^ so many memories...Can't wait to make new ones with sc2.
Wonder where the USA finals will be this year... They were in LA last year...
|
Really excited for this. I didn't follow BW, but heard so much about it with all the stories from Day9/Tyler/Incontrol on SotG and whatnot. Hope it lives up to the hype
|
It's worth mentioning that WCG USA is actually being done by a different organization this year called E-Sports Services but I'm unsure how that will change things if at all.
|
|
ugh, enough with scrap station in the pro map pool...
Anyways this seems pretty cool. I probably won't make it but I pretty much almost forgot about the WCG due to MLG! GL everyone

this brings back the memory's!!

It would be realllly tragic if Canada had no WCG this year... Should be really easy filling up qualifiers and getting interest, just a matter of if they have people in place who will manage things.
|
let's do this!! pretty stoked about this tourney!

ps it says that the finals will be in South Korea, they're just not 100% sure where yet in SK.

Ihope the latin american countries such as peru and so more have WCG

Rules have been changed to reflect a change in the way maps are selected.
The map on the bracket is now the first map and the loser of each map will pick the next map.
Another revision to the map list has been made

Pretty sure that's a company started by Craig Levine who was the founder of team 3D and ESEA which is still going on. WCG should be perfectly fine if that's the case.

yep, Torbull is hands-on in the forums on the USA site and I agree with you, hoping for an awesome event.
I can't imagine Canada not holding an sc2 event but WCG Canada's budget has been cut repeatedly since 2007 so we'll have to wait and see.
|
I was at the WCG finals last year in canada, in which SC2 was not an official game. We did, however, hold an SC2 tournament in the same venue at the same time kind of alongside WCG, which was LAN ETS in montreal. They seemed to show at least SOME interest in the game, and we had a lot of people turn up for the event.
I think canada could have one of the most competitive wcg qualifiers in the world, as our talent pool is quite vast.
EDIT: LuckyFool so awesome for doing this thread~

of course, now all we need are the token hackers/abusers/map riggers/drama queens, you know the type... the lastshadow's, dino's and joekim's of sc2 and we'll be set for 2011 wcg usa. ^_^

Wowow, WCG starting up again? Get hype~
|
lastshadow is on the GGNET team, so yes he does play SC2
|
WCG used to be the highlight of the year... it was something that i looked forward to every year despite all the issues it had with map selection and the amount of abuse in their ladder stage, however, this year with the TSL and NASL in full swing and GSL and more MLG nearing I can honestly say that WCG is at the bottom of the list which is a first for me.
WCG has done a lot of great things for e-sports (and a lot of not so great), but I'm hoping they have been seeing what's going on with other organizations and really try to step the bar up because I think they need to come a long way to match what we've already seen this year.
|

ROFL, someone needs to do a thread summarizing all the shenanagains that have happened throughout various WCG's over the years... I know there's been some really great ones and with all the new SC2 transplants that never played BW i think they could use a good thorough history lesson
|
Can't wait to see Starcraft2 on WCG!!

Laurent, do only 8 players or 10 players qualify for the finals?
I remember last year some extra qualifiers were added pretty late.

im debating whether or not i should attempt to qualify

Hm that would suck. I know there were lists of "replacement players" or players on waiting list, I wonder what happened to all of them or if they can sub in for no shows...
|
Won't have a no show because you're given until 11:59pm to play.
If you don't show it's a w.o hands down or at least that's how it was when inwas doing wcg from 2004-2008. Alot of changes throughout it all.

I dont see how I can get in contact with my opponent
I can't find his character code anywhere on the site? how do I navigate to get my opponent's character code?
|
if you find yourself on the bracket and click it will bring you to your matches page which should have the realid info/email of your opponent. you can also go to wcg site and click on "my matches"

U just don't know Geoff... U GOIN DOWN!
|
Forfeits, Disputes, and Support:
If your opponent does not show up within a 15 minute grace period after the original scheduled match time, you may report a forfeit win If you have wrongly been awarded a forfeit loss, you may challenge it within 2 hours of the originally scheduled match time, after which time your dispute will be discarded If both players agree to reschedule the match within 22 hours of the original match time, both teams must alert an administrator and have the reschedule approved If no match has been reported within 2 hours of the scheduled match time and no support tickets have been opened, the higher seeded player as listed on the tournament bracket will be advanced by default
|
If you and your opponent don't agree to a match time then its default - 8PM CST - if he doesnt show by 8:15 PM CST - then report a FF win for yourself - make sure to have a SS that you were on at that time.
The SC2 channel on Bnet will be "WCGUSA"
I will try to be in there during default match times in case there are questions.

this thread helps though, I bet more people will end up coming here than the actual wcg site... thats what seemed to happen back in bw days :D

Is the WCG prize pool big enough to attract a lot of progamer attention? I've seen some known names in the brackets so far.
I know it's been THE event for BW for the longest time, so I understand that it's a prestigious tournament - is the prize money good as well? Can't find anything on the site talking about the pool for SC2.
|
WCG is one of THE tournaments to win for any pro gamers career. It might not have the biggest prize pool and you might see some tournaments with higher prize money but the prestige is what counts.

Yeah...... I figured as much when I used to try to sign up for War3 nationals, those were reasonably smooth events from what I recall, but that was long ago.
So... Xeris... you got my back right?

So did WCG just not send out any sort of email notifiers/reminders about this tourney for those who signed up?
I'm pretty out of practice anyway, but in the past they sent something a few days or so before hand with the tournament information for those who signed up. Guess I actually gotta be on top of things for this.

Newsh - placed top 25 at MLG DC and Dallas (2010) for sixjax gaming. Former War3 and WoW pro, I believe he dropped off the sixjax team to focus on raid progression for his WoW guild.
Trimaster - Defeated CatZ at MLG Dallas (2011) in open bracket play but knocked out by Naniwa.

