-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We at ASCWeekly.com wanted to provide the Starcraft 2 community with a place to compete in a tournament environment - and not just for diamond players. We want players of all leagues to be able to participate in the fun. From Bronze to Diamond, players of any caliber can participate in our weekly tournaments.

We have worked hard on creating a solid environment at ASCWeekly.com to make it easy to register for the tournaments, track them, and become involved in the community. We have also put a ton of effort into setting up high definition streams so that participants can have their games casted, be they a Bronze beginner or a Diamond pro! That way, all your friends can watch and partake in your glorious victory, or shameful loss!

Note: For the time being this is an NA server event only, however if the response is good - we will be creating events for EU servers in the next several weeks, and taking it from there.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to seeing you in the tournament!

Stream info: http://ascweekly.com/live-stream/ - vods also starting to go up now! Enjoy :D

We do not have a set number of players. It is simply based on registration numbers. If we have enough to support a 64 we do 64, likewise if we have enough for a RO128 we do that! It is based on first come first serve, everyone after that is considered a backup and contacted to substitute in the order they signed up. Thanks!

Hi Foxt, thanks for your interest in the tournament!

Go to: http://ascweekly.com/registration/

choose which league league you are in (bronze/silver, gold/platinum, diamond)

I believe in your case because you created an account, it shot you to your profile page. You'll have to go back to ascweekly.com and go to the registration page again.

This is an unforseen glitch, and we'll figure out a way to circumvent it as soon as possible!

As weeks go on, I'm sure we'll be finding and smashing bugs - so we appreciate all feedback

Hey Ayame,

Very good point, I completely forgot to add that info - for right now it's NA only, however it's our first go...if we have a successful first week, then we'll be creating events for EU servers as well, and going from there.

I apologize for not being clear about that! I'll be putting it up on the site now.

I don't have any experience with tournaments, so do you know about how long it will last? I realize that there is a huge potential range if everyone 6 pools or 40min macro games, but what's a good approximation?

And are you getting all the matches casted? Or are the first couple rounds self-reported only?

Hiya Musubi,

Being our first week, it's difficult to tell how long it'll go from beginning to end - we estimate somewhere around 4 hours or so from start to finish, but that could be totally off. We'll have to wait and see, and like you said it's kind of situational.

We'll be casting as many games as we can throughout the night. But we will be casting beginning to end - who we cast in the RO16 will probably be pretty random, so there's a chance for any RO16 contender to get casted.

For those that aren't casted, as it says on our site, you submit your match results to ASCWseltsam.744, and if he isn't online you submit them to me - Sympatico.818

Hope to see you in the tournament

Thanks for hosting! Really fun time.

I'm Emporio btw.

Watching myself play and especially having a caster point out all my weakness was really helpful for my gameplay. Even though I knew my baneling control isn't the best, I was really surprised at how little I handled them. In general I was pretty surprised at how much I just threw away units in poor positions or without any goal for the attack.

I was wondering if there was anything else that you would have seen that you could tell me as a place to improve upon.

Again, thanks a lot for all of this!

Hiya Musubi,

Thanks for participating, and we're glad that the tournament did exactly what it was supposed to for a lot of players. Everyone had fun, and learned something as well. We're so happy with the turnout thus far, some great games were had in the bronze/silver division. I thought it was going to be very passive but no, you guys were all very aggressive attacking a ton - was a blast to cast!

I'd have to rewatch the vods to make any further comments on your play, after four hours straight of casting all the games kind of blended together

Yeah. Totally agree with Emporio/Musubi. Someone pointing out my flaws will help greatly to improve.

As far as the tournament goes, I expect it to be around for a while . you could tell that there was a decent amount of time put into the planing. The format is awesome, no does a 3 way split (brnz/slvr, gld/plt, diamond).. that's pretty original. as the ball gets rolling i know many more will play and help the ascw community grow as well. i just hope to not make it a habit of getting knocked out early...lol

Thank you to everyone for your awesome comments, we appreciate it! Thank you to all those who watch the live stream!

We've heard some amazing comments in chat such as: “I’ve watched the VODs of the games they casted of me, and I’ve learned at least one new thing each time I watched to improve on.” as well as “When else would gold players like us get casted? This is so much fun!” These are the kind of comments I dreamed of when we were putting together the ASCWeekly, and after all the hard work to get it setup (which was tremendously more than I thought) – it’s all coming to fruition.

Thank you to all the participants thus far, I'm so excited to cast the Diamond games tonight, and of course start the process all over next week

Also of note, we've had some contact with potential sponsors for prize pools in the next few weeks, and even some coaches offering up their services as prizes - so stay tuned guys, ASCWeekly is on the up and up :D

Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."

