Casters
Today's games will be commentated by Kevin Knocke and Kibbelz!
NOTE: We have changed the naming schema for this season of IPTL. We will now be naming our seasons by year (though I know you were all excited for IPTL XXVI). This will be IPTL 2013 Season 1.
I remember watching Liquid go up against Korean teams and note that the team had no depth against the stacked Korean teams. Now the roles are reversed.
Now it's Karont3 the foreign underdog team that lacks depth. Liquid should wear these guys down.
Lucifron and Vortix can take out anyone on a good day. KrasS is a really good player too. Since this is all-kill format its possible that Karont3 can come out on top. Really.

Decent, I guess, but not top tier.
Ret slightly favoured imho, but not overwhelmingly. In addition to that, Ret doesn't look particularly strong recently, so KrasS should have a good shot.
And "recently", are you kidding me?
TLPD hasn't been updated for ages and KrasS doesn't play many tournaments anyway, the Revival games are seven months old.
We've come to a point where International TLPD can no longer be used as a reference point for player strength, unfortunately.

I never liked Doa much, but I do feel they had better chemistry together after all the time they spent casting, I hope Kibbelz and Kevin Knocke develop it more over time, somehow it all still feels a bit stiff and forced sometimes.
Only three more potential ZvZs: TLO vs Giantt, then depending on the winner, TLO vs VortiX or Zenio vs Giantt and then Vortix vs Zenio! Maybe we'll get some other matchups, too, if all goes well!
I remember the 50 minute BL/Corruptor/Infestor/Hydralisk game between Giantt and Nerchio on this map at Dreamhack. Hopefully it won't get that far, I'd like to go to sleep before 5 am today, haha.

TLO have dubble the supply, think you will have your wish

Hey, at least they managed to win a game before the brothers come to the rescue. Everything going better than expected for Karont3 so far. :D
Haha Liquid knows how strong LucifroN is, they don't want to risk losing anymore players before VortiX get sent out. Gogo LucifroN you can do it! :D But since he said on stream he doesn't like TvT it will be hard.
"When I said I was going full time in 2013 I meant it".
Lucifron's answer to me saying I was impressed with him streaming 4-6 hours every day for the past week or so.
I don't really think that there is a foreign player that has so much potential. He's basically a Korean, just a tad slower, and I think he'll improve massively (if possible) once he focuses on Starcraft.

Abyssal City, hellion run by lots and lots of damage into gg
Oh ok. There are almost no terran on the MMR of LucifroN and he probably never plays on abyssal city, so it's no shame to lose to TaeJa in these conditions, given that koreans have this map in the GSL.
Interestingly this map has become quite good for terran in TvZ with the infestor nerf and raven buff, you can camp easily and reach HSM army faster. TaeJa would have been very hard to kill if VortiX wasn't that ahead from the roach push!

Ogod, so true...his stream is a daily 3 hour marathon of TvP and TvZ. Which I have fun watching, but it feels like Lucifron is the only T in the entirety of Europe.
In other news, if Vortix pulls out a 3 kill vs 3 Koreans, I will lose my mind.
On January 09 2013 11:11 DODswe4 wrote: if Hero loses i think they will go down into the up and down thingy
Yeah, since they already lost to First, another loss would mean TL drops to Up/Downs.
if they win the last one 5-0 its still possible that they get into a tie, with all three being 1-2 and with better map score, but yeah that is not a very good place to be
I'm just loving this! Especially, when HerO loses like a boss. Most likely will take him for my anti. I kinda like it when Taeja loses too when he's super greedy.

That's what i love from vortix, he doesn't care if it's a risky build, he mixes up a ton of builds, +1+1 roach vs terran, no infestors ZvZ, and an all in ZvP.
Wow. Vortix going beastmode. You have to wonder how much they really care about IPTL when they have Proleague and the individual leagues to worry about.
On January 09 2013 12:49 Gamegene wrote: They knew Vortix was probably going to be K3's trumpcard. so why did they not plan ahead instead of giving him 3 good zerg maps?
Have you looked at the map pool? There are maybe 3 'bad' maps for zerg Ohana (starting map), Antiga (selected by K3), Entombed (select by K3). When you have Whirlwind, Abyssal, Metropolis, Atlantis Spaceship all in the pool, it is pretty hard to take them all out. Taeja already took out Abyssal when facing Lucifron.

