Okay we're going to start cracking down on people bashing players for no reason. You don't have to like every player, but at least show some respect. (as of page 402) |

I am really so interested to see how idra or naniwa or thorzain can do vs these koreans. my personal pick for this tournament is idra.
A lot of foreigners seem to suffer a sort of LAN anxiety. Sheth choking up against MMA was a big example of it.
Koreans have the experience of sitting in a booth for Code S and Code A on a frequent basis. Foreigners who usually end up playing most if not all tournaments from their desktop have to play against an unfamiliar style in an unfamiliar booth.

Neither is Idra's. Beating a bunch of scrub NA Zergs doesn't change that, he still loses to the good Zergs (Sen, Koreans etc). So it should be close if it happens.

As I recall that was his worst matchup. Went out in Ro64 of the Super Tournament because of ZvZ. Against Min I think.

It's ironic - most of the very high level WC3 pros - Grubby, Lyn, etc - are not doing all that great. Many of the lesser known WC3 players are doing amazing. Like others have said, it really doesn't matter too much what game you played before SC2. To be fair Grubbys pretty dam good considering how long ago he switched. Agreed, Grubby joined into sc2 waay after everyone else and he is doing amazing in the euro tourney scene, give it a little more time and grubby should be dominating everywhere else (at least i hope so )
if you ever listen to SOTG, on 1 SOTG idrA said that this is actualy BS, grubby was one of the first people who got to play beta, and was playing it for a long time.

I actually hope that foreigners step up their game up more for the next MLG and go face to face with the korean pros. Exatly why i cheer for the koreans as well I respect Naniwa though, he has the will to go to korea and mess with the best. (i don't particularly like him though)

I think its safe to say that the skills required for SC2 are different. No, none of the best BW pros have switched yet.

Lots of guys are still under performing, but players like IdrA decided to show up.

Why do you hate TT1 so much, he's a awesome player, is it because of his cheating BW days?

definitely with you on that one. we need idra to win! ever since he moved back to USA and away from GSL, he has been seeking a big time first place finish. IPL was cool but nothing like the level of play and PRESITGE that MLG Columbus will bring. I just want the Koreans to win in MLG so more Koreans will come over, and also because there are 5 Koreans versus over 200 foreigners people might not think it but the koreans are actually underdogs in this critical aspect.
My favorites to win are IdrA, MC, MMA, Moon, July, T-ZAIN!!!!!, and Losira.

Aren't all those up and coming chinese players former WC3 pros as well? yeah but that's because wc3 was huge in china WC3 is not that huge in china because of dota but it's still decent enough, I expect Infi and th000(if they switch) to do very well. isnt infi n1 in global sc2 ladder ranks?..

Yea, this is definitely true. There have been 3 nonkoreans who have held their own in code S already. Dimaga is still the only zerg to beat nestea in a series, white-ra only got knocked out due to pvp 4gating battles, thorzain beat MC when they were both in europe, sen is beastly. The Koreans aren't outright dominating. If that were true they would have steamrolled everyone 2-0. Losira is code S and dropping games. MC lost a series. Sjow took games off July and MMA. You can try and blame jetlag, but the gap isn't insurmountable.
Agreed the top foreigners can certainly compete with the Koreans. Biggest difference I think is that the Korean scene has a much deeper talent pool