I really enjoyed having a tournament where I wasn't playing against a Diamond player every round no matter what. Thanks for your work Sympatico and seltsam, I look forward to working with you guys more in the future.
Anyone who has played any of the z33k tournaments, or even been dissuaded after seeing the percentage of players in it who are diamond, the ASCW tournaments are a GREAT place to get some tournament experience.

yes, for week #2 diamond and master will be the same league - however starting in week #3 we will have a seperate diamond and master bracket - meaning 4 nights of tournaments and casting every week

We've had an amazing response in terms of community support...we have taken on an extra caster, and several admins to help out - which will make 4 nights of tournaments a lot more manageable, as well as ensuring we don't just get overwhelmed...so the ASCWeekly won't go away

Just registered, that should be fun! I feel like there's a lot of bronze/silver/gold tourny and diamond master tourny, but nothing for platinum lately. This should be fun! Thanks for hosting

Guys, I'm looking at the bracket and I see a lot of people who signed up without including their character code. Please remember to add that when you sign up.

And to check in, go to the ASCWeekly chat channel. Still a lot of people who haven't been doing that. You need to be in there by 9pm EST.

Just a heads up. The challonge account you have to make to register in your tournaments doesn't work for your website login =/

can't wait for this wed. seems to have enough ppl to do with 32

@randommuch:

Yeah, there is no direct affiliation between Challonge.com and ASCWeekly.com. However, making an account on both is free, and having an account on ASCWeekly.com allows you to participate in the community portion of the site, where you can get in touch with fellow tournament participants (maybe you need some practice partners!) or with the casters, including Sympatico or me (should you have any questions or comments for us).

While an ASCWeekly.com account is by no means required to participate in the tournaments, it is encouraged to help you to stay connected to your fellow tournament go-ers! Best of luck in the Wednesday tournament.

@eragmaine: The in-game chat room ASCWeekly is where all participants must go to sign in for the tournament at 8:45pm EST. Brackets will be posted at 8:30pm EST, 30 minutes prior to the tournament's start time.

If you'd like to sign up, please do so through http://ascweekly.com/registration/.

@thurst0n. The real boxer's ID is SlayerSBoxeR and plays professionally. I would be rather surprised if SlayerSBoxeR was smurfing in the Amateur Starcraft Weekly tournaments as BoXeR. Currently there are no prizes for winning the tournament, but when there are we'll also be implementing a system whose purpose will be to prevent (or at least limit) smurf accounts.

The rules can be found at this location: http://ascweekly.com/tournament-rules-map-pool/.

The link is in the grey carousel just below the accordion banner.

To all the sign-ups for tonight:
We have enough for a 32-person bracket, but we'll continue with the 16 person bracket for now. If signups continue to be this plentiful, the format may very well change. If you signed up and don't make it into the bracket, remember that the first 16 people to have signed up will be given a spot. The rest will act as backups, though, so if there are any no-shows, you may yet have a chance to get into the actual tournament.

Not being able to directly participate doesn't mean you can't be part of the action, though! Scoot yourself on over to http://ascweekly.com/live-stream/ and watch as we stream and cast the games!

So wait a minute... you are continuing to accept signups, and have like 35 for the bronze/silver already but are only doing the first 16? That is kind of lame, and you should really close the signups if that is the case, not to mention put that in the OP. I was actually looking forward to something more my level... oh well =/

When sign ups are posted, the bracket gets posted. When the bracket gets posted, everything has to be done manually. If there are any drop-outs after we post the brackets, that's a very bad thing. The reason we don't post the brackets until later is that there are almost always dropouts, and they are always shortly before the rounds start, creating huge delays for those who are participating.

Obviously the gold/Platinum tournament is rather popular, and that means that in the future the brackets will probably be set up for a first round of 32. Registration is always open, but registering doesn't guarantee you a spot in the tournament. If you want to join the tournament, you can still sign up, but it's quite unlikely that you'll end up participating. We're sorry you can't participate next week, but we're still very new and trying to cater to a lot of people at once. We're bringing on new casters and admins to be able to handle the work load, since it was initially just two of us.

Next week the Master and Diamond leagues are being split, so a lot of our efforts are focused in that area right now. I can't give an accurate estimate on when gold/plat will be expanded, but in all likelihood it will be in week 4 or 5. For the time being, I'd recommend you sign up as soon as possible in order to help assure that you get a spot in the tournament.