Man, I really want to play in this. I had such a great time at WCG last year, but 3-4 am Romanian time is just incredibly hard for me to manage.

It's not just one night either you have to work it out for a full week+ (now basically 2 weeks)

WCGUSA channel gogo.
bo5's all the way ?
|
My understanding is that from today till friday is a Bo5 single-elimination tournament between the top 16 US qualified players for the first qualifier spot... And there's no stream? So instead of watching exciting games (replay cast or otherwise) between the likes of Idra, Nadagast, and Kawaiirice, we have a thread slowly updating us with the results. Don't know what WCG is thinking, but they need to get with the times. So many good games missed.

Yeah I'm kind of sad, wanted to see Idra play. But I guess it helps eliminate cheating so it's all good.

stream plz ftw edit: why cant they just make delayed stream with 10 mins... it shouldnt be that hard

They can easily prevent cheating by delaying the stream or casting from replays. But they don't even release the replays. I guess in BW this helped people hide their build orders? But with BNET 2.0 you can see someone's build order from their match history. Sigh.

yeah epic PvZ going on between NrGMute and eg.idra, LOL

Thanks so much for live reporting for us, any specific details into the games itself? Are you spectating it? How did Idra lose? Why is it epic? How did Idra win the two games? What is your social security number?
Idra needs to win quick so he can start streaming btw. Needs to get 10k viewers than send them all to state of the game to get the fabled 2000.

summary of games of me vs idra (not really epic lol):
obviously idra is a pro (the best pro in NA and one of the top outside of korea for sure) and i am an amateur so i went into the games thinking I should use a combination of cheese and macro to keep things interesting.
game 1: shakuras
i go double nexus and he goes pool hatch, then hatch at 3rd base vertical, we both build shit...after a while i decided to go for the anypro build of 1-1 upgrades with gateways and 1 obs to detect burrow roaches...idra scouts most of this i think and goes enough roaches/lings to stop my attack. I try to fake taking a third base but it doesnt matter lol.
1-0 for idra
game 2: xel naga
ive seen on this map idra likes to punish 3 gate expoers so i decided to fake out 3 gate expo (cancelling nexus) and go fast dts...he goes roach ling attack without lair so my dts work.
1-1
game 3:
he chooses terminus re.. i go 3 gate expo, he takes a quick 3rd, i dont poke out enough in the beginning thinking hes making army (i made hallu to scout but it didnt do a good job) so he makes a ton of drones then scouts me with like 3 overlords to make sure no shenanigans are going on. unfortunately this map like slag pits lags like shit for me, i dont know why but something about the textures on this map and slag pits are horrible so I decide im going to do a 2 base timing attack again. I try double robo immortals to counter mass roach and idra scouts it and makes enough hydras to crush it. also im not sure if he was just messing around or what but he would drive overlords in my base and start pooping at random points ^_^ xD
game 4:
i choose shattered temple and we get close spawns. Im thinking in my head idra likes to do anti-3 gate expo on close spawns on maps like this but im thinking since i went dts before he wont do it. Well he out-mindgamed me on this one as he actually did do a punishing build and so I lose my nexus and its all down hill from there
gg
i will practice hard so hopefully i can give a better series next time and maybe actually play some macro style games

+ Show Spoiler +Kawaii and IdrA will probably meet next round which is a shame as that would have been an awesome final Yay for Strife though as well
^^thanks for the recap mute! Really appreciate it no shame in losing to IdrA
|
Strife edges out TriMaster 3-2 =(.
Maybe next time bro.
|
hey mute if you want to share the reps that would be great too! People used to do that in broodwar since wcg doesnt do any coverage of qualis.
|
Thanks a lot for the summary Mute, is a shame we couldn't seem them streamed.
|
Can someone please stream or cast Nadagast vs. IdrA?
I'm pretty sure it'll be a huge hit, Nadagast is one of the most well-known players outside of TL simply because he's a baller at any game hes ever played.
|
Strange how Nadagast never joined a team or anything, he's kept such a low profile despite being incredibly good !_!~

As of right now , we will try to stream the finals of every qualifier.
As far as replays, you will need to ask the players for them.
|
Most of the matchups tonight should be great,
Kawaii/Axslav (TVP AHHHH) Idra/Nadagast Everize/Newsh Strifecro/tqstate
Gonna say Kawaii, Idra, Everize and Strifecro will be the final four.

Question for Laurent about last chance qualis, who do we know will be in those? Will it be the top 4 from each open quali ? So guys like Axslav/State/Everize guaranteed spots in the last two qualis ? The rules are vague about this just want to clarify how those two last qualis are going to work.

was nr2 moved from 5/9 to 5/16 or?
|
Dates updated, the initial schedule was not accommodating the two week for each qualifier schedule.
|
The Last Chance qualifiers will have the top 32 from each SC2 qualifier.
So if you finished top 32 in this last qualifier you have guaranteed yourself a spot in the Last Chance Qualifier.
People who have already qualified cannot participate in any other qualifiers.

Yes because macro games are the only measure of skill.

It's more impressive because it is generally considered easier to beat Idra with cheese or risky play rather than a straight up macro game.
And in addition, having the capability to beat Idra in a straight up macro game means that he must have at least a high level of RTS skill. Having the capability to beat someone with an early game play could still be a result of luck and minimal skill.
Tricky play is more like poker. Straight up macro game is more like chess. In chess if you beat someone good you must be good. In poker if you win a hand against a pro you can still have no clue what you're doing.

He probably signed up for all of them all at once in case he didn't make it (for whatever reason) the first time. The person who plays IdrA this week gets a W/O over him.

it is for US citizens only. Im assuming he has dual citizenship with the US and KR, like the other koreans and canadians in the US qualifier. Although i really wish WCG checked eligibility before the qualifiers, so there isnt any doubt, but if they arent, they are going to knock everyone out, and then we will find out if they are eligible or not.

