do one or two players advance from each part of the open bracket? because if its only one, that would mean that either polt or stephano cant make it. ;/
btw kinda funny... these two seem to be destined to face off eternally.
These are my picks for the players who will stand out in their brackets. OB4 really stands out to me because there are a lot of great players in it. Especially Idra who needs to get out of his slump. Jinro can make a great come back as well, and TLO. However, I feel like Idra will get completely rolled over because of his poor attitude towards losses.
OB 1: Stephano | Polt OB 2: Alive | Minigun OB 3: Rain | Symbol OB 4: State | JYP OB 5: Inori | Morrow OB 6: DDE | Vibe OB 7: Illusion | Select OB 8: Thorzain | Hawk
Now let's see how this goes! :D Good luck to everyone!

The loser's bracket lets you start at the bottom of the tournament on day3. It would be unbelievable epic if someone won the tournament coming from the Loser's Open bracket.

hmm do they have enough computers for all the open bracket matches to be played simultaneously? Haven't seen that many results yet and tournament started an hour ago.
How does MLG seed? Do they only take into account matches won in official MLGs and not other tournaments? Is that why Polt and Stephano are meeting so early?

Am I the only one having troubles with the stream? I'm a Gamebattles Premium MLG League Member, WTF IS THAT? I can't watch the ultra and ultimate qualities, I'm getting a massage about a voucher -.-.-.-

You had a silver membership then and didn't read the mail they sent out when they changed their payment plans. Silver memberships are no more, you either buy gold or HD passes for specific tournaments. If you had access to the ultra+ streams then you'd find the voucher in your account settings.

Wowww round 4 of the open bracket is already pretty damn stacked even without a lot of the koerans coming. Round 5 just gets even better with the players who were at the Arena.
No, that was a bad game, entertaining, but bad. Lot of mistakes, Stephano early game was sloppy, Polt should have won midgame but lacked initiative, then Stephano had the game and completely threw it away, even with better reprod and Polt not mining.

Not sure if serious... was a great game.
no, games they produced at ASUS or Lone Star Crash were much better, more refined. Don't get me wrong, this one was very entertaining with lot of back and forth action, but the mistakes were obvious. I wasn't in awe thinking "hell it's beautiful, how is it possible to play so well", but more "gah, stop throwing advantages away guys >.<"
Aaaand close pose Metalopolis, 2 - 0, welcome back in LB Stephano :-( Or maybe not, much better opening from Stephano.
Game 2 was much better in the sense there were less errors, especially on Stephano's side who macroed and defended drops perfectly, but much less entertaining Polt played way too passive though, he could have done a lot more damage with hellions and persisted with random fail drops even after Stephano got infestors.
With round 4 complete, i think it looks like the players getting into groups are: Polt, aLive, symbol (this could go to a couple people depending on how Rain and killer play. would be surprised to see drewbie advance seeing as symbol is pretty good against terrans), either JYP or Jinro probably, Heart, Golden (Puma's TvZ strikes again!), Crazymoving, and winner of Bling and Thorzain

Puma's TvZ is still sick good and I'd give idra the edge over jinro then jyp will dismantle him. Most favourites will make it out of the open bracket though so ...... :D

THERE WERE ALREADY CHANCES FOR THEM TO BE SEEDED.
If they wanted a seed they should have qualified (Polt) or tried to qualify (Stephano) for Winter Arena. Your suggestion that every person who enters the Open Bracket being given a seed is beyond retarded. If it wasn't Stephano vs Polt, it would have been Polt vs Symbol or Polt vs aLive or another such unfortunate match. When so many good players enter the open bracket, this is the kind of thing that happens and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Deal with it.