We're doing our best to accomodate everyone, but in the meantime, sign up several days beforehand. The registration typically opens they day after the previous tournament concludes.

Again, keep in mind that we are a new organization and only a few people strong. We're growing a lot faster than we had anticipated and we're doing everything we can to make ASCW a pleasurable experience for everyone. Sympatico and I spend the vast majority of our free time (and a lot of time that we don't have free -- a lot of times that he and I are on Skype discussing ASCW, at least one of us is usually at work).

We're working as quickly as we can to do the best job we can. If you didn't get into this week's tournament, try registering earlier next time. And in the mean time, you can still be a part of the tournament by watching the stream or volunteering to help. We're looking for admins and officials to help the tournaments run more smoothly.

And you shouldn't worry too much about some people being disappointed about missing the first week or anything. It's always what is going to happen because people hear about it late and everything. All what matters is having good tournament and make sure people have fun and people will stick around and it'll get bigger.

I honestly don't think you should split master league and diamond, because many diamond players are stuck in Diamond, despite having a very high rating and MMR. I know a lot of diamond players (like myself ) consistently play Master League players, and feel they are qualified for master league, but haven't been promoted.

However, you are right in the respect that there is a extremely large gap between low diamond and high diamond, or even master league. Maybe put greater than 2500 Diamond/Master league in one group and less then 2500 Diamond in one group .

Thanks however, for doing this awesome tournament!

If a player registers without his character code and he is not in the in game chat channel (ASCWeekly) by 9pm, they are dropped from the tournament.

As for the rest of the questions I'm sure that brings up, all I can say is that we're working on it. The specifics of our structure is still somewhat tentative, as we're bending it to fit the situations we find ourselves in. So some of these requirements may be dropped, and new ones may be added. In the mean time, we're asking everyone to follow the structure that is currently in place, even if you feel like something might be redundant or missing. Chances are good that we know the issue and are working on it since we're working on about 10,000,000 things at once still!

@mixXanber: that's an idea that I brought to the table when I came on to the ASCW staff (which at the time was just Sympatico, a web template, and his handsome hopes and dreams), and possibly something to talk about in the future. Right now, though, we're still struggling to be able to deal with the incredibly fast pace at which the site is expanding, and we need to make sure everything we have runs smoothly before we start adding new stuff

You're right in saying that low Diamond and high Diamond might not be the same, but the other thing I'm thinking is that the issue you're talking about (master-level players stuck in diamond) will resolve itself over time. It seems like temporary, so another thing to wait for before we decide to expand the leagues even more is to see how the master league thing plays out.

I'll stick around as the tournament starts, just in case my 20th position can sneak into 16 actual players. Otherwise, I'll try again next week. The SC2NAL I participated in two weeks ago had almost 50% no-shows.

Thanks everyone for participating...honestly, this is more than I had dreamed of when we started the ASCWeekly

I apologize to those who felt left out or disappointed with the fact that we kept registrations open. As Seltsam already explained however, we did have an issue with no-shows in week #1, and therefore wanted to make sure we kept it open so people could still register and have a shot...which, worked out tonight in bronze/silver as we had to use some of those backups. If we hadn't kept registration open, we would've had people getting free passes through their rounds, which is no fun at all.

If the tournament keeps expanding at this insane rate, we'll likely expand it up to a RO32 - it just goes to show that people were really looking for this tournament, and we're glad we could be a part of it The response has been unbelievable.

Thank you everyone so far for participating, thanks to the admins who volunteer their time, and thanks everyone for watching the live stream and vods!

If you're registered for the gold/plat tournament tomorrow, you should show up even if you're not one of the top 16. We had 4 drop-outs in today's tournament, and the first 6 or 7 backups weren't around. Something like the 24th signup got into a 16 person bracket. No-shows get dropped at precisely 9pm EST.

Thanks for the heads-up, Goiflin. Better luck next week, and I hope you get your computer issues solved

Also, I just checked the bracket. We're at 74 signups. That is pretty absurd. Next week will definitely be a 32-person bracket, and if signups continue at this rate, it may move to 64 eventually. However, the more it expands, the shorter the rounds will become. Next week, round of 16 and any rounds before (round of 32, 64, etc.) will be best of 1 matches.

I know some of you have expressed frustration at the limitations imposed on the amount of people who are allowed to participated in each tournament, and all I can say is please be patient while we make sure there is enough of an infrastructure that a larger tournament doesn't break our brains.

wow good turnout. the people signing up and watching are slowly increasing ^^ best of luck to you guys and week #1 was pretty fun and cant wait until this week. I think the best part is that the casters are pretty decent and people get to be on stream and watch their own vods etc. if I was bronze/silver/gold/plat i would love something like this.

