The time has come for our forty-third IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win.

When: Tuesday, Dec 18 12:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)

FXO.Leenock is a ridiculous human being. His clutch performances in the GSTL and MLG victory indicated he was back in form, but his tour-de-force at IPL 5 cemented him as one of the best players of 2012. Is he the man to hold the title longer than HyuN?

FXO.Leenock

We originally gave the spot to Western Wolf's SortOf due to his excellent NASL performance, but after he fell ill, his teammate and IEM champion Sting pinch hit. 3-2 won't be good enough for Tightrope Terran; can he take it to 5-4 and become more than a one-hit wonder?

oh god, this is the best T they could find?

5-0, 5-1 Leenock. They're going to have to start recycling players if they can't get anyone from Kespa to play. Tho, MLG would probably be pretty pissed if the next IPL FC was Leenock vs Flash.

5-0, perhaps getting scarlett into it would make an interesting match, she seems pretty stable in ZvZ.

His series against Grubby was one of the ugliest I've seen in SC2. Same vs Vortix.

This won't be pretty.

Don't insult Sting. He's one of 3 Terrans that have won a premiere tournament since the queen patch. Him MVP and Taeja are the only Terrans that have won a tournament. That's pretty good company to be in.

Sting can take 1-2 games, but I don't see him taking the series in any way .

Leenock is just a beast .

Gumiho is 8-0 in GSTL finals postpatch. Know it's not an individual league but should count for something tbh.

Seems a little narrow-minded to judge purely off winning a championship to claim a player would hold a chance against Leenock. Lets be honest, IEM Singapore didn't have the highest level of players, compared to IPL5 or NASL. If Sting made it to top 16 in IPL5, maybe we could call him a top-tier Terran, but for now, there is no real reason to call Sting on par with Mvp and TaeJa.

Some of them. I watched him vs Vortix and some of the Yugioh games. Doesn't matter how he won just the fact that he was able to win in the current environment where only Protoss/Zerg/MVP/Taeja win tournaments is impressive enough that he doesn't deserve an "oh god, this is the best T they could find?" comment.

foreigners that beat Koreans right before facing him... Also most Korean Terrans can't beat Vortix or Yugioh in a bo5 right now.

I understand you are Sting's manager, but saying he is "at least just as good as Leenock" is pretty absurd. I don't see Sting in top-tier tournaments facing against Code S talents, nor winning IPL and making it to Blizzard Cup. Sting might be another practice bonjwa, but all that bonjwa-ness isn't being used where it matters the most.

He hasn't had the same opportunities as Leenock has had yet, he has attended one event outside of Korea and he took 1st place, anyway lets see how the show match goes, hopefully Sting can bring back the gold once again!

Do I support Sting because "Woo go ex-NSH!!" or do I support Leenock because "Boo stabbed NSH traitor scum!!"? Decisions, decisions.

Fuck it, he's Terran. Gogogogogogogo Sting!

5-0, 5-1 Leenock. They're going to have to start recycling players if they can't get anyone from Kespa to play. Tho, MLG would probably be pretty pissed if the next IPL FC was Leenock vs Flash.

Don't insult Sting. He's one of 3 Terrans that have won a premiere tournament since the queen patch. Him MVP and Taeja are the only Terrans that have won a tournament. That's pretty good company to be in.

did you even watch the games?

Some of them. I watched him vs Vortix and some of the Yugioh games. Doesn't matter how he won just the fact that he was able to win in the current environment where only Protoss/Zerg/MVP/Taeja win tournaments is impressive enough that he doesn't deserve an "oh god, this is the best T they could find?" comment.

he barely beat foreigners dude.

I think you are being overly harsh on Sting, he is at least as good as Leenock is

Well of course Sting isn't as good as Leenock if you look at it like that but the fact is no Terran is anywhere near Leenock going by results. With MVP and Taeja slumping there aren't even any Terrans that would even be a top 10 zerg if you go by results.

Uhhhhhh, Polt placed third in IPL and NASL. I think you are really exaggerating the difficulties of Terran against Zerg recently, it looks a lot better than it was before. Though I admit there are very few Terrans who can match the best Zergs, "there aren't even any Terrans that would even be a top 10 zerg" is wrong imo.

Leencok said in his Blizzard cup interview that he was having a tough time adapting to the patch and subsequently was losing a ton of games. Since this probably happened before then I wonder if this was part of what he was talking about

Sting took one game? Obviously a Patch Terran! I kid, Sting's pretty good and I hope he can show more success even if he falls to Leenock tonight.