Considering how difficult it is to get US citizenship, I would be surprised that he was granted it as he only attended college here in the USA for a few years. Guess I will ask him if I play him as it would suck to be knocked out by someone not eligible (assuming we both win round 2, we play in the 3rd round of this qualifier).

it is for US citizens only. Guess I will ask him if I play him as it would suck to be knocked out by someone not eligible (assuming we both win round 2, we play in the 3rd round of this qualifier). the same thoughts i had about FXO moonan, i was just knocked out by him yesterday, im assuming he somehow got a US citizenship while going to college for a few years or something, which is why i didnt think about asking him =/ How difficult is it to get citizenship here? ive never really looked just heard it took a while, but not sure how long a while is... Seeing as my wife just got her US citizenship, the rules are you must possess a US immigrant visa for 5 years (green Card) then you can apply for citizenship. Unless his parents are US citizens. Then he can hold dual citizenship. The are only a few exceptions such as military service which can shorten the process to 3 years. I m hoping for them to make if all is legal, and thats for WCG to figure out. Just sucks for the people that get knocked out I wonder how they will go back.
You May Qualify for Naturalization if:
You have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements, please visit our General Path to Citizenship page for more information. You have been a permanent resident for 3 years or more and meet all eligibility requirements to file as a spouse of a U.S. citizen, please visit our For Spouses of U.S. Citizens page for more information. You have qualifying service in the U.S. armed forces and meet all other eligibility requirements. Visit the Military section of our website. Your child may qualify for naturalization if you are a U.S. citizen, the child was born outside the U.S., the child is currently residing outside the U.S., and all other eligibility requirements are met.
You may also qualify through other paths to naturalization if you do not qualify through the paths described on the links to the left. See our A Guide to Naturalization guide. Chapter 4 of the guide discusses who is eligible for Naturalization.
Note: You may already be a U.S. citizen and not need to apply for naturalization if your biological or adoptive parent(s) became a U.S. citizen before you reached the age of 18. For more information, visit our Citizenship Through Parents page.
So if he is on a student visa it would not count.
Ok just checked the forums in the WCG and Select wrote

yeah which you wont be able to prove or disprove until after the bracket is played out, since WCG only asks after the bracket is won.
But with what im reading about us citizenship its highly unlikely that he has it. The only thing you we can really do is ask him, and tell him if he isnt he cant win. thats about it.

Yeah I really don't know why WCG can't just ask Moonan, so if he isn't ,it doesn't mess up the brackets. It prolly has been done.

Why would he play again if he's already qualified? Everybody signs up for all the qualifiers before the events start, and if they already qualified then there's no reason to play in the rest of them.

actually there is, just have them play a marathon of games of people that lost to him before the round of 16. Any one that wants a second shot should be able to get it if it he isnt eligible, or it kinda invalidates the placement of the last chance qualifiers and the prestige of the US qualifier. I know i could have gone much further.
and as for people saying IdrA threw his matches... Hes Disqualified from every future qualify due to qualifying and cant play in any qualifiers at all by the rules. He signed up for every qualifier when they went live, like everyone else. which is why he appears in every qualifier.

I don't want to get into this much, but this statement leads to all sorts of trouble. The official policy then appears to be that the online qualifiers are open to those that are citizens or those that have an application in process, correct?
This can lead to trouble as these applications are not equivalent to that of applying for a passport. We are talking 12 to 18 months here for the process after one has submitted their application (source1, source2, and source3). Can you clarify WCG's policy if his citizenship does not come through in time?
ie: Does the 2nd place player from a qualifier he is in attend? Is it that all the 2nd place players from the 8 qualifiers get to do a mini-tournament to decide who goes? How much notice will these players be given (if any at all)? Or does Moonan get to the exact WCG USA finals date to get citizenship and if he fails to obtain it all of his matches are just forfeits? Or can he compete in the WCG USA finals still with his "pending" status?
It might not come into play (I hope his application goes well!), but I am curious as to the rules for this complex situation to best understand possible scenarios. This information will also be useful for qualifiers in the future. Thanks!

Typically if a player can not attend or isn't eligible the 2nd place of the quali will get the spot. If the 2nd place player qualifies in a subsequent qualifier (I know this happened last year) notifications were sent to players who made the top 4 of the quali inviting them to the finals. (Sup Zlasher)

atleast you got advanced over, as it still shows i lost round 1, since he isnt eligible now.
i still want to dispute my loss in round 1 of the qualifier with this decision.... as it screws over potential chances to make the last chance qualifiers. But its kinda silly this qualifier is all the way into the finals =/
edit: meh got a response from my support ticket, basically said bracket is played out, sorry.... Why did this take so long to determine? cause i feel its complete garbage and undermines the validity and prestige of the last chance qualifier and the qualifier itself. and why cant the matches just be replayed? thats the only fair thing to do for the players that were eliminated, and essentially cheated out of their chance to go further. and besides who fairly gets the last chance qualifier slot?
|
There are 6 more qualifiers before the Last Chance ............... its not fair to either person when theres a decision that has to be made - so therefore you let things run their course until a final decision has been made. You could have just beat him??
|
^ i enjoy this response from laurent haha

there are actually 4 qualifiers left. 1 and 2 have been played, unless WCG is sending 10 players and hasnt announced it yet?
BTW it would be nice to defeat the rank 1 ineligible player in NA. The idea is to determine the best players from the USA, not Korea. and lets just leave it at that, its one thing to make a decision and decide to forfeit him, but its another thing to advance a player that lost, and not do it for everyone that lost to him. You guys have made your decision, i told my story about how its not fair and ill respect that, no matter how much i feel it was a poor decision that ruined the integrity of that qualifier. and this is the last ill mention of it. sorry for bringing this up.
On to qualifier number 3.

worst experience ive ever had. anyone who was on for the qualifer would know that only like 30 people showed up, me being one of them. I send a ticket asking how wait listed players get added into the tournament. i get a response a day later saying too bad the qualifer is already closed.