You guy should all check it out! The skill level and whatnot may not be up to par with other tournys and such, but it's really fun and people who have competed love it and people kind of get to know either other and love just watching on stream and chatting it up. It's really a lot of fun ^^ check it out =]

And prizes next week! Only for bronze/silver and gold/plat right now, though.

And larger brackets! At least for gold/plat, maybe for bronze/silver. If we have like 40+ signups in bronze/silver, we'll probably change it. But given how often it is for people to just not show up, it would be silly to do a 32 person bracket if we had barely 32 people sign up. So if we break 40 or so, we'll probably change that to a 32 person bracket, too.

Also the rules have been slightly changed and clarified. Round of 32 and 16 will be best of 1 matches, then ro8 and 4 will be best of 3 matches, then the finals will still be a best of 5.

Definitely check out the rules before you sign up, before you check in, or something. At least look at them once before you play. We don't have time to answer ALL the questions people ask, and the questions that are answered by the rules page are the first ones to get ignored. We're not trying to be rude when we do that, but the 30 minutes or so before the tournament is crunch time, and we're usually working furiously to try to get it going on time. There is simply not enough time in the day.

So please please PLEASE read the rules page!

From a players stand point I really enjoyed the bo3 for the earlier rounds, it set this tourney apart from some of the other lower league tourneys I've participated in. That said I understand it can really drag things out if you have 3 epic macro games that last half an hour each.

Still looking forward to playing in this again next week. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in to set this up!

If you get past rounds 1 and 2, it's bo3, so you're still good!

And yeah, it's mostly time constraints. We sometimes finish around 1am (last night we finished at 1:40 am) est. If the tournament moves to a 32 person bracket, we'd be up til the wee hours of the morning.

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!

Please note that the rules page has been updated!

I cannot stress enough how important it is that you read them. They are NOT just the same copy-pasted rules from every other tournament ever, and there's information in there about check in times and locations.

If anyone asks me a question that is answered on the rules page, I will be very sadface!
READ THE RULES!

Also make sure you look at the map pool. There were a couple slight modifications to the map pool, and it may be changing soon to include some non-ladder maps. This is not a promise or a guarantee, but we're currently looking at other Blizzard maps such as "Crossfire." We will not be adding any ICCup maps.

Week 2 begins Monday. That's not very much time between tournaments! Sign up ASAP to guarantee a spot. Last week we got almost 10 sign ups in the hour before we closed the signup page. Don't wait until the last minute. That's what everyone does.

Gain an edge.
Sign up early!

Btw your picture of Scrap Station for the map pool is inaccurate. The two expansion off to the sides closest to the gold expo blocked by Destructible Rocks are shown as islands. I don't know if this was an early version of the map or what. You probably want this picture.

Keep signing up! We almost have enough for a 32 person bracket! :D

Also, don't forget that next week's prize for the bronze/silver and gold/platinum divisions is TWO HOURS OF FREE COACHING!

YAYYY!!!

ALSO I want to remind everyone to check the rules page. There have been a few changes since last week, including all rounds before the quarter finals being change to bo1. rounds of 8 and 4 are bo3, finals are bo5, so those haven't changed. But ro16, 32, etc. are all bo1.

I've signed up, this will be my first tourney in the bronze/silver and I have a question about lag-outs. My computer sometimes shuts down while playing SC2, any info on what happens if it does it in a bo3 match? I highly doubt it will do it in the bo1 games considering it only does the crash after i've been playing for more than 2hours. It does take about 5mins for me to turn it back on and sign back in. If this is too much of an inconvenience I would be willing to wait for tourney matching and try to fix the issue until next weeks bronze/silver competition

Thank you for pointing that out, Mad-Mardigon. We had discussed how to deal with in-game drops before, and had apparently inadvertently neglected to add such a contingency to the rules page. The page has been updated, and rule #12 should answer your question.

If it is close to 32 people at check in I hope we can continue on with the full 32 person bracket. Maybe give the finalists of previous weekly's a bye in the first round so that more people can play!

Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."

This is such an awesome tournament. Tonight's gold/plat was my first experience with sc2 tournaments and I had a blast.

The casting really adds to the fun; you can watch your friends get pwned live.

I hope ascweekly keeps getting more popular and we can move up to ro64!

Thanks doing this guys. See yall next week.
and then, TRUMPETS!

+1

This is currently the only weekly tournament with regular diamond/masters separated so it is great to be able to enter with some hope of going relatively deep!

