes were definitely the close level of games: MLG only shows one sided games for the most part. TB & Husky are enjoyable. It was amazing to see 30k+ watch NA players, this definitely is a slap to the face for those who thought only Korean or maybe Euro games would be watched. NA made a strong step forward today. Also the chat was actually amazing and much better than usual spam but sometimes I just missed the rush of text when a pimp play happens.
Selfishly I gotta say I called it at 4th page and both of my favorites won:
Grats Chad "MF" Jones and Puck :D
I shall return.

How? Dedicated observing for online tournaments is impossible. You need someone physically there at the streaming location.
I understand people are not that happy with the observing, I get it, but it's impossible to resolve that problem. There's only so much you can do when you have to focus on casting, observing and doing production all at once.

I have no proof, or motivation to find any. But I'm fairly sure it happens on occasion.

The Obs job didn't really bother me at all, so I can't really comment on that. I thought it was all in all pretty well done, and sans future stream issues, I look forward to the coming groups.

The good: Some fun games, fast handling of technical difficulties, enjoyed the TB/Husky cast, and it was fun watching some players I hadn't seen much from. I liked the selection format for the tournament, which seemed pretty fair to everyone who might want to compete. And, I liked the use of Gameheart.
The mediocre: The observing was rough at times, especially compared to a very professional cast like the GSL. I understand there are technical limitations that prevent this from being improved upon, so I don't feel it's quite fair to harp on it.
The bad: I think the main problem was really with some of the players being somewhat new to the tournament scene. My biggest problem - and I understand, it is hard to fault them on it, but it was very frustrating - there was probably 1+ hrs of broadcast time taken by players pushing unwinnable scenarios rather than simply GGing. This is unfortunate because it causes casters to be put in the awkward position of either proclaiming games "over" (and then having to wait for 10 minutes for them to be really over) or acting as if everything is good and well with 75+ supply differences. Again, I don't really know what can be done about this, but it was a noticeable frustration as a viewer. I don't want to see a rash of too-fast GGs, but tapping out when defeated is a good thing for everyone.

Meh I can do a lot better than that. I think if I practice more this week on some complex replays and don't have the stress of dealing with multiple technical issues in Group B then it should improve.

We believe it was around 40k if you add the English and foreign language streams together.
We're happy with that number but we'd like to see it go to 50k. I think as we get into the RO8 onwards, it will, plus the tech problems in the first hour caused many people to give up.

You realise I hope that a collision is a near miss
This was a nice start to the tournament I think, unfortunate with the technical problems in the beginning but it got solved and the rest of the tournament ran fine (for me at least). Only thing that's a bit sad is the broadcast times, staying up until 2-3AM (CEST) on a Sunday-to-Monday night isn't really feasible if you have school/work. Don't know if there's anything that can be done about it though without screwing over the west coast americans.
Overall I would say it was a successfull start to the tournament with some hiccups

I got to watch the whole stream sunday, can't believe my 3g internets in the boonies worked that well. 320p baby.
Was great to watch and I was surprised when I looked at the clock and it was after 4pm est at one point.
I will be watching the others, the technical issues will get ironed out as they go along and I think after this complete tourney TB will have a great platform to do it again. Make Husky give you the $50 in something other than taco bell.

I would agree that even Code-S level players do make mistakes, but thats because you cannot say that even the best player in the world would not make a mistake ever. Usually a Code-S player would not get a supplyblock early on, when not being pressured, thats what he was talking about.
Other than that, I think pointing out how big of a mistake it is, regardless of level, is justified. If MVP gets supply blocked @ WCS 6 minutes into the game, hell I will point that out as a caster, because its rare and its a mistake. Its not bashing
|
Getting supply blocked is pretty ridiculous. I would chalk that up to nerves, but I watch his stream a lot and he routinely gets supply blocked; I figured it was due to talking while playing. No idea what to think now. It's a lot easier to get supply blocked in this game than in BW (unless you play Terran). In BW, at least, it really was inexcusable and I doubt any good pros were getting supply blocked. I was watching Grubby the other day and he was at something like 90psi out of 180. He had never even gone above 90 supply. If you're getting supply blocked, at least it shows you weren't taking the bronze league approach to macro'ing. Given the alternative that I've seen... I think it's a step up to see foreign pros getting supply blocked.
People should be harping on players for having a way higher cap than current supply. I mean, that's just intentionally being bad.

Too much supply free (when never in that area / not needed) is as bad as getting supply blocked. But one has to realize that its never a good thing to be supply blocked. Even if you take the approach that he is at least making a lot of stuff, he prevents himself from making more stuff.
Same with building too much overlords/pylons/depots. You prevent yourself from spending the minerals on something actually useful. When being Protoss, I can understand that you build warpin pylons over the map that doesn't or shouldn't neccessary be supply pylons, but thats about it.
