Since I'm new to the whole OP game, I want to make it clear right now that I can't do any actual LR today.
Thanks for making the thread. stupid spanish class making me do stuff during GSL. it's like they dont even care about esports. I think MC and Heart will make it out
Well Terminator probably won't make it out seeing as the UnD are basically the elephant hunting grounds. Other then that Happy and MC are the safe picks, so i guess i'll be going with that.

Yeah, TvP and TvT are my 2 favorites right now, PvP and ZvZ are alright.

Well, I had to leave some choices out, and I saw last group had only 10 choices, so I went with that. It didn't occur to me at the time that a five player group actually has just 10 possible outcomes. :s
Awesome, thanks for the OP. I could've done the LRs, but I need to make sure that everything's a-okay for this evening, so I'll only be keeping one eye on the Up/Down matches today.
I am somewhat unhappy with today's group. MC has not been playing that well lately, Happy is inconsistent, Heart's playstyle is not my thing, and the rest are a question mark. But hey, let's hope for some good games anyway.

They already have good excuses to give them seeds, too.
Flash = Qualified for MLG Dallas and was the best KeSPA player in Up/Downs. Nestea = There is a special rule to the Nestea award. You can trade it in for a Code S seed one time only.

But it'll probably be Stephano/Nestea or Flash. If Stephano declined, then Nestea and Flash. Why Nestea and Flash? Cause they're popular.
When have they seeded from Code A into Code S? Or someone who just fell out of Code A?
Never.
Polt did.
But he won Winter Assembly during the time when seeds were discussed.
Wasn't that one season after?
No. He fell to Creator, then went to Finland, won Assembly, and got a seed.
There is a difference between seeding someone in Code B, albeit just since recently, and someone who is actually in Code A, though. As for YongHwa, has he actually gotten any important result besides team leagues?

Won WCG Korea, and got second in Homestory Cup.
Thanks. That's fairly nice, but I wonder if the tournament's relative lack of popularity could make it not enough of an incentive for GOM. I also wonder if they would push for more KeSPA players in Code S, given sad results in the U/Ds, and give out the seeds accordingly.

Hm? Stephano said on his stream that he won't play GSL this season because his schedule is too busy.
November is "his busiest month ever" but iirc he said he was to play GSL5, will depends on what EG ask him to do.
Yeah, I watched your interview, but that was quite a long time ago. Things have changed and he once again won't make it. Or do you have more recent news?
I think stephano will play in the GSL this season.....just feels like they no one else in korea is going to get a seed as no other notable foreigners are there atm(besides TLO) and they will definitely pass it to the most wanted foreigner.

But who of the Kespa players would they give seeds to? The ones they had already given Seeds, but have fallen off? Hardly, they prove they don't belong yet. The ones that didn't have a seed, didn't have one for a reason, because they didn't achieve anything yet, and in the meantime they didn't prove themselves in any other tournaments, simply because they didn't partivipate in any others. Maybe someone did in the MvP invitational, but I didn't follow that, and it would be a rather weak case, since it basically is just an online qualifier for MLG. But maybe they give a seed based on that.
I'd guess Younghwa + 1 foreigner for Code S, and a mix of foreigners and Kespa players for the Code A seeds.

TLO has had some decent showings lately, but it's a little ridiculous to say he deserves Code S. GSL have said before they are offering Stephano a seed every season, he just always declined it so far. maybe EG are forcing him to play though, i dunno. his schedule is already looking to be busy as fuck for November though.

Stephano said in his stream chat that he would not be playing in GSL because there are so many other tournaments in November. If this is true, it does seem like a missed opportunity as this is probably going to be the quickest GSL season for a while.

haven't talked to him since WCS Europe, I know he has 5 tournaments on 5 continents (I guess Europe and America comes twice) in November I assume: ESWC, Lone Star Clash, WCS World, DH winter an IPL5 which is a quite sick schedule, but EG wants him to...