You can play in every qualifier until you qualify.
There is no top 32 rules - who is spreading these lies.
There is no way to know whos not going to show up for their matches. Because of the schedule we can't wait to see who are no shows and then add waiting list players to replace them. Just sign up for the qualifiers in advance and you wont be on the waiting list.

This tournament has been pretty silly so far. Three things need to happen next time:
1) WCG needs to not give out our emails to everyone next time around 2) They need to email us a day before our matches, so far I have played ZERO matches in this round and will be advancing to the round of 16 because none of my 5 opponents have showed up. 3) There needs to be a more lightweight and efficient way for players to contact one another outside of game.

The entire bracket is posted with match dates and times on it. Why do you need to be emailed every time you have a match?
Did you try to contact those 5 players using pm on the site / email / or bnet?
Most players meet up in the WCGUSA Channel.
And if you are from Canada like your info says - you cant even be playing in these qualifiers
|
I honestly didn't know about the channel. I tried adding all of my opponents realID emails and none of them had accepted the request (my email is the one that would show up as being the requester). I have dual citizenship and reside in the USA.

Brackets are up - Remember this is BO5. Final spot will be filled tonight.
All matches must be played on the day they are scheduled. You cannot reschedule your match for the next day. Make sure to report your scores by midnight or you will both be forfeited.
Whoever makes it to the finals must record replays of all the final matches and upload them to the website.
GL All
Just a reminder - easiest way to find your opponent is to meet in the WCGUSA bnet channel.

Good luck at WCG! Hey man, you took a game off him. That alone is impressive. well...depends on how he did it...but if it was a stright up macro game then yeah Yes because macro games are the only measure of skill. Next up Gsp has decleared he wont wrestle his oponent, as too many people have accused him of cheesing.
I watched the game and it was pretty standard play, to me it looked Idra's problem was that he was being himself and thinking "im too awesome to lose" - at one point he suddenly spent a massive amount of money on tech and research rather than uh, you know, BUILDING UNITS, cus Zerg shouldn't do that ever cus Protoss is OP, and it cost him when he had to fight before all that tech could help him out.

1st and 2nd from the USA National Finals, If i'm not mistaken.

WCG National Finals should hopefully be announced in the next 2 weeks.
Clicking on the brackets will tell you match times and dates - I don't understand the issue finding the information.

lol matches start tomorrow not today? WTffff so confused.

The issue was that an email was sent saying that the 27th was the date of the first match, but the site and brackets say it is the 28th.
and frankly I'm still not sure which date it is but I'm guessing it's the 28th.

I'm getting owned by a guy who reports every w.o at exactly 8:15eastern time (an hour too early to boot)
He's not even attempting to play matches or show in the channel either. I opened a support ticket and had the w.o reversed last night and now he's reported over me again without trying to play me before the matches tonight and he's also already reported over the other guy.

Similar situation to LuckyFool here for my ro32 match.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/profile.php?user=MayanSc2 was supposed toplay me last night @ regularily scheduled time. I added his RealID (never accepted), was in channel and his bnet character code was invalid. I messaged him twice on WCG site to see if we could resched (had a party to go to last night) and on TL.net. He never tried to contact me, wasn't in channel and never accepted my RealID request so I waited around for him instead of heading to the party.
I reported the w.o at 8:15 and left for my party. When I got back the result had been changed to him over me... I have a ticket submitted but it hasn't been addressed yet. If anyone knows MayanWarrior or whatever he goes by now, I would still not mind playing if he can manage to get online and not just report me as being not there.
Sucks because I tried so many ways and times to get ahold of him and I end up having to do all this work to get a fair shake.

I also tried to contact you so many ways HNR sent you numerous request and none got accepted o took screen shorts at start time and end times. I submitted the ticket to fix beccause i was online.
WCG really needs to fix the way matches are played or some kind of channel everyone is suppose to meet in. It's really a pain in A$$ trying to find oppts and the wcg site has false information than trying to get a hold of an admin is so tough. People reporting false results like crazy !!! it's annoying and a waste of a time. Wasted my whole 4th of july weekend because i had to play my match against HNR that resulted in a 15min 2-0. hopefully finals bracket goes a lot smoother. because i can't keep doing this all week!

WCG meets up in channel wcgusa The only issues I feel are false reporting, lack of an admin at the channel, the lack of char code viewing on the site (because some people have full friend lists and don't get friend requests) and frankly, a lot of people don't or can't read the stuff wcg gives. All the schedules and times are on the brackets, and there's a specified channel.
|
Not having char codes on the site should be fixed. It would make it a lot easier getting in contact with someone if they never read/check the wcg site.
|
agreed char code would be best. Would make it easier to report if player was really online or not with screen shots. Just something should be done.
|
Meeting in the channel - taking a screen shot in there - whats so hard about that?
Obviously you guys didn't try hard enough to contact each other because miraculously when we forced you to play the match, you made contact and played.
|
i was and i did take screen shots. I had 4 different screen shots sent them in with the support ticket but that still wasn't good enough. Admin said we still had to play our match....
|
You both had screen shots showing the same thing - who are we to believe?
|
I know what I believe, guys that report wins with screenshots instead of replays are shady characters.

well I like how last night beat my opponent 2-0, it shows me as blade 2-0 no micro, i'm supposed to face huk. All of a sudden the results changed and now nomicro is reported 2-0 over me and now huk doesn't know what to do... Why the fuck did it change randomly -_-.
Edit: Turns out sense we played a few hours later WCG gave me the walkover, but he did a support ticket, beat him 2-0 anyway so wcg instead of waiting for us to put results just gave him the walk over. pain in the ass xD.