Really appreciate ASCweekly for keeping this giong.

Thanks! =)

we'll probably open it up to EU people first, and then if that has a good turnout open it up to the SEA servers as well! But if I'm not mistaken, SEA accounts can access the NA servers? Would that work for you?

Don't forget to read the website. The rules and the front page. Yes, it is going to take like 1 minute of your time. That's not that much so please read them. Please. Please? Come on. Please. Read the website. We didn't sit down and write out all the rules for shits and giggles.

And if you win, you get free coaching. Follow up on that cos it's cool.

I'm having so much fun with these. You guys might need more people to moderate because so many people in the chat just don't read the rules ><

Unfortunately 9PM EST is the earliest we can start. If we started any earlier the West coast players might not be able to make it home from work in time etc. - So really, this is the best compromise. Sorry it's not convenient for you!

Hellkite here First wanted to say to SleeperCells if he reads here....just watched the Vods and not tryin to take your pink protoss spot, just heard the catch phrase last week (Pretty Pink Protoss) when i first started following ASC/joined the tourny so was pink every game this week in the rare case i made it far enough to be casted it's all yours bro!

Secondly i would like to thank Seltsam for the hour of training i won from the trivia! Being shy on vent something i didn't say is i normally don't 4gate cuz i mess up the timings considerably (i tried in Ro16 last week and had 1k minerals as the 3 gateways poped and lost cuz all i had was a zealot and stalker ) and after the couching today i've won 3/4 the games i've attempted it, and basicly only loseing cuz i didn't do the build right.

Thirdly i'd like to plug here the couching as i semi did already...i only received "half-couching" due to the circumstances i got it under...and thus far its been extremely helpful, the first 3 people i 4gated on ladder i won and i went 3-2 in a PvZ against a friend i told about it just due to having a crisper opening than i did before and utilizing it

P.S. the portrait i use isn't from wins, it's from a friend ordering Blizcon for me and useing my email so i got the portrait from it

Week #6 Registration is now open!

We have a new registration / check-in system that even your grandma will be able to use. You no longer need to leave ascweekly.com to register...it's a 1-click affair to register!

Players will now be required to click a "check in" button - which will be very clear on the front page, and will be live at 8:45PM EST each night of the tournament.

Of course we remind everyone to please only register if you know you can play!

See you in the tournament :D

Don't know for sure but I think I was the first to be called "pretty pink protoss" I play as Deviistator in the bronze/silver tourneys. I haven't watched all the VOD's so I don't know if it was said any earlier. But Sympatico coined the phrase, and I don't claim any rights on the colour pink! lol

I mainly picked it because when I watched the first VOD's of myself, my Girlfriend (who is not named Sally by the way Seltsam! lol) enjoyed the way he said "pretty pink protoss." So the more people that play pink the less mad my Girlfriend will get while I'm watching some starcraft!

I was dissapointed I couldn't make the Bronze/Silver tourney last week, I was busy. I signed up for the Gold/Plat this week because I think It's good to spread the winning around. Also I've been getting matched against Gold players recently, so a promotion may be in my future!

Thanks again for hosting this tourney guys ^^
The best low league tourney out there by far!

Over 80 ppl signed up for the Gold/Plat Tourney tonight!!
Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."

You guys should really push to make the prize pool go to Masters. It is relativly easy to throw some games and get demoted to Diamond and smurf for the easy 5-10 bucks. Not saying anyone has done it, but when money is on the line people will do whatever it takes.

The only problem is it might make the Diamond tourney a little less appealing, but over all I think it will help by bringing in higher quality players, and games.

Either way I love what you guys are doing for the amature community and the site has improved a lot in the last few weeks. Keep up the good work!

Nikj:
We plan to have prizes for both, with Masters' being higher.

Should prevent that issue completely. I will likely (read: definitely) add a stipulation that no player may play in both Diamond and Masters tournaments in the same week.

And as we all know, I have a 0 tolerance policy for smurfs. If anyone does anything that even remotely suggests they're smurfing, they're gonna have a pretty bad day.

I just got promoted to Masters, can I still play in the diamond tourney until the Masters one gets up and running? This was one of my favourite tournaments to play in!

Good point, but the bracket is actually generated randomly, so it seems the Starcraft 2 tournament gods just want more mirror matchups in the ASCWeekly lol

We are super excited to be offering a Master League tournament complete with prize pool on Thursday this week! So if you are a Master Leaguer who has been turned away from us before, now is your chance to come back and win some cash! Note that the schedule has been adjusted to accomodate this change, with Bronze/Silver on Monday, Gold/Platinum on Tuesday, Diamond on Wednesday, and Master League on Thursday, so for those of you joining us again this week, be sure to update your calendar.
(The Diamond League tournament still has its 5$ prize pool as well.)