I don't know why but I always cheer for Sting because I love watching a player who literally always cheeses and gets far.

It's like Gaulzi getting to championship bracket through cannon rushes. It's just hilarious to watch and makes awesome intense games.

No I hate heart.
Sting is at least creative with his cheeses, but Heart usually just does a 1-1-1 or something already done.

Also Sting can play macro games, and he's pretty good at them, he just likes to always cheese/allin.

I don't think its that bad.
It's only bad in the late game where you have to constantly re-position marine clumps into smaller clumps vs fungals.

But he's done really good otherwise this series, what in particular were you talking about?

Leenock somewhat scouted for 2 Rax, and he saw the 14 CC with the Overlord, so it isn't the biggest risk.

Mindgaming the inca mindgames, play greedy since inevitably he'll throw in the standard thinking you'd play safe against all the 2rax.

Sting is rocking
It's all about the reflections of freedom. Even though he hoped for a better world, with all his strenght, all his will, the most he could do was to make her smile.

Did not expect this at all 0_o

This was probably the reference that Leenock had to his struggles in ZvT recently.

After this series, I think it can be officially stated that Sting's nickname is Tightrope Terran. Impressive play by him though, a perfect mix of all styles: Marine/Tank, Mech and cheese which makes all his games unique and entertaining. Going toe to toe against Leenock made me respect Sting more.

Could also be that he didnt rly have to practice vs terran in GSL world tour so didnt rly practice much vs terran. And if this was the reason it sure paid off since he won. And the money involved in this is way more significant to Sting than for Leenock

I don't think its that bad.
It's only bad in the late game where you have to constantly re-position marine clumps into smaller clumps vs fungals.

But he's done really good otherwise this series, what in particular were you talking about?

Done rly good as in 7 2rax / proxy rax in a row

Yes, Sting is cheesy, but so is Leenock. There is nothing wrong with cheese if you can win pro games with it.

Leenock taking his 4th as well, don't see him losing this one. Total map control and hopefully wont try as hard to do damage as last game.

Sting somewhat reminds me of ForGG. Both are players who are adept at two base all-ins, and like cheesing every once in a while to control their opponents. Maybe their late-game play isn't their best, but they are good at what they do.

Impressed by Sting today, but I think Leenock could have done a lot better with his Muta control and overall felt too aggressive.

Sigh, why would he try to break a 2 base terran. Sting is so all-in, only way he's winning is if Leenock loses his counter-attack force as well as not macroing well at all.

Cool to see a non-zerg champion though! Hopefully we get at least some TvP and TvT

Leenock was definitely favored heavily but you guys were being pretty harsh on Sting trying to downplay his IEM win even though it's impossible for Terran to win tournaments right now.

There's no need to be so overbearing. Leenock himself said in an interview (Blizzard cup I believe) that he has been having a lot of trouble since the patch; not to mention he had zero time to prepare for fight club. I'm sure the above people didn't take this into consideration and were basing it purely on leenock's past results.

With that said, congrats Sting! It is definitely a great accomplishment taking out leenock, I hope you can break out in other tournaments soon.

Do you need to be so condescending? I'm pretty sure the majority of TL would have favored Leenock either way after the Infestor nerfs, and he just seemed a little off that day, though Sting played well.

With how condescending they were of Sting...

Yes.

Sting you are my hero!
I think I'm just going to 2 rax vs zerg on the ladder now. I hate BL/Infestor and I hate when the map is covered in creep. I would much rather play these scrappy low econ games.

Leenock was definitely favored heavily but you guys were being pretty harsh on Sting trying to downplay his IEM win even though it's impossible for Terran to win tournaments right now.

I don't think you mean right now do you? Terran is doing really good (with the exception of Mvp) after the patch. In fact zerg actually seems to be struggling a bit.

Tightrope Terran does it again. If the series is tied and it all comes down to one game, you're going to lose to Sting.

This is going to be kicking a dead horse, but I feel I have to mention it again. Lets compare the two players: Leenock, the IPL5 champion, with arguably the greatest line-up outside of GSL, and the player who just took first in his Blizzard Cup group. On the other hand, Sting, who went 3-2 in a tournament with almost all foreigners. Not downplaying Sting, he is an incredibly talented player, but favoring him over Leenock was absurd at the time because his results simply aren't as impressive as Leenock's.

Idk about right now we need more time to see how big the patch really is. I'm talking about since the queen patch as a whole. Taeja, MVP, and Sting are the only Terrans that have won a tournament since the queen patch.

