The others probably have already qualified through other means? e.g. going to Winter and getting ranks 9-80 or something like that

Actually, I think the new qualifiers will be Ranks 9-80 from MLG Winter Champs Top 8 from KR, EU and NA servers
So this is pretty much their only chance if they didn't attend Winter Champs
These are then split into NA, EU and KR servers again, and Top 8 from each of those will qualify for Arena 2. Arena 2 will also have the Top 4 from Arena 1 and 4 invited participants AFAIK.

Found this on the MLG page:
Please note: anyone who played in the Winter Arena but did not attend the Winter Championship will also be invited straight into the Invite-Only Online Qualifiers.
So I guess Nestea, MVP, Leenock etc aren't trying their luck until then ._.

Lol what is with MMA and FXO? First qualifiers it was Lucky, now its Choya.

too bad it's not broadcast

Choya qualifies? Are you kidding me what an upset

Hero's out

wow, HyuN takes out GuMiho... Taeja taken out by Byun... There is so little difference between Code S and Code A...

King choya reporting in!!!

Damn, Taeja is out too

Byun 2-0 Taeja, interesting. Taeja lost two tvt's to be knocked out.
I swear, korean qualifiers always create the wackiest results (not saying that the above result is particularly surprising, just talking about others)

man how could Tassadar got past both Superova and HerO? And Choya won over MMA again. So weird xD

Seem like everything can happen in online tournament.... HerO NOOOOOOO

CHOYA as the first who is qualified thats such a surprise i LOVE him ! kicked out MMA and other great gamers again
|
Can someone clear this up for me? The wiki page for Arena 2 says the Top 8 from each Regional Qualifier qualify for Arena 2, but this thread says the Top 8 of this Korean Qualifier qualify for the Invite-Only qualifier. So what is the Invite-Only qualifier? How many participants and who from it goes into Arena 2?
*Edit* - Read the MLG article again all is well. I was confused by the wiki page for no reason in particular :\

Life is so close to qualifying for the qualifier for the qualifier (right?). He just need a little bit of luck so that he can match up against Sculp instead of Crank in LB Round 7, then all bets are off.
Same applies to YuGiOh. Tassadar, please beat Noblesse so you can get stomped next round. Actually, I wouldn't mind if you qualified. XD
Lucky 2-0 over MMA, both games end with roach busts.
Will the last rounds be broadcast? There are some cool matchups there.

actually, the invite-only qualifiers aren't invites that MLG choose. a better name would be 'closed' or something, since: bottom 4 of spring arena ranks 9-80 of mlg winter champs top 8 of each open qualifier server any winter arena participant not already qualified
are invited, not 'random invites' like MMA etc. If MMA doesn't qualify otherwise, I doubt he'll be invited.

So, 2-3 zergs in the top 16? Well, it may just be better than what we'll see in code S.

So if i understand this right, top 8 in this will move on to spring arena? or do they move on to another qualifier? the first post feels pretty confusing.

Thanks for clarifying, seems like a pretty stupid way to organize the qualifiers though.

Go Slayers!
Slayers guys have a good shot at qualifying 3 (Ryung, Alica, Puzzle), or even more if some of the guys in the lower bracket get on a run (MMA, Yugioh or Crank).
Edit: Ryung just beat Happy to qualify. Gogo Slayers!

Choya (FXO) Alicia (Slayers) Maru (Prime) Ryung (Slayers) Tassadar (NSHS) Dream (MVP) Shine (TSL)

Ahhh, MMA so close--only has to beat Happy. So nice Ryung Alicia Maru. Shine has a sweet name, kinda wanna cheer him as well.
So these are qualifier qualifiers, hm? Pretty intense.

Is Shine the Broodwar player?
EDIT: Nevermind, it's not ^_^ Looks like a good round up of players

Heh, yes. It is likely a double elimination Super Tournament with some of the 'bigger' names waiting in the next 'round'.

How many players will each tournament have?

biggest upset for me is tassadar who beat so many extrem good players and also beat puzzle pvp. also alicia was kinda unexopected (2-0 vs puzzle ... damn i remember when he lost vs tod on mlg TWICE)

The invite qualifiers include: MLG winter arena participants Ranks 9-80 of MLG Winter Champs Top 8 from each server in the Open Qualifiers (this) Bottom 4 of Arena 1
So we actually already know a large amount of people who are going to be in the Invite-only qualifiers. I'll probably wait until after the Liquipedia April Fool's is over to compile those ranked 9-80 lol cos right now it's all AM/KR and no EU players.
|
On April 02 2012 16:35 Xeris wrote: so there is
MLG Invite #2 : NA MLG Invite #2 : EU MLG Invite #2 : KR
How many players will each tournament have? It can't be an equal number for all three since how its set up. Cause we have the 8 from each of the qualifiers and then the players who finished 9-80 at MLG, which is naturally have more NA players than anything. Also the players who were in the Winter Arena that didn't go to the Winter Championship will be in the qualifiers (so MVP, Nestea, Leenock, San and Losira).
So by looking at the 8 players who qualified today, the guys from winter arena and the winter championship guys, the KR region is going to be absolutely stacked.
MMA, Choya, Ryung, Alicia, Maru, Tassadar, Dream, Shine, MC, JYP, Puma, Alive, Polt, MVP, Nestea, Leenock, Oz, Crazymoving, Golden, Rain, Killer, Inori, Artist, Symbol, Sleep, San, and Losira.
That is 27 players.
There may be some more, but thats almost, if not all of the KR invite only line up. Oh and the bottom 4 from Arena 1, which ever Koreans end up there will be in this tournament. And with Naniwa and Huk being in Korea, if they are in the bottom 4 I can see them playing in the KR qualifier cause they hate playing with lag. So the bottom 4 of MKP, DRG, Heart, Huk, Ganzi, Parting, Naniwa and Violet (who probably won't play in the KR region) will be in there as well.
KR could have between 28 and 31 players in their qualifier.
EDIT: I decided to go into the other 2 regions.
72 spots of the invite only qualifiers come from the 9-80 spots at the Winter Championships. 14 of the spots were taken by Koreans listed above which leaves 58 spots. Looking through liquipedia, I believe 11 spots were taken by Europeans. I'm going off the notable players list as I think all Europeans who came over were notable (sorry if they aren't). This would leave 47 NA players.
These numbers may all change as players may play in different regions depending on where they are. For example, Ret has been living in the US so he may be in the NA qualifier and Haypro who was staying in Korea (will he be going back? not sure) may chose to do the KR ones due to lag and such. These are all just rough estimates here. And its late so I could be completely wrong anyways
Europe has 3 players who were in the arena but not the championship (Pomi, Merz, and Sjow). So take those 3, the 11 from the championship, and the 8 from the TBD qualifier and we get 22 players.
Which leaves us with the NA region. we have 47 from the Winter championship and the 8 from the TBD qualifier. All NA players at the winter arena attended the winter championship. That would make 55 players from NA.
So in all we have:
KR: 28-31 EU: 22 NA: 55
These should be pretty close to the actual number, but like I said, due to EU players living in KR/NA and so on, its hard to say how it will all play out.

Yeah, the final list for the invitations will have to wait till arena 1 is done and also for player signups. Players could play in other regions depending on their physical location at the time. There was some concern the Koreans would all sign up on NA because it would be 'easier' but we didn't really see that last time (it is likely going to be looked down upon if you are progamer in Korea and try on purpose to qualify on NA/EU).