GOM are changing their schedule around DH and World WCS but when you only have a month to complete the tournament up to ro4 there's only so much you can do

Yes but your Phoenix have to stay alive for the entire of the game - Liquid HerO and Mini have been using Phoenix/Colossi lately this was a new version of it

Been seeing more penix as of late in PvT, not a trend i mind very much. Always fun to see someone use penix.
It's viable as long as you hit those storms or if you can get a high Colossus count. It can be quite risky as well because there is a timing when you transition into colossai or HT where you are really weak to bio-pushes.

I also think that Stephano is gonna get it, but about the noteworthy... You have like 20 KESPA players that are more worth of seed than any foreigner ever was, besides Nani and Stephano :>
As spectacular as that game was it all really came down to that first engagement where Sparta was sloppy and ate full storms, was forced to run and lost all but 2 medivacs. MC played out his advantage with flourish, but that one engagement was the real game decider, not the phoenixes, imo.
On October 26 2012 18:50 dynwar7 wrote: How can Terran counter that mass zealots, some archons, HT and phoenixes?
Byun did it the other day by simply taking an extremely fast 3rd since Protoss can't actually do anything at all to prevent it if you have your workers protected since all of his investment has gone into Tech.
yeah..the amount of micro T has to do is pretty difficult when compared to storms. If you fail to snipe/emp the HT....get ready to take really painful storms..
And as for phoenixes, they can be annoying killing your medivacs, and when there are colossi, it makes it difficult for vikings

I am sure Stephano got invited but have you seen the dude's schedule. It is highly unlikely he can even fit it in. He has LoneStar, EWSC, WCS Globals, DH.

Strange, haven't heard a thing about him since WCS Korea. He's Terran though so.. I'm more shocked that CJ Hero finished last in MLG MvP and didn't qualify for GSL either considering how awesome he looks at the WCSs. But be on the lookout for soO at MLG Dallas. I would like to see those VODs, but I understand that MLG will not be releasing them for free and neither replays.
Allow me to be angry for a moment, this is why entombed valley is such a silly TvP map it's just way too hard for terran to get good engagements around all 3 of the toss baess when the storm is finished. Great storms don't get me wrong but I think it's just a little bit silly

Colossi timings are incredibly strong on many maps but a map like entombed is just so much better for storm because of the ease of defensive 3 base with psi storm up.

MC has been favouring blink over charge for a long time in PvT because it allows him map presence, he can attempt to force stims out on the map, it helps against drops and when you get charge later you can lead in engagements with your stalkers get some shots and when the stim comes you blink back and let you zealots charge in and the terran has to react quickly because they were moving in towards the stalkers and now have to micro back from the zealots.

MC had 2 storms available, did you see the way heart moved the marines/marauders at the 3rd soon as mc's army engaged he pulled them back. Most protoss players would have stormed and the M&M would have evaded it thus probabaly giving heart a better lead/advantage. By waiting that second or 2 then storming after the "evade" he got much much more out of those storms then most would have.

By waiting that second or 2 then storming after the "evade" he got much much more out of those storms then most would have.
A normal Protoss would have died 5 times already in that game but MC held playing perfectly.
These terran player who arent Mvp or Taeja need to realise that they dont have a good chance at winning TvP straight up macro style. Either cheese or open hellion/drop/banshee.

Nah, we dubbed the immortal-sentry all-in WonWonWon in one of the LR threads this week after Parting (named Won), the Startale coach (also a Won), and the Korean currency
WHAT? Did he just leave? I was pretty sure he could have just owned MC if he had attacked...he had blink stalkers, 4 immortals, and a huge advantage overall, could have split MC's army or something.

Soulkey is a good seed, I guess, but disappointed in the Baby seed. It's not that I have anything against him or think he's bad, but he fell out of Code A. Give it to someone who hasn't had a chance in GSL...
Numbers are wrong because Soulkey is under protoss here, it's 13/10/9. Still a good balance if you ask me, because TvT is the best mirror match up. I would have prefered another zerg seeded but well, Baby looked good.

You can if you just open up 1 more code A spot. Its not that difficult administratively.

