I seriously cannot wait to see Theognis in action tonight. I dont even remember the last time I saw him in a competitive individual tournament setting.
I think theognis is pretty good, he has a shot against snute if he plays very well. Vibe told me his condition right now is very bad when I played him on ladder, but I think he's very good too and this is the kind of tournament he performs best in usually.
Hoping for all AM based players to do well as they're imo the only players who should be playing in this (along with Polt, Demuslim and other non AM players living in AM).

That's what happens when you play in the wrong continent. Same type of thing happened with the Taiwanese and Chinese players in the Euro and NA qualies, except they don't have a region to participate in so it was forced upon them. This is Snute's choice to play at 2-4am

You know I was just wondering if these were replays... since that wonderful Starcraft banner is conveniently in the way. If that is the case though why mess up the order of groups if you are just doing replays anyways. We'll find out soon enough if it's replays or not if you see spam text from a pause out of nowhere.

I know what ya mean. Anytime I see any type of image covering up where the replay menu would normally be alarm bells go off. Either way if there is even one pause in any of the games they will be found out soon enough. If you aren't using replays you shouldn't have an image over where the replay menu would normally be. Especially with much better UI's around now.

Yep. If you go Marine, Marauder, Widow Mine then you need to be constantly attacking. The whole point of the composition is to allow constant mobility and aggression. TheOgnis just sat around and played like it was Marine,Marauder,Tanks. Kinda sad that someone in GM doesnt understand the purpose of the composition he is using.

All the WCS regions have Daybreak, so that's irrelevant. Cloud Kingdom is the best map we've ever had in SC2. It certainly beats out the new shitty maps in GSL (they should use DMZ from GSTL. that's a good map).

I really think people rely too much on window mines. People have figured them out pretty well, usually using free units or detectors making mines harmless.

Good post - I also figured people would discover their weakness and they would get less powerful as games went on, still they have had some good hits today.
After seeing that game, I'm a bit more changed in my opinions towards Widow Mines in the current ZvT metagame. Sure, they have their usage and definitely are a viable choice as splash damage and zoning, but the longer Zergs figure out how to micro better and exploit the cooldown, I feel they might be phased out in favor of more Siege Tanks possibly. But who knows, I'm not a pro, nor even a Masters level player ^^

it depends how there used. Mines are shit in defence compared to tanks. but in theopen field they are really good. Mines better for offence.
In the Maru game I think he just left one tank at his natural and one at his third after making sure he was safe early, he didn't really use them much in his army just to defend run bys/stop all ins.

This. Besides, the only chance for KR players to pull ahead of NA/EU region players is to get top 5 and place high in the season finals, and even then I guess with bad bracket luck, they could end up eliminating each other and not get all the top spots.

Stephano wrecked Thorzain and Kas with his roach/hydras composition @DH , VIBE was just playing poorly (dont get why he didnt Go for double ups) .
Pretty one side but that is what happens when you play roach hydra against bio mine. Honestly felt STC played pretty sloppy too, losing a bunch of units early and such.

Something to balance the stealth tanks that shoot air would be nice. Perhaps if they dealt splash damage where they launch the missile as well? They don't feel like mines at all- you can move em, burrow and unburrow during fights, move them with your army... they're just a little crawly tank oftentimes. Putting them in a defensive arc out front of your base is cool, and makes sense with the design. But leapfrogging them with your army across the map?

This is embarrassing to watch. Its 1 thing to watch Snute throw the game by throwing away his units , but then having a semantic debate about the difference between sacrificing your units and throwing them away in this context?
Snute definitely threw this game. Was ahead in economy, same supply, all he needed to do was to defend or take out STC's army first, before going for the kill.
Ahh... snute just played absolutely awful at the end... just kept trying to counter when he was aware there were tons of widow mines... then making a ton of banelings for absolutely zero reason really.... :S
I haven't been watching too much ZvT in HotS, does the zerg typically stay on Ling/Bane for like twenty minutes? It seems really weird, like there should be more tech.
The STC had some great defense on some of those early baneling busts too. Those should have done way more damage but the STC managed to only lose 2 or 3 SCVs to 5+ banelings.
One thing that stuck out at me was Snute had a infestor nearby to some mines, should have used a couple infested terrans and then sent in the force, wasted tons of units by not doing this.
Siege Tanks would probably shut down alot of things the Zerg can do. But at the same time would make it also easier for the Zerg defensively. I am curious if we ever see a mine tank combination for midgame pushes. can setup a tank near the hatch and protect it with mines who are protected by marines and marauders against tiny groups that wanna spring the mines. But the Techlab really hurts the timings.
Just tuned in and caught most of game 2....pretty entertaining. I hadn't planned on watching much of the NA WCS but I may end up doing so when I can now.