Edit: To be fair I guess GOM wanted more tosses. I guess Nani and Mana were not avaible?
Mana got his seed pretty recently. As for Vortix (and Lucifron for that matter), would they even want to go to Korea for 2 months it takes for Code S. We have to remember that not ALL players want to just pack up and live in a foreign country for 2 months (even if it is Code S).

Yeaaaa no
Lucifron, Thorzain, Stephano, sometimes Naniwa, Snute, Sortof, Kas, Mana, Hasuobs, and Grubby are all better/more proven than Vortix....
No, Vortix is definitely above all of those besides possibly the first three and occasionally naniwa.
Top 5 should be (in no particular order) Stephano, Snute, Vortix, Sortof, Nerchio
Naniwa is, and always be on that list for his runs in the GSL if you talk about all time. Currently, he hasn't been his absolute best, but Mana is also up there. I like how all 5 of those players you list are Zerg.
Awesome stuff. Didn't get to watch the final 2 games, but very impressive for a Euro-only team with a much smaller footprint than Team Liquid. Big props to Karonte.

If we're talking about all time we'd probably need to include Jinro, Idra, Huk, and possibly Sen. But if we are talking about ATM, I probably wouldn't include Naniwa.

Of all the people so far, you've been the only one to get it In all seriousness, yes Naniwa and Mana should get the nod, if only because of good results in the past few months, as well as Thorzain.

And how would you know if they were asked by GOM but didn't want to go live in Korea for 2 months. Same with players like Scarlett, Snute, etc. We only really know when the player accepts the seeds, who knows how many have been turned down.
Remember, you have to make a trip over just to play in the U&D. Then if you make it, you have about stay for 2 weeks to 2 months.

Nerchio is still way more proven than Snute (one lucky tour) or SortOf
Stephano and Nerchio were easily the best foreigners of 2012
Then I d say NaNiwa for his GSL performance, and MaNa somewhere Top 5, and LucifroN as Terran somewhere in between. Also dont forget Scarlett..
Vortix gets better though, except that loss against Oz (hey, welcome back Oz! ;o)) *cuddle*) he has some of the most impressive results among foreigners lately. Maybe this will become his year...

Fun fact: Vortix and lucifron is the best foreigner 2v2 team in sc2 currently

To be fair, it is the same reason that players like Happy and Ganzi never got credit after they went to GSL Ro4. Or even players like Noblesse, Keen, Ryung, aLive etc. They were just 'one' of the Korean terrans.
During 2011, the only Korean terrans that matter were Mvp, MMA, MKP. And then you had Polt, Jjakji, Bomber as 2nd tier. Even players like Taeja, GuMiho didn't get much respect until early 2012.
On January 10 2013 01:30 Rassy wrote: And then you had Polt, Jjakji, Bomber as 2nd tier
Bomber as 2nd tier? You should go wash your mouth with soap for saying such terrible things. Bomber is absolutely top tier.
Bomber should be top tier, but then he has moments when he just looks so bad. It averaged out to second tier. Besides, he hasn't even won a GSL yet, nor has he come close to one (never even made the semis IIRC). He's got talent, but not the consistency or accomplishments.

They're already out I'm pretty sure, there's no way for them to get top 2 now as its decided by tiebreakers, which means even if they win their final game its impossible for them to go through.

Lol since apparently LucifroN is gonna play full time in 2013, it will really be the year of Karont3. Scariest foreign terran, like korean terran scary.

I think a Karont3/LG-IM>Liquid>MVP>Karont3/LG-IM is still possible with the other team of Karont3/LG-IM winning all matches- Hoping for LG-IM/Karont3 though.