When did Leenock complain about his ZvT? Or did he even? In the GSL interview he says he thinks ZvT is about the same after the patch.

It's actually misleading in the opposite direction. If you go by top 4s or top 8s Terran would look even worse than if you go by championships. Terran is a top heavy race outside of GSL. I also don't think it's only TvZ. For WCS Sweden not really but even if you do count it then you just have to add a ton of other tournaments so much that it's still a ridiculously low % that Terran has won.

very well played by sting, even with the abundance of 2rax openers. i thought leenock would start a new reign surely, but he was dethroned immediately! good luck defending, sting

Loved this series because of the early action. People need to stop assuming that macro games are always good. 15 no rush into hiveball steamroll games are generally no fun.

They were fun but I wish Sting varied his aggression a little more so we could see different units and strats. Overall I enjoyed watching it though

5-0, 5-1 Leenock. They're going to have to start recycling players if they can't get anyone from Kespa to play. Tho, MLG would probably be pretty pissed if the next IPL FC was Leenock vs Flash.

Do you need to be so condescending? I'm pretty sure the majority of TL would have favored Leenock either way after the Infestor nerfs, and he just seemed a little off that day, though Sting played well.

Idk about right now we need more time to see how big the patch really is. I'm talking about since the queen patch as a whole. Taeja, MVP, and Sting are the only Terrans that have won a tournament since the queen patch.

Ah I see. Although I think tournament wins is kind of misleading as Polt, Bomber and Gumiho have all had lots of success in the matchup.

Also would you count WCS Sweden as a major tournament?

It's actually misleading in the opposite direction. If you go by top 4s or top 8s Terran would look even worse than if you go by championships. Terran is a top heavy race outside of GSL. I also don't think it's only TvZ. For WCS Sweden not really but even if you do count it then you just have to add a ton of other tournaments so much that it's still a ridiculously low % that Terran has won.

hmm I would disagree simply from the tournaments I watched

IPL - 2 out of top 4 Terran
GSL5 - 2 out of Top 4 Terran
Dreamhack Winter - Terran finalist
NASL - 3 out of Top 8 Terran

Just recent tournaments off the top of my head. Anyway I guess my point is it isn't even close for it being impossible for Terran to win tournaments recently. Also with the recent Terran dominance we will probably have a Terran GSL 2013 season 1 winner.
You must accept him just to stay as an exception

There have been like 30-40 tournaments since the queen patch and you chose 4. You also used a different round for each one to make it look like Terran is doing better than they are top 16 for all those tournaments:
IPL: 3 Terran
GSL5 - 6 Terran (did well here but it was guaranteed since they had so many in the ro32)
Dreamhack - 2 Terran
NASL - 5 Terran (another pretty decent one)

So still not that bad but lets look at some recent tournaments you conveniently left out
IEM Singapore - 3 Terrans in the entire tournament and 1 in top 8 (who is Sting of course and he ends up winning but very low rep overall)
WCS World - 0 Terrans in top 8
WCG - 2 Terrans in top 8 who both lose 0-2 to a Zerg and Protoss
Blizzard Cup - 1 Terran in tournament who got eliminated 0-4 in series and 1-8 in games.
MLG Fall - 4 Terran top 8 (good tournament for Terran but still ended in ZvZ finals)

Currently running you have the MLG toc which has a PvP finals despite having Flash and MKP in it. You have Iron Squid where only 2 Terrans have got out of groups (and they both got 2nd) so far and there is only 1 group left which only has 1 terran.

If you go back further it just gets worse as well with tournaments like WCS Asia and WCS Korea having 0 Terrans in top 10 of both and some Z/P dominated MLGs. The MLG Taeja won he was the only Terran in top 8.
Regardless even if they do place well if they never win then it just means that Terrans can't beat the tip top players of the other races they can just beat the mediocre ones. If it wasn't nearly impossible for Terran to win tournaments they would be winning more often. I also doubt they'll win the next GSL. Yes they have a lot of Terrans in it but they had 14 of them in this season and they didn't end up winning.

On srs note, i have been watching sting stream recently and his mechanics are really good, micro/multitask/macro. Once his game knowledge catches up to his mechanics, he will be beast.

No I hate heart.
Sting is at least creative with his cheeses, but Heart usually just does a 1-1-1 or something already done.

Also Sting can play macro games, and he's pretty good at them, he just likes to always cheese/allin.

to be honest you just exactly described heart lol

I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)

Great. Now I look the fool.

I don't know how you would look like a fool when your analysis is based on previous matches, and basicly anyone who does the same should come with the same odds
It takes a fool to remain sane.
