Is this strategy viable or is Haypro just so shocked seeing a gold float that he is panicking? It's a gamble. You straight up die to a pool first if scouted, but you have a strong advantage facing an hatch first. He anticipated that Haypro would hatch first (who doesn't in ZvT?) and it paid. The advantage vs Hatch first is not that strong to be honest. MKP probably just used the strategy because I was very sure that even if it failed he would win the 3rd game against Haypro.

Why would you die to a pool first lol? There is a nice wall-off and then you will have a decent number of marines. I think pool first is even worse... (if MKP scout it) That's true for a 14 pool, but since the most economical gasless/pool opening is the 11 overpool, it can do damage to the Terran before the rax is online.

Well, pool first is nearly NEVER used in ZvT.

The only person to ever do 11overpool to terran is Destiny, and even he stopped doing it. If you're going gasless play, hatch first is 10x better and safer (overpool can't hold the nat against proxy rax either).