It is dumb that they met so early in the tournament, but at least we got some good games from it. At least Stephano isn't entirely out of the tournament so we will probably get to see more of him this weekend.

actually, they were seeded since they had previous mlg points they both ended up having bye's in the first round. its just how the seeding worked.
Oh and they certainly arent the two best players in the tournament. DRG and MKP have that title

People aren't saying that Polt and Stephano are top 2 in the entire tourny. But 2 of the strongest in the open bracket meeting so early is pretty crappy =(.
Jesus christ Steph fans are so self centered, the tournament is not setup around just one player you know? There're plenty of other top level players in the tournaments, and there other players with bad draws. That's just how it works out, and others just deal with it. If steph won over Polt none of you guys would be in here protesting how "unfair" this is.

i understand your point of view, but polt vs stephano needs to be a semifinal match (they can't be in the same bracket) but of course this is impossible since they did not go to winter arena

?? I'd have been equally hurt to have Polt in the loser's bracket in round 4. Don't speak bullshit.
I still find it dumb to only seed open bracket on account of MLG points, completely disregarding every other event in the world, ever. Like... code S/A players in the Open bracket could get some seeds to make sure they don't meet early on, seeing the previous MLG/GSL partnership. It maybe wouldn't have mattered this time, and avoided neither polt/stephano, not Sleep/Symbol in r2 (WTF), but it could help eventually.
Or maybe the winners of previous tournaments, though that would be more difficult.
I'm just pissed by the "only our results matter and the rest of the world we don't give a shit about"-style of MLG.

I think he meant the open bracket, as it was the only thing, where this seeding has an effect. And they are two of the best three players in the open bracket (third one is aLive). And if two of the best three players in the open bracket collide in round 4, whereas guys like Glon, Nony, RuFF or wbc have an easy bracket to get in round 5, the seeding is bad.

They are mixing per rounds. But if you're in WB3 Group 1, all the people losing from your group at that round will get into the same group of the loser bracket. I meant mixing that up. It's easy to do and just lazyness.
Anyway, let's forget that, there's never a tournament that can please everyone anyway. I'm just ever-so-fed-up with MLG for various reasons as a fellow tournament admin.

You know the sad part in this ? That's when you (and by you I mean blazh0r) realize that the MLG admins are so stupîd they got the LB wrong and during a significant amount of time, the LP is actually more updated than the official brackets.

they are not the two best players of the tournament... they are two very good players but stephano has in no way proven to be better then the likes of MC/Marineking etc. Edit.. forgot DRG :D silly me

MLG and others really should make an automated bracket updating+creation function like I made for CES Indianapolis... where I could handle all the reporting shit myself as a result. Sure, a few times other admins called poked cause they were closer, but in terms of work involved I actually didn't have much of a workload at all.
Of course there are other things to consider related to MLG (and I'm not referring to size), so a certain level of redundancy may be wanted for the level of automation I made at CES, but really that shouldn't be a problem either.
This is ofc assuming it is still done manually as it was at Providence when I was there.
Idk what backend MLG runs on, but I would totally write an MLG tailored logic in php/mysql for free since I am a big fan and watch stuff you know.
I love iNcontroL as a personality, but he really has to do something to get good. No more promises just do it!
LOL do you even know who TSL_Symbol is? If iNcontroL had beaten Symbol, it would have been perhaps the biggest upset of the day (and probably the entire event).
lol i got home last night and flicked through some of the recorded stream without checking the live reports... I didn't realize that epic Polt v Stephano game was in the open bracket!!!!
Can't tell if people are joking in this thread or not because personally I have no idea who Symbol is. Looking at his Korean TLPD he hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy.

TLPD doesn't mean anything really, it shows your W/L for the separate matchups and who you've faced against, but it doesn't show how close the games were. For example, MMA's TvP is even better than PuMa's TvP if you blindly follow TLPD.

When a foreigner plays vs a Korean, that Korean automatically becomes a "top Korean player", despite the fact that he's nowhere near Code S.

Killer is my favorite SC2 player, but Symbol has beaten people that routinely make Killer look like a scrub (e.g. Polt). I think I started noticing him when he clinched a couple of epic Korean Weeklies.
Compared to other Koreans in the tournament at large, I'd agree he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the whole thing, but I expect him to make it out of the open bracket.
I would love for SangHo to prove me wrong GOGO SANGHO!

Meh, bad performance of Stephano this week-end, losing Polt because of big mistakes and losing to Inori, a protoss he destroyed a few weeks ago, for the first time ever o_O Even if an open bracket, especially a big one like the loser, isn't what he prefers, I thought he would be able to do better.