Hello,
I've been trying to contact Laurent, the WCG US administrator, for about 4 days now regarding the next match in the current qualifier (no. 5). According to the website - though it hasn't been updated since the last matches were played a few days ago - there's going to be a scheduling snafu regarding my players (Liquid`HuK) next match on Tuesday the 26th at 8pm CDT.*
The reason HuK is not able to play at this hour is because he's on a plane heading for Los Angeles to play the last set of these matches from American soil and attend MLG.
Laurent or any other administrator, if you see this, can you please write to me so we can get this sorted out as soon as possible. I believe it's in both of our interests to get this match played, but you haven't responded to any of my messages whether it has been in the night, day, noon, afternoon or late evening for you.
I hope to hear from you soon, so we can get this match rescheduled.

That's such a fucking joke. Not being able to get in touch with an administrator for 4 days? I know your purpose isn't to get us (the community) whining on WGC, but come on? Seriously?

I'm not sure who's side your on, but yes, it's definitely not the purpose to get everybody to hate on WCG, but an act of hope to get this resolved. The match is within 36 hours and it has to be played prior to the originally scheduled time for the bracket to work accordingly with everybody else. And this is one big, important tournament for a professional StarCraft 2 player.
I hope you understand and apologies if anybody thinks we're trying to bash WCG.
Edit: Also note this tournament takes place over a 2 week timespan and games are played on back to back days, so I think 4 days of unavailability is a lot.

What the hell, WCG? I hope this gets resolved quickly. I would hate to see HuK suffer from this.
|
It would be terrible for both parties if this was not resolved. Hope it works out.
|
Sadly this is what ESEA and ESS is all about and known for. They pride themselves in paying their admins, however at the end of the day they really don't get the job done. Contacting league admins in ESEA is the same hassle. I'm not surprised you have run into this problem with WCG.
Best of luck and hopefully WCG will notice this. I will RT HuK's post.

Wow... with all the WCG Bashing :>
Thanks to Soulcrusher - you're correct.
I am the primary Admin for Qualifier #5 for SC2, not Laurent... I'm not sure how you've been trying to contact him, and I apologize that you didn't hear back, but that is not how you need to request support. Saw on twitter this morning, and then saw the ticket. We'll get this handled.
In the future, just use the support ticket system, that way the appropriate admin gets notified, Thanks <3
|
Yes, it's done and thanks for the clarification. I've also explained you the situation in the ticket.
Thanks WCG. ;-)
|
Also sidenote - Cruising through this thread I've noticed the theme of character codes being added to the registration material... that would help facilitate communication to those with maxed friends lists. I'll forward that on to the backend wizards. Thanks for the suggestions.

Zephyr playing Huk in round of 16, I didn't know Zephyr was still active.
|
I think Zephyr is playing a bit whenever he feels like it. He's not on the roster as an active player or anything. :-) And I guess one of many progamers dreams are to go to WCG, so why not try out ^_^
|
Guys, I travel to go to events alot, there are other admins to back me up when im not around.
File support tickets if you need help, thats the best way.
On that note - I will be at MLG Anaheim

WCG website not working for anyone else? It's redirecting me to a CS clan's website.

So how long do I have to wait for the website to come back up to avoid risking a forfeit loss? I couldn't get my next opponent's information from the website before it crashed and he's not in the B.net channel.

As much fun as that website incident was... resolved.
Also, YourAd, you take 15 minutes, just get some screen shots.

Why would he report a forfeit win? That's stupid. Neither could get eachother's email addresses because the site was down.
You were supposed to play me. Any chance we can play before thursday night?
Edit: Saw you reported a forfeit win... Would still like to play as I think that's pretty lame to happen when we're in top 8. Any chance we can play our match before the next? An admin can change it if needed.

my god thats kinda bad.... posting here about not being able to get on the website to find his opponent or email then the moment he can he goes for a forfeit win... lol
Hope you guys get to play..

The website came back up and I waited until 11:20 to report the forfeit win (50 minutes after the match time when I only needed 15 minutes). But I don't have a problem with playing it rescheduled today.

Updated OP, sorry guys, MLG weekend distracted me from taking care of this. ^_^
|
Is HuK and gix played out yet?
|
|
How many players ultimately go to WCG? 1? 2?
|
USA will probably send 2 ?
|
ugh had to travel to MLG during WCG semis. Not likely that I would have beaten HuK but forfeiting that far in is certainly not ideal. WCG and GeForce need to pay attention to current SC2 events!

man i forgot my password to wcg but they never email the new password so i can reset it. I've also tried to register with 2 other email addresses but no activation emails T_T , why does wcg suck so badly for everything.
|
is this gonna start today? ;o
|
no brackets posted or anything
|
No email or bracket links that I can find. I believe the schedule has this quali starting today but it might have gotten changed.
|
HuK didn't offrace in the finals. Although there was some hardware problems at the PCBang in Anaheim, but that's no excuse though. GiX just did well.
|
OK hopefully they come up tomorrow. I'm out!
|
So we got IdrA....hope he shows good results for usa.
|
So Gix beat HuK 3-0 in straight up games?Oo How is that even possible(no disrespect to Gix, I know he is pretty good)? Replays anyone?
|
the final score was + Show Spoiler + it was one of the most intense matches i've ever played. I wish somebody would cast them
|
giX do you have replays? I would love to see those games?
|
......why the hell aren't there any brackets yet? nobody is questioning that?
wcg fail .___.
|
It's possible the schedule has changed, does the wcg site still say this quali starts on 8/8 ? (I'm on my phone too scared to try to check nightmare wcg site on phone)
|
brackets were posted on the night of the 8th - did you even check the website?
the qualifier was pushed back 2 days because of some technical issues
|
|
Why is wcg so fucked up. I can't even log in, or recieve emails that they are supposedly sending
Also rocker, thanks for being a dick (again) and reporting a win already. The email even said that we could have a day to re schedule.
|
Dangit, I forgot my WCG match . . . Did Syringe report a w.o. over me? Syringe, if you are a kind soul and read TL, could we maybe play our match? :/

I've been in the channel for 20 minutes and my opponent reported the w/o before w/o time even hit lol... sigh.
This is why it sucks playing random dudes in tourneys like this. No email, no bnet add, he isn't in the channel.. and is trying to sneak a win vs me lol.
I opened a support ticket but I thought I'd make it public here for safety.