I would enter if i was able to play SC2 during the week.

My question is if i was to win the diamond tournament, would i be able to ask for training instead of the cash prize? I know diamond players are usually of high skill quality (Or they know how to 4gate. ZING), but i just feel that some diamond players (like me) are in diamond simply by luck, and need training to really unlock the full potential.

That's prolly true of masters division players as well.

That's actually not something I'd considered.

But I suppose if you wanted the hour of coaching in lieu of the $5, I would be inclined to oblige.

If you think about it, the Bronze/Gold/Silver/Platinum prize of an hour of free coaching (normally $8-$15) is actually "worth" more than the Diamond/Masters prize of $5/$10.
But of course, you can buy whatever you want with the 10 bucks you win from the Masters tournament, not just coaching.

HEy there SYmpatico, or who ever^^ Im signed up for the 11th as a bronze leaguer>.< My question is is the lower league both bronze AND silver together? Or is it bronze vs bronze and silver vs silver only? Im playing no matter if i get smashed, for the fun and experience, but id much rather play people of my skill level , a high silver would tear me up im sure. Thanx in advance...

Week #9 registration has opened! Original Post updated with new information, and links for registration!

Week #8 just wrapped up, and it was our first run at a Masters Division, which went amazingly! Awesome high level play that people absolutely loved. Thank you to everyone in all divisions that competed, we hope you all had as much fun play as we did casting/commentating/watching

See you all next week, whether you be a player, or live cast viewer :D

Hey Sympatico, and all the guys at ASCW. Thanks for putting on an awesome tourney. It's no MLG or GSL but it's a ton of fun for us newbies (lol) to show off our skills, as limited as they may be. I especially enjoyed the stream for the bronze/silver tourney, very entertaining. Keep up the awesome work, and I'm going to continue to compete in ASCW. :D

Registration numbers are simply going crazy this week, based on these numbers we might be able to support a RO128 bracket on some of the divisions! :D That would me amazing!

Don't be shy to sign up guys, nothing to lose, just enjoy some fun tournament play - and you never know, you could win something!

Ugh, hey. I've got a quick question about this tournament.

On the NA server I'm gold (from my placement games), and I never really played on this server so I stayed there. But, I do however play alot on the SEA server, and I'm a 3100 diamond player on that server.

If I were to sign up for this, I was wondering where I which one I would sign up for? (I would guess Diamond - but just wanted to be sure).

/edit: been playing for past 2 days and just got promoted to plat.
/edit: problem solved, promoted to diamond.

Hey Bjox,

Generally you must signup for the league that your in, for example you would now join up to platinum - however, I'd ask that you wait until your ladder to where you think you belong before participating. It's not really fair to anyone to smurf, but we also get a lot of "I am diamond on my other account" - and they turn out not to have another account at all hehe

Long story short is we have to follow rules pretty strictly, with this many people competing every week, we have to be careful not to give any one person preferential treatment.

Thanks!

If you guys need another commentator/caster, i am available during next week's tourney (March break, WOO) to cast. You can check out my youtube channel ( Hiicantpk ) if you need exampled of my voice/work (mostly the recent stuff, older stuff my voice quality was lower). If you don't need someone to commentate/cast, i will be entering the diamond tourney.

The brackets will always be whatever the registrations support, meaning if we have 128 people, we'll go for a 128 bracket

That being said, it is a snap decision after check-in period each night. If we have 128 registrants, but only 80 people check in, we reduce it to a RO64. This isn't set in stone of course, and we'd love to hear the community voice on whether you think offering a ton of byes to allow a few extra people to play is a worthwhile price to pay, or if how we do it currently is preferred.

Let us know

That was fun. First time I ever did any type of tournament style play.

Whoever I lost to got the fastest +1 colossus I have EVER seen. Quite a shocker when you rush cloaked EMP ghost and then see a colossus rolling down from his main base. Oh well, got to play 3 games, it was great! Looking forward to next week's. Hopefully I can sign up for the diamond one.

Totally recommend checking out the vods

It doesnt matter to me about how much money the tourny pool is what matters to me is that the format is like most tournaments and can get lower level/ amateurs to get used to how a tournament works and gain some experience

one question: do you have any plans to add user made maps every week to give a 'freshness' every tournament?

I just got promoted to Diamond today, does that mean I have to unregister from my Plat sign-up???

