As the 2013 IPTL Season 1 steams ahead for it's finish, it's time for IPL to bring you the Playoffs and Up & Down matches to both determine the winner and who earns the $9,000 in prize money and who will move down to Contender, and who will ascend to Premier. The winners of the playoff matches will also receive 6 seeds into the WoL Main Bracket and paid trips to IPL 6!.
Playoff Schedule: EG v LG-IM: February 26th StarTale v MVP: February 27th
With the risk of becoming repetitive, Virus has retired, July is in the military and KingKong is no longer on the team. And Panic, who is starting for StarTale, is not listed on the roster.
mmmmm this one is hard. I feel like Startale may have fallen to 3rd behind MVP in team rank after losing Squirtle and PartinG. Life is the strongest player here, but both DRG and Sniper can take him out and vice versa. MVP has really been on the rise lately in gsl though, so I'm going with them.

Ah sorry! I must have accidentally copied for an old post! Thanks for keeping us honest!
imo MVP is the deeper team, but Life or Curious could come out and dominate. I expect MVP to get off to a good start in this match and then ST to catch up. I think 5-4 for MVP. MVP just has so many damn good snipers (Lure for PvZ, Dream for TvP, Sniper for the fan favorites Bomber and Life)
I'm just thinking about how freaking epic Bomber v. Dream would be oh my gawd. I'm also really pleased MVP is opening with Keen. He's good enough to defeat anyone in a Bo1. it seems to me MVP always sends out one of it's very inexperienced players in the first match and they would often lose so I'm happy plus who doesn't love the commander?

7th match-up confirmed: SvFF (Sniper vs. Fan Favorites)

Also, Tiger is now in a management position and no longer plays for ST.
I can see this going very close because both teams have pretty equal depth and strength in their players. This will probably go down to how well both teams can utilize their Zergs like Life/Curious for ST, and DRG/Monster/Sniper for MVP. I think ST has the very slight edge here because they have an incredibly solid and diverse player in Life, and a powerful all-rounder in Curious. MVP does have a terrifying Zerg arsenal, but I think ST can close it out.

Well, they still have Bomber and Curious to back him up.

Curious might have been busy with practicing for Code S, and Bomber isn't as consistent or strong as Life could be.

I feel like his strategy was just really bad for whirlwind. There's no point in teching up really quickly into broods on that map when it favors zerg so heavily in early to mid game which is why we see muta ling bane so often on it.

Certainly Life is their ace, but they are not a team like MVP during the early times, which only relies on one person.
I don't see how MVP can lose from this point unless Bomber plays way above his average or Curious comes and dominates and I dont think he can against MVP's tremendous zerg line up.
There is a reason why most TvT's recently have recommendation rates of 85%+ consistently. TvT at it's finest is a beautiful dance of strategy, positioning, composition and micro that really shows the tactical sense of a top-tier Terran.

sadly widow mines will prevent this beautiful composition from being made again in hots T_T

Actually, that's probably because you almost never see them anymore.
Watching zergs build loads of mutas because the map is too big for protoss to get to the zerg base for an effective timing and also too big to defend each base is so much fun -___-

I'm still surprised Daybreak is in the map-pool of every tournament. It was a great map, but just give it a good death, not this prolonged and painful one.
Wow, did not expect this at all, I thought ST would have put up a better fight, but KeeN and Monster decided to step it up. I like both teams equally though, but MVP is looking strong even without their typical stalwarts like DRG and Sniper.
I just noticed, finals are going to be IM vs MVP, or IMMvp...

Yeah, and he's been around since the open seasons. And the one time he got sent to an easy foreign tournament and had a chance to win a championship, he lost to Thorzain.

He won that one live event in California where I think a couple of people pulled out. The GIGABYTE LAN with all the drama about Destiny being dropped as a caster.

You have to remember these games are kinda old... I'd bet that Curious was practicing His ZvP or ZvT pretty heavily, depending on how long ago this was played (ro8/16)
I was kinda disappointed in Startale's performance tonight, I expected them to at least make it a close series if they lost. I really hope this doesn't foreshadow Curious performance in the ro4 or Startale's in the GSTL.
Life has been a tad disappointing in teamleagues since joining StarTale. If I counted right his combined record in IPL TAC, IPTL, and GSTL is 11-9 in 10 appearances. While it's not bad, it's also not the kind of super ace monster record you'd expect out of a player like Life. Here's the rest of the team's record in the same timespan for comparison (excluding HotS):
WIthout Parting and Squirtle, ST kinda needs Life to carry to be a championship contender. Otherwise, their lineup isn't all that scary. Gone are the days when they can field 4 Code S Protoss players.

Wow, I knew Parting and Squirtle were good, but that just shows you how utterly reliant ST was on them in team leagues.

AK team leagues are just very unpredictable in nature. It could easily be 5-1 for ST if Life beat KeeN. Sometimes players just get on streaks. Look at the finals last time, ST vs IM which on paper is a very even match. But Squirtle just went nuts and PartinG finished the job.