Were you in channel 'WCG' There was a guy named 'Valkyrie' that said (around 8:15 cst) "Mr. Robinson isn't here "
This happens virtually every round for me. I'm a random and they won't even play me. They report the forfeit win, i google around till I find their character code from some random z33k tournament and then add them. Then they finally agree to play them. WCG support can take awhile sometimes.

sounds like bad luck to me, neither of your guys' fault, i blame wcg for not adding character codes to the site. -_- people just ignore the real id request and report a no show for you. i had to friggin add some guys AIM account from the site just for him to confirm he wasn't gonna play too. pretty ridiculous.

I would assume not. That's why I said I couldn't vouch after initial game start. Just wanted to give the guy a fair chance. It sounds like he got on at eight, saw you weren't on, and reported the win.
|
I'm sure they'll be willing to sort it out through support ticket, they'll make him play, and I'm willing to wait another day if you need it, so it should get done

I'm reporting in right here in the thread for NerO, I'm going to be here all day and I will 100% be on time, in the channel, waiting. I'm using this as a reference in case he doesn't show/reports me not being here since he hasn't accepted my real id yet. (of course he could just be busy, if so no problem! :D) I don't want any shenanigans though. ><

ok this is fucking bad
Maybe I was just lucky but I never had this scam where people don't even show up and just report w/o win.. but now had it happen 2 of 3 rounds in a row.
Sojourner is a joke. I have been sitting in the channel for 20 minutes from the very start and he NEVER came into the channel. I go to report the win and he ALREADY HAS wtf?
I will make a support ticket but PLEASE punish this shit.

People have been trying that for a while now.. guy named NerO did that to me, asked to reschedule twice in the same day, doesn't show up the next day while already talking to the next opponent about a reschedule. What makes it worse is he acted like he DIDN'T talk to the next game opponent and had no idea.
i just support ticketed him(took a while) and now I shall see you mr. incontrol in the top 16!

Yeah there are a number of trollers this year who are consistently doing that. Make 0 effort to try to play the game, dont show up dont post and yet report the w.o...

Yes they played. I asked agh the result but he told me he wasn't going to say. I don't talk to qxc really or know his tl acct to ask him.
If neither player will tell me (or anyone) the result we won't know the result for a while until wcg either streams the game or updates the bracket.
I don't think they ever even streamed Gix vs Huk (which is really shitty for Gix considering thats easily his biggest win in sc2 career)
|
lolol, good organization. Maybe hire some people from Liquidpedia to do the updating, WCG?
|
Last chance quali begins in 2 days, 9/7. updated OP with the bracket.
also since I spot an Agh in the bracket it's safe to assume QXC beat him in the finals of the last quali, qxc has qualified for wcg usa! Could use another protoss now to round things out race wise... We'll see, Agh has made like every top 16 so far, ^_^
edit: still no word on when/where US finals are going to be held. T_T

Good luck everyone! Hopefully the US finals are in the northeast somewhere :D, I'm hoping to go and see what's up/ see how organized WCG is

Qxc beat agh and qualified for WCG, i beat qxc in ro32 therefore I will win this qualifier and be that protoss of which you speak! >: D
Or I'll just lose ... Good luck to everyone!

I believe the final score was 3-2, so not quite as crazy as a 3-0. I think somebody told me Huk was far from 100% going into that series with no sleep right after getting off a 15 hour flight or something, could be wrong though but that might help explain it.
gix is a really good zerg player capabable of beating him regardless.

Question on the "Last Chance Qualifiers". In Qualifier #2, I made it to the RO32. You can verify this by looking up "Bluewolf" on the following bracket (note: I was top 8 for this bracket, and with 4 total brackets, that would make me top 32).
According to the news post, top 64 from any of the SC2 qualifiers should be in the Last Chance Qualifiers ( http://us.wcg.com/?page=news&id=7014 ). So - what am I missing as to why I am not included?

yeah ive played every SC2 event, currently still fighting in the last chance #1. ive qualified and played in the national finals for other games for the past 5 years, and this is a sign that WCG could be on a massive decline to where we eventually wont have one.
though i like how they waited till the qualifiers are mostly done to announce something like this. i wonder how many players actually care now. Do we even have prizes other than that pan am thing now? like cash for 1st/2nd/3rd.

Guys, there are bigger things in play here that cannot be mentioned in public.
There are alot of countries who are being forced to pull out or cancel their programs.
We did not wait to the last minute on purpose - the money got pulled at the last minute
I also have a location with systems and internet, but its not enough.

If the winners will go to WCG Pan Am, and also have the option of going to the WCG World Finals if they pay their way...
Why can't we host a LAN event for the Top 8 rather than playing it online. If it's nothing out of WCG's pocket, we can / should do it.