With 100 registrants for bronze/silver tonight we'll likely go with a RO128, unless a ton of people are no shows.

On that note, we're working on a 3-strikes your out system for no-show players. It is extremely poor sportsmanship to signup for a tournament and not play. Your not only creating a ton of extra work load for our staff, but also potentially ruining the fun of other players. There is a 1-click unregister button, which literally takes seconds out of your life to click!

I have a question for the next tournament. I'm currently in silver and my last games were against gold but lately I played a lot of FFA because I find those very funs. I don't want to register in the bronze/silver bracket and be accusing of smurphing.

I think I'm very close to be promoted.

1- I don't play enough games for my MMR to be stable.
2- Or I'm just not good enough to be in gold (more likely I think)

What the best thing to do in this situation? If I lose first or second round my question will be irrelevant but I don't want to be ban of future tournament for smurphing.

Smurfing is when a high leveled player (masters/diamond) makes another acc and keeps perfectly low rating to stay in bronze/silver. You are not smurfing as much as bordering between two leagues. If you do get promoted before the tourney, enter the gold/plat one, if not theres no problem with going in the bronze/silver one.

140 people registered across all leagues thus far. We need all of your help, telling your friends about the ASCWeekly, to help us grow more and be able to offer even bigger prizes in the future!

Make sure you guys register as soon as possible to get a spot, as the tournament brackets are created based on registration time! Though hopefully enough people show up that we don't have to cut anyone :D

Hiya WAC,

can you please use the contact form on the website? I'll get you an account setup manually, we've had this with a few other people - it's pretty strange, and we're not sure why. the 2000 or so other registrants hadn't had any problems.

Either way use the contact form and we'll get it setup for you ASAP

Broke 100 viewers yesterday. Let's hope we get more yet.

Also congrats to MikeD for taking down the Master league tournament. He's got a sream on TL (http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/aaMikeD) and actually exhibited a significant amount of skill, taking down another streamer on TL, Archon (http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Archon96). I watched a bit of MikeD's stream last night, and was quite impressed. Best of luck to both of our finalists in their attempts to hit Grandmaster's.

Yesterday was an unusually small bracket, starting with only 16 players, but made up in quality what it lacked in quantity.

One of the most fun casts yet, and I hope we see everyone back next week.

Unfortunately it is not We do want to expand to other servers, just need to get in touch with the right people in those regions that we can work with. It's definitely on the table though!

ASCWeekly #13 registration is open!

We hit record numbers on the stream in week #12, and it's awesome to see that once people discover the ascweekly, they tend to keep coming back to watch and play. Totally awesome!

See all of you in week #13!

Dang! This thing seems really cool!

...unfortunately, it's just a bit too early for me - I'm on the Pacific coast, and I'm not sure I can regularly take the time to leave the lab early enough to make a 6:00 PM tournament (including showing up a bit early to sign in. ).

The way you guys have it set up, is it rude/would it mess things up to sign up and then cancel or no-show on Monday, depending on how much work I have that day and whether I can leave work early? Do you guys get enough people showing up that you'll just replace me and go on? I'd like to try entering one of these, but it's hard know in advance whether I can be sure I'll be able to leave the lab early enough to get on SCII before 6:00, and I don't want to mess up your brackets if I do that.

...also, I just tried to register for the site, and it asked for my "starcraft username". I put in ftl, because that's my starcraft username. It told me it was too short. Should I put in ftl.796 for my character code? Or make up a new username for the site? I got the impression that it wanted the same username as my account actually had, but then it rejected that.

Hey ftl, go ahead and register with your charcode, we'll know its you, I'll try and edit it so 3 character usernames can be registered and I"ll change you afterwards.

We obviously don't really like no shows, but we already do get quite a few of them. I'd say go ahead and register, but also, you can always unregister from the tournament, so if you could try and do that, it'd be awesome

OK By the time Monday rolls around I'll know what my status is, so I'll unregister from the tournament on Monday if it won't work out.

Huge props to Sympatico, Vorapsak, Dalinbe, and Seltsam for putting on a fantastic event week in and week out.

It's great to be able to compete in a tournament format for the love and fun of the game with people of a similar skill level, and everyone should have the experience of being live casted at least once.

Afraid not.
We have rules for just about every contingency. For your question, I would refer to the following:

20) Players must be in the appropriate league at the time of playing their matches, rather than at the time of sign-up. For instance, if a player is in Silver, signs up for the Bronze/Silver tournament, then is promoted to Gold prior to the tournament start time, he is no longer eligible to participate in the Bronze/Silver tournament. He may, of course, participate in the Gold/Platinum tournament.

hey technoshaman and cryogenic

When any site gets popular, spammers tend to target you - we've had a few come to ascweekly and distribute their garbage - we've done pretty good both with our mods as well as back-end to pretty much eliminate them - unfortunately they get through the defenses though and fire off their spam.

