To me a deathball is an army that's weak when split up which is why you keep it in a ball. Doesn't matter whether it's static and you have 16 tanks in one spot or have them unsieged rolling around. Your units are still in a ball.

Tanks in sc2 are too weak to play mech a la bw. Main purpose of tanks in sc2 is to defend ure expands until u got a kind of deathball and amove towards oppenent. It is pretty similar to protoss way to play in that regard and i understand people who miss that positionnal mech playstyle we had in bw. Sometimes we can have that feeling in mech vs mech but otherwise its not really the case. Well, enough mech bs, Flash inc !!

It's one of those engagements that is so rare that even pros can mess it up; I think normally that would be a terran win based on the DPS and hit points of that army. If there was one more seeker missile, or a few less hydras, or perhaps even if that last viper didn't get that last blinding cloud off, this game may have gone the other way. Maru just handle the situation much worse than Soulkey. SK handle the situation the best he could. Not bothering spliting his ravens and letting SK slowly fungal their HP to red and the reinforcement of Hydras/Viper seal the deal.

Bio is about trying to force mistakes from your opponent, where as to win with mech you need to be super airtight and not make any mistakes yourself. Bio you can throw armies away and it means nothing, mech is all about being strong as hell. This is exactly the point. The reason that Maru lost there was because he tried to play it like broodlord infestor - basically just a-move after you get your army of choice. Had Maru been more strategic about the whole thing - taking out the top two bases first, killing the swarm hosts, sieging up in good positions, or anything else that this thread has been suggesting - his push might have gone better. Mech requires skill to be successful, while BL/infestor didn't as much.