If you want to push forward with it , ping me and I can try to get it pushed through.

so any info on how the last chance plays out? haven't received any emails, just hoping it isn't tomorrow

do people not care about this anymore cuz of the change wcg did, or do they just not know about the last chance qualifiers. all my matches so far they haven't showed up >< really need to add character codes to the site so we can at least check if people are online.
|
Well I think a combination of factors is leading to a failing interest in wcg usa,
no official US finals, no starcraft2 usa finalist to grand finals ^biggest two things
horrible coverage of qualifiers, out of 8 qualifiers only 3 finals were streamed I believe complete disorganization/hard to contact admins, (I got msgs from so many people simply not knowing where to go or who to turn to talk to when support tickets weren't responded to quickly) bad schedules/times next to impossible to contact refs, and the best results coverage is a player run thread on TL
I could probably go on as to why people aren't showing up anymore.

Huk, if possible, I would like to speak to YOU about rescheduling.
I am not too fond of your manager.
I'm sure everyone on TeamLiquid and Reddit would love to hear the story of how you forfeited the best player in North America out of an online WCG qualifier. Really classy move.
Even though I followed the rules, I would still love to play the best player in North America.
|
the same rules apply to huk as to everyone else. If you can't make a match and make no effort to get in touch with an opponent and dont show at the scheduled time your subject to getting walkovered. its simple.
pretty comical they're trying to make you look like the bad guy for simply following rules. lol.
|
If you want to play him, then why did you submit a forfeit win? We've been emailing you all day, and you obviously received the emails because you've been replying.
You submitted the forfeit win request out of the blue, while in the middle of email communication with us.
If you want to play him, then why would you do that?

We did follow the rules. We've been in touch with Kollock from WCG pretty much every day for the past week via your website.
We contacted holynorth well before his match against HuK was due to be played. We exchanged 4-5 emails over the course of the day. I informed him that I would keep him updated on the scheduling process, and even gave him my Skype information so that he could contact me in a more immediate fashion.
He replied to our email about getting in touch on Skype by informing me that he had already forfeited HuK.
I'd say that we did pretty much the opposite of "showing no effort to get in touch with an opponent."
Edit: Also, we didn't make any attempts at all to make him "look like the bad guy." He's the one who posted this on TL.

people have been trying to get free wins vs better players in wcg for the duration of the tourney. Bit odd luckyfool that you'd read a random guys 1 post and go all jerky on the situation.
Alex did a lot more than what others have done to make a match happen in a SC2 tourney.. don't think anyone wants huk to lose because a guy won't work with him on overcoming the time difference.
|
I was not aware contact was attempted to be made before the match, the way random guy posted was like he was only contacted after the fact. If emails/msgs were sent beforehand that obviously changes everything.

Yes, you contacted me 3 and a half hours before the match, thank you for that. You said around 10 eastern, you would let me know. I waited till 11 eastern, no response. I email you asking where he is, and you say tomorrow he can play.
The rules say I am allowed to decline a reschedule request. I, respectfully, did so. I then informed you I submitted the forfeit win and a ticket, and even told you to submit at ticket as well. I have done nothing that the rules of WCG do not allow me to do.

We contacted you 3 and a half hours before the match because the entire WCG schedule has been delayed. We contacted you (HuK's potential third round opponent) before HuK's second round match was even played - and I know you know this already because I mentioned it in my very first email to you. I'd say that's pretty courteous and proactive.
Nobody in this thread has accused you of breaking the rules. In fact, if anything, you have been accused of adhering to the rules far too strictly, in an unreasonable fashion, in an obvious attempt to get a cheap win over a top player.
This all started because you came on TL trying to claim that you really wanted to play HuK, when in fact you had just attempted to get a cheap win by submitting a forfeit win ticket to WCG.
Your second post in this thread completely contradicts your first. In your first post, you claim that you'd really like to play HuK in the qualifier. In your second post, you provide a justification for your attempts to not play him via submitting a forfeit win ticket.
At least pick a stance, instead of trying to put forth two mutually exclusive arguments. Either you want to play him, or you're trying to get a forfeit win via adhering strictly to the rules.
Edit: This whole argument is fairly pointless, because WCG admins will probably rule that the match should still be played, since EG has made reasonable good faith attempts to schedule it with you.

Spoiler on latest qualified player + Show Spoiler +Congrats QXC, glad to see your training in Korea with FXo has really paid off long term.
This is really crazy btw that there will not be any live finals for WCG USA, not even support to be sent to the Grand Finals. Really glad to hear that Xeris, GTR are trying to rescue this. Hope for the best that WCG will legitimize their attempts and allow these seasoned vets with plenty of experience to take the reins.

I don't want to take any sides here, but with all respect to EG, Huk and his opponent HolyNorth - while I think its not a very good attitude to take a walkover over someone because of his time zone difference, its not his fault.
All he did was within the rules and its completely legit to take the win by walkover. I can't say how long beforehand e-mail contact was because its not transparent to me as I do not have the e-Mails or conversation logs.
In my opinion (and that is towards HolyNorth) you should play the game. I don't know how good you are but I guess you are well behind Huk in terms of skill and even though you did act within the rules, you as well should have an interest in the best players representing your country.
I do not mean to offend you, but do you think you have any shot at an offline national final (which is not yet set up as it seems) because if not, I think it would be a shame to steal a spot from a talented and great player like HuK for the experience of participating in a national final.
Curious how this will end up.

Maybe "strictly" isn't the right word to use. "Literally" is probably the word I'm looking for. Regardless of what the rules page says, WCG admins obviously have always allowed some lenience in scheduling - for all players, not just professionals, or those in Korea. Generally, if you're being really proactive and on top of it in trying to get ahold of your opponent, you're going to be allowed to play the match. The admins want people to play, not get FF wins and losses.
We were, with no exaggeration, in the middle of an email discussion about scheduling the match, when I gave him my Skype information, only to have him reply with the news that he had already forfeited HuK. I explained to him after this that I have been speaking frequently with the WCG admins, and that they had already agreed to be flexible about when the match needed to be played by, and we had at the very least another day to get the match played. He said that this didn't really matter to him, and he was still following the rules. I explained that when an admin from a tournament makes a specific ruling related to a particular situation, it usually overrules the default rulebook.