I can assure you nothing or no one has been hacked. They simply sent you a message on the site, which in turn notifies you by email (Like team liquid does when you get a PM)

simply ignore it as you would any other spam, I've already taken care of that person and they won't be getting through again.

I apologize for the inconvenience!

If I register for the silv/bronzie group, but I get promoted before the actual event, do I still get to play in the lower division?
I hate when people compare SC2 and rochambeu. One race isn't fucking supposed to counter another one. | Protoss isn't OP. Their units on the other hand....

From the rules:
20) Players must be in the appropriate league at the time of playing their matches, rather than at the time of sign-up. For instance, if a player is in Silver, signs up for the Bronze/Silver tournament, then is promoted to Gold prior to the tournament start time, he is no longer eligible to participate in the Bronze/Silver tournament. He may, of course, participate in the Gold/Platinum tournament.

Also, thanks for putting on this tournament! I've found it to be highly competitive and a great way to improve for lower league players.

when you win, do you actually get any rewards? I've been looking around the site for about 15 minutes and haven't found any mention. Are we just playing for bragging rights or what?

Fantastic tournament series and absolutely the most fun I've had with Starcraft. These guys gave me a chance to experience what an online tournament environment is like against players of my level and I can't thank them enough. It's so different than standard play and for anyone who wants to break into the serious competitive scene, this is a great way to practice. =)

Great masters tournament last night! One suggestion though, is make all rounds best of 3 then later rounds best of 5, finals bo5 or bo7. Although its going to be a longer tournament, playing best of 1s are so nervewrecking, and I feel best of 3's atleast are much more fair.

Strife, I do agree with you - it's unfortunate that we have to make a standard map for the beginning of every round.

If you have a better format that we can use, you are more than welcome to share your ideas with us. We have changed rules, updated maps, changed casters, changed formats - all at the behest of our community. Our community is as much a part of ASCWeekly as the staff is, if you have a suggestion - let us know about it, it would be far more effective than complaining on TL about it

ASCWeekly #23 Registration is now open!

Week #22 has come and gone and we had some great times with all of you. We had an absolute ton of amazing games from all levels of play, and some great stream numbers as well! Thanks so much for playing and viewing, and of course congratulations to all of our winners!

Looks like xmShakeSAGA finally met his match after dominating the ASCWeekly for three weeks in a row! coLrsvp taking him out in the finals, of course from team Complexity Gaming – a very popular and strong North American SC2 team. We’re excited to continue to watch this story line continue to grow and develop. Will ShakeSAGA be able to reclaim his title next week? Will coLrsvp become the new dominant force in the ASCWeekly? We’re excited to find out next week and we hope you all are as well!

Congratulations to coLRyze for winning the Masters/Grandmasters tournament this week. It was really inspiring to watch his style of play and how solid he was in each match-up. I especially enjoyed the game between him and the champion of last week, coLrsvp. I'll have to take a closer look at those VODs soon. =)

Will be interesting to see of Complexity players will continue to dominate the tournament or if anyone else will step up to challenge them. Look forward to it.

Absolutely DarkenedLite! Was an amazing week and finished off with a bang with some Complexity Gaming members participating!

I'm not sure where to ask so I'll ask here. When registering, it says your Starcraft 2 Username should match exactly. Match what? My battlenet username? I tried to do that, but it asks for at least 4 characters and my battlenet username is only 3.

This is probably just a moment of idiocy on my part, but I'm completely lost on how to register correctly lol.

Hey Zar,

Please use the contact form on the website and give me your sc2 name and e-mail

it's a strange thing with our back-end that it does not allow 3 character usernames unless I manually create them. That being said we're working on moving to a new and superior back end that will give us a lot more functionality - so it'll no longer be a problem pretty soon

Looking forward to seeing you in the tournaments!

Will there be a Bronze/Silver on July 3rd? It's close to US Independence Day and that would be the only tourney I can make until August. I'd love to participate though! ^^

If my Battle.net character name was taken upon registering, and I signed up with a different name, am I still eligible?

My BNet ID is Dubstep, and I signed up with the name Dubstepp. Seemed like the best alternative.

The Bronze/Silver Tournament is tonight. Be sure to watch it as some of the games get quite interesting and the strategies are always cool to watch as lower levels have some interesting ideas.