DRG won a seed to Code S from MLG while he was in Code A and that's exactly how they accounted for it
I don't even know why Sponsor Seed or any Seed exists in Code S. Why not give 2 more seats for Up&Down, Code A etc. Is it like wildcard in tennis? Then, Goran Ivanišević won Wimbledon from wildcard, so... maybe it makes some sense as long as they invite decent players?
These seeds might have been finalized months ago actually, maybe part of their original deal included these players to be seeded in S5. Someone would have to check but perhaps they were the two players after the ones who got seeded for S4 in the Proleague ranking.
Since there's no date for the new GSL Season starting Gom could've announced the 2 best non-Code S players get into Code S for MLG Dallas next week. ( where plenty of Kespas players also are , )
Looks like they don't know how to do with those 2 seeds, no appropriate foreigners. So they found 2 good kespa players to give seeds.
IMO, they should just get rid of code S seeds, instead just provide several up&down seeds(maybe more than 2) for foreigners or good Kespa players, that will make a lot of sense. Free code s seeds are too unfair to other players.

The seed for Baby just feels wrong. If someone tries to qualify and fails than he doesn't deserve it and it is unfair to everyone else who tried and failed to qualify.

it's in everyone's benefit if they can give seeds through which they can market the tournament. I rather have code S with 30 great players and 2 maybe less deserving ones but good hype than just the 32 best. Seeds provide nice stories etc.
Online cross server play vs foreigners maybe not the best indicator, but we will see ^_^
I think that GOM should take like 8 potential seeds, have them play top 2 get seeded into next season.
i like that idea, sooo frustrated stephano isnt playing, like everything hinted towards his participation for almost half a year by now
stephano could probably win 1 on 2 vs these two seeds
That's overhyping stephano. Even if he's 1 vs 2 gold league players, 2rax + 10 pool, no way stephano can hold.
i like how you took that comment so literal.
i'm also a bit dissappointed Stephano isn't playing this season, but can't say i'm too surprised. look at the lineup of tournaments he's going to attend in November already, plus he's been NOT playing in GSL for like a year now.
Baby's I can sort of understand with his MLG MvP record but the tournament was so low-key and the bottom line became the Foreigners got slaughtered of some guys even though they had a 2 year head-start but a seed from it?

Part of the deal for Kespa players playing in GSL was for them to get seeded in, in Season 4 they got a lot of seeds in both code a and s and they are giving them more this season I guess.

I think it would be better if they get rid of automatic S seeds and just have more Code A seeds. It gets rid of the randomness that comes with Code B. But also make the players show they're capable of playing at a high level. I mean, Kespa players, at least A-teamers, generally perform much better for televised games anyway. So Code A seed is quite beneficial for those who are good at preparation. Which top Kespa players generally are very good at.

i love Idra more than almost any pro, but let's be honest here. yeah, some people underrate him, but some people also still overrate him imo... it's actually really hard to say what his current level is as he hasn't been playing many tournaments lately. and WCS america is cool and all, but you know, it's america. ever since Huk fell the fuck off, Idra is "not supposed to lose to these people" as he himself would put it. getting third place rather than first would've been a huge upset about a year ago.
Just watched MC vs Sparta, that style was so much fun to watch that I'm almost sad HotS is coming so soon... We probably won't get to see it develop that much, or see what Bisu can really do with it...

In the only PvP he played, he completely outplayed Sang in every possible way and won convincingly. In one of the PvTs on Ohana (I believe against Heart), he pretty much had a build order adantage (win) that went the best possible way. Heart went for a fairly fast expo with some tech afterwards, while finale opted for a 1-gate expo into 4-gate pressure. Heart had blocked his choke with 2xsupplies and a bunker, but salvaged the bunker after seeing finale's expo, which was 5-10 seconds before finale attacked. So he marched into the main with 1 zealot and 6-7 stalkers, while Heart only had 7-8 marines and only 3 rax. Didn't see the other 2 games.

Even at WCS NA, Idra beat Major, Suppy and Illusion while losing to State and Vibe. So being 3-2 vs established NA pros is Idras biggest achievement 2012? That says everything. Idra is still massively overrated by most parts of the scene.