I agree with Naruto, why not just play him I mean, do you see yourself as a legitimate contender to win this qualifier? Because I think Huk would think he's a legitimate contender if not favorite for the bracket. Why not just save up the eventual blowup and just play him.
Edit: People are going to say what I just said was ironic since I took a lot of walkovers for people who didn't show up at last years WCG qualifier, but not once did I take a walkover over anybody who has ever won more than 10 games in a single season of iccup. There was one week I was matched up with Lastshadow, and without even logging in or anything I reported the win for him because I knew there was no point in me playing against him or taking away someone with top 4 potential for the qualifier. He ended up not logging on for that qualifier but later thanked me.

I said I'll play several times now. I even mentioned in the WCG ticket what time works best for me and that I was just following the rules.
He just emailed me stating that he will play the match. Let's get off of his back.

And thus... WCG Drama conclues. If this was 2008 things would be different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And by different I mean, we'd actually have a tournament and Dino would be writing EZ in pylons, and then ending up losing

Anyone willing to make a bet on the outcome of Huk v Holynorth?
Generous odds maybe...anyone?

when will the 2v2 terror of Axslav and Strifeco be playing their finals match? i'd be really interested in the results and replays or vods, but doubt they'll see the light of day.

gl holynorth, hopefully huk can make the rematch and wont miss it playing soccer

anyone know the rules regarding final match for last chance? since it was double elim does huk start up 1 game?
|
no idea, but in broodwar the guy coming from losers bracket had to win 2 bo3's whereas winners bracket player needs 1 bo3.
|
hm well its a bo5, so does having a 1 game advantage sound fair?
|
sounds fair to me. I have 0 authority on the matter though, I'm surprised there's no rules about it anywhere.
|
unless its hidden on their site there's very little info about last chance qualifiers, they don't even have the starting maps listed for final bracket D: or they just neglected to email me, which has also happened before ><
|
Okay we finished finals for last chance. What we ended up doing is having two bo5's if I won the first bo5. dunno if there should be spoilers or not but: + Show Spoiler [Results] +First bo5 I won 3-2, second I was down 1-2 and in the fourth game Huk started to lag really badly, tried to wait it out but ended up having to finish the game which I won. Due to that I decided to give him the win, as it wasn't clear who would have won if he wasn't lagging (it was really bad). i didn't want to play the last match and have who goes through decided by lag, and Huk deserves the win more.

wow darkcell pretty manner user;
thanks to all who played in wcg usa this year, not really as much fun as it was in past years for broodwar, hopefully 2012 improves and there's an actual finals...
|
anything resolved about still sending a player to the grand finals? through xeris or whoever else wants to organize it? or is it not possible?

If you don't plan on paying your way/your team doesn't plan on paying your way there is absolutely 0% reason to play aside from stopping others from going (which would suck).
WCG USA has 0 support for world finals this time around.
PS: now that I think about it there IS a reason.. they WILL send you to the pan am champ if you win which is usually in mexico.. kinda cool / crack at a fun tourney on someone elses dime.

As a matter of fact, they are going to be in Sao Paulo Brazil this year. We had WCG Qualifiers in El Salvador this year, and we get to send a rep to Brazil for the Panamerican Championship and one representative for the grand Finals in Korea . We only had qualifiers for 2 games so there wasn't much competition budget wise...

"We just tried calling you regarding the WCG USA Grand Final tournament. I just want to clear up some details which I don't think I made clear in my previous emails. As you know you will be required to pay for your own flight, lodging, food, expenses etc, but on-top of that WCG is also requiring that the USA Representative pay a mandatory $1,500 player fee just to enter the tournament. In this past this was covered by WCG USA, but since such drastic budget cuts were made, it is simply no longer possible for that to be waived. This trip is basically going to put you out something like $4,000 when all the necessary expenses are added up."
LOL.

this year wcg seems like such a troll. actually glad im just watching this unfold as opposed to participating at this stage lol. its like they are trying to fund the prize money for the finals as well with all this... i wonder how the world final is going to look this year, especially in comparison with the other SC2 stuff going on.
|
as long as huk/idra play in what they're supposed to I'll be happy.
wcg usa quite fail this year...makes me sad to see. When my playing days are over I want to apply to work for wcg usa.
|
I hate to bump this, but I get the distinct feeling that the USA Finals aren't going to be played? Or there's going to be some last minute or late "Online" finals?
WCG's main SC2 tournament should still be pretty good, and being the selfish SC2 fan I am, I'd really like to see Huk, Idra or at least someone with a USA flag competing.
Which really leads to the question: is it just a matter of convincing EG to spend 10k+ to send/enter Idra, Huk or Axslav? (And, seriously, 1.5k USD to *enter* the finals? What the hell? That means the prize pool is actually from the National Entry fees)
|
usa finals have virtually been cancelled.
|
1.5k to enter... that has to be some kind of sick joke lol
|
omg, even croatia found sponsors for wcg, it would be disaster if US player(s) won't be at wcg :/
|
Haha, what the heck? America, land of the poor. Maybe it's time for an organization who wants a lot of attention at a reasonable prize to step in and take the reigns from the incompetence of the current license-holders?
|
|
I thought that Blizzard had something against paying big bucks to enter a tournament? Or do the terms of service not apply to Kespa?
|
WCG USA is not organised by Kespa? None of the other qualifiers have asked for a participation fee.

why would kepsa have anything to do with the US qualifiers for wcg? lol.. they don't have anything to do with korean qualifiers either. ogn just happens to be the korean broadcasting partner.
