Idra lost as soon as he started the second wave of Drones, the first wave he might have gotten away with, but not the second. Sen's Roach count exploded comparatively at that point.
If Idra produced one round of Drones and then started pumping Roaches, he would have had a Drone lead, an upgrade lead and he would have more than likely held the push with defenders advantage.

I'm starting to think more and more that pool first is actually more economical than hatch first, simply because you don't need to invest in the early roaches.

Yeah, IdrA didn't do enough damage with that 2 base push

Idra was in lead after that, he had better roach upgrades and equal bases and infestors, but after that Idra overdroned.

He wasn't equal bases and he didn't have infestors after the attack failed.

Sen knew Idra was weak after that and did the sensible thing. Idra was fairly screwed whatever he tried; he was close to all in with his attack.

It was equal bases (drone transfer just hadn't happened yet), but he was a few drones ahead, and it didn't matter that he didn't have infestors right away after Idra's attack because they popped in time for Sen's attack.

What cost him the game was overdroning after his attack and horrible concave with roaches, also he continued to spread creep with overlords after droning hard making Sen's attack much quicker.

But IdrA had commonly said Sen is a great player and it's common knowledge sen has beastly ZvZ. IdrA might have been considered the favorite, but it's hardly an upset.

I'm not trying to say that Idra is far better than Sen but Idra was definitely the favorite. When the favorite loses it's called an upset.

Semantic argument maybe, but the term upset is usually only used when it's a legitimate underdog knocking out somebody, not an extremely close match where one person has a sliiiight edge.

He probably doesn't have the best record in the group.

He's 4-1 in the group too along with Idra and Sen.

in a round robin, first place is highest record and if there's a tie for highest record, first place is the winner of the two when they played each other. therefore sen > idra

I still stand behind that fully. In recent games, Idra was 17-1 (now 18-3) in ZvZ..while Sen was an unimpressive 12-7 (now 14-8). The stats don't lie, you can reference what Idra did to Sheth in their recent showmatch for further proof. Sen just had Idra's number today, whether it be from better strategy/preparation, or Idra mentally beating himself..one 2-1 series win isn't nearly enough to convince me otherwise.

Yeah really. IdrA made a big mistake with the supply block, that cost him the game there. Sen wasn't amazingly outclassing him there, if Idra didn't make that mistake (which he normally doesn't) the match is way way closer

Idra's biggest mistake was over-droning the third he went up to 73 drones to sen's 55, if he had 18 more roaches that battle would've been in his favor.

Gamble that didn't pay off =/= mistake

As InC said, he probably thought Sen was going to drone up

Idra played as solidly as one would expect except for the coin flip the first game. He made a couple of critical game losing mistakes: the second game, blowing up his banes on a roach; the third game, getting supply blocked and missing his roach timing by a hair's breadth, and then taking a huge gamble after his attack failed even though he could've played safer.

Sen's build was probably better the third game - this is what Idra was afraid of when he talked about Sen having more experience on the KR server, as that fast infestor + fast third combination makes it really hard to hit a good roach timing and even though Idra hit as soon as he was confident to do so, he lost the fight.

You're missing the point. Sure he only lost 1 ZvZ, but it was such a small sample size. Idra said himself this is the match that worried him the most. This by no means was an upset.

Idra in the foreigner scene had only played 2 top tier Zergs and that was Morrow and Sen in the GCPL, where Idra did beat Sen. Those statistics are meaningless.

15 seconds of congratulations to Sen.

You guys gotta give the credit where it's due.

Wanted to comment on this too. Like, Sen went for a fast 3rd and IdrA attacked it, but didn't do enough damage.

Game concludes, and InControl goes on about IdrA's mindset and things of that for several minutes. Completely unnecessary. This was not IdrA dropping a game to a scrub while playing terribly. He lost to Sen in a 2-1 series.

and the point is when you're playing the best of the best you're NEVER going to have a super high win rate unless you're MC/nestea. Even then nestea doesnt play the best ZvZ players in the world regularly. No player has to play that brutal of a schedule unless you're in an unusually hard group of a tournament.

Zenio 3-2 and NASL counts match difference meaning that evry game actually matters since evry game you loose give you 1 minus points its a typical system for leagues for tiebrakers

Okay, you guys are over analyzing this a little too much. I think IdrA just took a risk and hoped Sen didn't attack. Who was flaming IdrA on game 3? Ppl just agreed that he got outplayed that game.

someone said "overdroned and lost. typical idra." i could probably find a few other comments like that

People say the same for Ret. It's not really a flame; could even be just construed as disappointment.

Oh come on, IdrA got outplayed... why is any further discussion required?
The only win he took off of Sen in this series was with a 9pool spine crawler rush, fyi.
