Our infrastructure is so old, and in such bad shape that they can't even deliver reliable bandwidth to a major city. Worse part is there are fiber lines all over the US that were build 10-20 years ago but remain dark because the teleco monopolies don't want to spend the money to get them active. lan dude... lan.... most games are played on lan.... honestly...

it has the lowest prize pool because a single player gets the money, if you were to look at the other games, black ops gets the shaft because the winning team gets 10,000 but they have to split it five ways, halo is on par with starcraft 2

Because believe it or not, capitalism is pretty fucking bad for technology like ISPs... Japans internet is funded and controlled by the government and it blows ours away -_-

1) Go to http://support.akamai.com/flash/index.html (can take a while to load, the Akamai support player is meant primarily for video stream debugging) 2) Copy-paste into "Enter URL to test here" following RTMP-stream url: rtmp://cp121276.live.edgefcs.net/live/estreamsq_3@49981 3) Press "Test" button on the left 4) Video starts streaming with messed up aspect ratio - go to full screen mode on the player and enjoy. You won't be seeing any advertisements either (instead you just see "Stream will resume momentarily" static screen during the commercial breaks) The stream is LQ flash-stream where the browser falls back in case you don't have Octoshape installed. It is streamed via Akamai (_the_ premier content delivery network) and they have a ton of capacity to handle live streams unlike (apparently) Octoshape. It bums me a lot that MLG haven't got their stuff together considering the huge amount of funding they received from VCs. Don't really understand their decision still to continue using Octoshape even after all the problems that have been reported to them on previous occasions - and especially use it exclusively in HQ stream. Akamai's delivery costs are considerably higher than Octoshape's, but where in earth they are planning to use all the freaking dollars they got - the live streaming from the events is in the core of their business that I don't quite understand their decision making with regards to tech choices..

It's a ridiculous mistake considering the increase in demand for SC2 and the huge amount of publicity the game has been getting. Fucking mlg... I used to be such a positive person ![]()

I guess you should be prepared for twice the traffic than you expect. You don't want to have bandwith that barely holds the expected traffic or max 150% and results in a huge disaster otherwise.