ForGG is already in EU and he's not even nearly trashing anything. He got trashed in ESET UK and Dreamhack.
Well for WCS I am sure that next year we will have more Koreans living in EU to play there, it's still a lot easier than Korea and NA will slowly become fully Korean unless Blizzard does something so EU will be the easiest region for players that can get on teams with houses. MC/MMA etc

In what way is my post wrong? STC is clearly bottom tier KR, and he's playing in NA because he has no chance in WCS KR or EU. He's relied on cheese/mines every game, except the one multidrop in game 2 when he was already ahead from mines (also upgrades).
Wow so much derp going on here.... I actually think Vibe and Snute should have beaten TheSTC today, but guess what, both of them choked on something pretty big. TheSTC didn't.
Even though it's upsetting for me that TheSTC is the first one out of the group when he very easily could have not made it out at all (and he's Korean playing in NA), it's still obvious that he was in better shape than Snute right now.
Snute losing game two was just terrible. Same for the way Vibe lost. TheSTC just played solid and let Snute and Vibe fall apart due to their own faults. Trying to bash a player for not being as bad as his opponent while using the defense "Snute's top play is better than TheSTC's top play" is just ridiculous. People don't win major SC2 events like that.

Most of the Koreans in NA are in NA teams so unless NA teams starts recruiting more Koreans I doubt NA will be fully Korean. I also doubt that Kespa Koreans who are probably the better Koreans would ever move out of Korea. I also don't see EU teams recruiting more Koreans. They just have 1-2 Koreans at most. They are already having lots of success recruiting EU players so I don't see that trend stopping.

GSL is korean inside and out, Dreamhack was a mixed tournament in which korean/foreign terran players competed against korean/foreign players. Yea, I'd love if they changed the ladder seasons to the same as WCS seasons and had the same map pool + maybe 1-2 from proleague. It would feel much more like you can go from ladder>challenger>premier>season champs>blizzcon and just help the story line for the more casual people.

I'm sure theognis really wants to replay snute after appearing so weak against him in series one. He might look better against him the second time around.
The skill differences at the top level of competition are just staggering. These guys are GM players and look mediocre compared to Code S players.... who look mediocre compared to top Code S players.
It's like watching top level college basketball. Still kind of fun, but you know it isn't the pros.

The big potential of WCS AM are the casual viewers (not the people on TL). You can't tap those viewers if you have 0 advertisements and announcements outside of TL and Reddit. I am getting the impression that Blizzard sees the Ro32 as an extended qualifier to the real event, the Ro16.

Actually it started at 02 am CET. I watched the first 2 series but then I had to get some sleep.
Btw I really liked the player introduction graphics before every match. That was very much needed indeed and I cant believe it took almost 3 years to finally have that in a foreign tournament.

Production was solid quality, but the overlay could use an update. I really, really liked the Dreamhack overlay.
From a casting perspective, Axslav has really come a long way in his diction. He rarely does "uhhh" kind of thing with his voice anymore, and it makes him sound much more professional now. Axeltoss was solid as usual.

I think they did a great job, was fun to watch.
It airs on a ungodly time for Europeans but that can't be helped i guess, so i have to live with VOD's when i'm on normal sleep schedule.
Im not a fan of watching VODs. Its the same thing with replays. Knowing that the games have already been played takes away a lot of the excitement for me.
I remember being really impressed with TheStC when he placed extremely highly in that MLG 2 years ago. Two years ago probably doesn't mean anything now, but still.
